Muneeba would be inclined to agree if she were here given the borderline supernatural premonition both she and her mother had while pregnant. Kamala doesn't argue it either. She nods like he's given her some insight she missed before. I know you replays clearly in Kamala's head as her shoulders slump. She looks down at her boots in shame. "I always thought she wouldn't get it; that I was just playing some dress up game and didn't get how serious it was. I thought she'd make me stop. I used to get mad at her for such dumb stuff because I thought she didn't get me at all."

Kamala finally works up the nerve to look Frank in the eye. Her eyes are wet with new tears. "Does that make me a bad daughter?" She'd been so unkind even while her mother forgave her for constantly lying to her face.

[oorah]

"Come on," he whispers, somehow sounding charmed and annoyed at the same time. His hand smooths over her curls for a minute before drawing away. He's keeping his distance more than usual, as she's sure to notice, but that doesn't mean he'll let her get away with putting herself down. "There's no such thing, lady. That woman loves you with all she's got. You know why? 'Cause you're her little girl. Doesn't matter if you're a shit or not."

And then, because Kamala is Kamala, he makes sure to clarify: "You're not. A shit. At least, not anymore than any other teenager. Probably a lot less, even."

Kamala, eternally clingy child, does pick up on it. She doesn't bring it up immediately since that is reassuring. They have some other things to focus on right now. "Okay, but maybe I'll actually do my chores for free or something when I get back. I feel like I owe her for putting up with all this drama." Reassured she will try to suck less when she comes back, Kamala claps her hands together. There is something here they should definitely get excited about. "By the way, you know what this means, right?"

Um, wait, should he? He has whiplash again. "No clue."

[morphogenia]

Kamala grins big. She's actually really excited to share this. It's the first time she's had any sign other than suddenly having access to the powers given to them and the bunker reveal that things are really changing. "I don't remember this ever happening! That means we have to go home in order for this to even take place!" She leans forward to grab onto the fabric of his clothing and bounces a little on her feet. "We're going home! It's part of our timeline now!"

[oorah]

He finds a smile tugging at the corner of his lips despite himself.

"Oh, is that what that means?"

She shakes the fabric bunched up in her hands even harder. Follow along, Horror BFF!! "Yes! That's what it means! Ugh! We have to get you more sci-fi movies when we get back!" Kamala lets go so she can put her hands onto her hips. She's onto Frank!!! "I bet you know it too! Stop teasing me and start thinking about all the cool stuff we're going to do when we get back. Also remember to not let that one kid murder whoever is holding us here. He's like really down with dismembering bad people. It kind of worries me."

[oorah]

"I... okay. Maybe I'm not the best No-Murder posterchild you could find, though." He's in rare form today. "What kid is this anyway?" 👀👀📝

"Okay point taken, but I think you'd be nice enough not to let someone dismember our captors in front of me so you get the job." Kamala huffs like this is all super offensive to her. "And his name is Fern. He's the one who looks like he'd be Alec's son because he's made of plants until you remember that's kind of offensive to plant people."

[oorah]

"I've never met him." Which kind of... bewilders him a moment, honestly. A kid showed up and he wasn't tripping over himself to do something about it?? This is either progress or he's been seriously distracted, probably both. "I'm sure you're doin' a good job keeping an eye on him, Kamala." He crouches down to be closer to her eye-level before going on. "Look, I know you... got used to me doing a lot of stuff for you in Reims. But we talked about this, right? If you need me to step in, I for sure will, don't misunderstand me. But give yourself some credit. Obviously, your Ammi does."

[morphogenia]

"Seriously?" Kamala asks because it is hard to believe. He always seems to know every kid. Maybe this is progress? They did talk about this. She did agree. That doesn't make her any less scared to step up when a strange boy is involved.

Kamala sighs deeply as she realizes she needs to get over it. She is capable. He did listen to her at the party. She can't spend her life running to Frank whenever she's worried she won't be enough. "You're right. I get so nervous I'll mess it up that I forget I've dealt with crazier stuff." Her expression softens as it starts to hit home just how right Frank is. Her mother hasn't doubted her for a second, has she? "I have such a great Ammi."

He shrugs. Apparently!!! But when she gets to the end he just grins and grabs her shoulder to pull her into a sideways hug. "Yeah, kid, you do."
