That's when he turns his naked vulnerability on her, eyes full to the brim with it. It's why he can't admit how he feels about Jessica, Kamala is a little easier if only because she's a kid and he knows he could easily crush her if she thought he didn't care. Even with the adults here, though, even with Natasha... he's always holding a part of himself back, terrified that the moment he really loves someone they'll be snatched away from him.
