There were many things about his life in Asgard that Thor missed. Having now explained bits of his history to various villagers he'd met and with whom he'd become friends, he realized that the more he spoke of what his many years had been like, the more he missed the feasts and parties that were of legend amongst his people. Most were to commemorate and/or celebrate victorious battles, but others were for seasonal holidays (a leftover from the influence of the Vikings), or sometimes for no particular reason at all. There were countless roasted and/or fermented meats, cooked confections, sweet treats, and most importantly, seemingly bottomless kegs of mead and ale for as long as the Asgardians demanded their goblets be kept full.
This had put the idea into his head to pursue the possibility of creating his own mead whilst in the village. Perhaps, he thought, if he could create enough, he could invite the entirety of the village to partake in a very pared-down version of an Asgardian feast. He hadn't exactly done it himself before, but he had spoken with Sam on the network, who was always distilling her own vodka. She had advised him on how best to create the drink, and it was far simpler than Thor had imagined. The biggest hurdle, he thought, would be to accumulate enough honey to make it worthwhile.
The Inn - Foraging for Honey - Morning
Thor has heard that the creatures in and around the village are mostly unlike what even the Midgardians have experienced. There are certain similarities to what are around, but many of them are different in strange ways — like a difference of color, or strange abilities that don't quite make sense. Because of this, Thor goes to the Inn and, standing in the main area on the ground floor, makes a request:
"For all of those who may be interested! I have decided to try and venture forth to gather honey from the local bees. Given that I am not of Earth and am unfamiliar with how best to attempt this, anyone with any insight would be much appreciated! I would also be very happy to reward anyone who wishes to come with me on this adventure with promises of mead, to be made in future once enough honey has been acquired! If you are interested, please come see me! I wish to leave as soon as possible!"
The Inn - Creating the Mead
Once enough honey and honey comb has been collected, Thor is set on creating the mead. He gets to work as soon as he's back at the Inn, intent on utilizing what he can that's there and in the communal stores, then lugging it back to the cabin he shares with his brother so that he can keep an eye on it as it ferments and develops.
He's sought out Ubbe's assistance, whose life as a Viking lends itself to the perfect production of mead with limited supplies. Thor knows that more recent developments on Midgard have brought about modern inventions and ways of creating the "best" versions of the drink, but that's not the kind that he's after (even if those modern tools were available to them). No, Thor wants the most tried-and-tested, the most ancient of recipes — and where Thor's memories from over 1,000 years ago sometimes fail him, Ubbe's are recent and sharp.
Thor's set up "shop" near the otherwise empty bar (aside from Sam's vodka that he knows she distills). He's created his own fermenting barrels, partially in thanks to his growing skills at the Forge for the creation of the metal hoops. The method itself is simple: combine the honey, chopped-up honeycomb, and water into a container, stir with a stick (a "magic" stick, according to the Vikings, would've been best), and let sit for upwards of three months, ideally six or more for maximum fermentation (and therefore, drunkenness).
Anyone around may assist with this endeavor, as there's a massive collection of honey to be poured, honeycomb to be chopped and added, as well as all the water that they need to get.
[OOC: FYI, the title for this is taken from Eivør's hauntingly beautiful song, "Trøllabundin."]
