[MINGLE] Harvest Feast 🍂

WHERE: 6I Inn
WHEN: 10 November, all day
OPEN TO: ALL - MINGLE POST
NOTE: Details can be found here.

In the wee hours of November 10th, before even the earliest risers have roused themselves for another day, items begin to appear in the front room of the Inn. Decorations first — Boughs of autumn leaves in their reds and golds, wreaths of dried flowers and silken ribbon, flickering candles among the goards and berries and acorns. The food arrives next, the decadent aroma slipping up the Inn stairs to tempt those lingering in bed — Every imaginable harvest time delicacy, from roast turkey and ham to smoked salmon and oysters; fresh, soft bread warm from the oven to plum pudding and ice cream. And did we mention pie?

Once again, it's time for a feast. The bar is stocked, the coffee is brewed and the tables are groaning with food. Indulge, there's more than enough for everyone — That is, if you don't lose your appetite worrying about what it will all cost.

Clary was enjoying her fifth cup of coffee when she spotted Claire looking very skeptical. She didn't blame her, more so after the invisible ghost thing they had to deal with a few weeks before.

She stepped up to the other woman, her head tilted curiously to the side. She was dressed in the clothes she had slept in, complete with socks, but didn't looked too concerned about it. The runes burned into her shoulders, neck and stomach were visible though they looked more like tattoos than burn marks.

"Hey." She flashed a brief smile. "Worried that it's poisoned or something?"

Looking up, she gave Clary a guilty look. "Is that bad to think given what's happened since I got here only a few months ago?" Claire asked with another question. It was kind of hard not to and she was sure she wasn't the only one wondering it either.

But the smells were also getting to her, too, making her stomach growl noisily.

"It looks really good though. Have you had anything? Any weird feelings afterwards?"

"I have and I feel perfectly normal." She watched the other woman closely before offering her 2 cents. "You know if they wanted to kill us they've proven that they can do that at any time. I'm fairly sure our invisible act was because of them. So I don't see why they'd bother to poison our food."

It wasn't logical to poison their food when they didn't need the food to kill them.

"I tried some of the pie, the coffee of course and the fruit over at the end of the table." She has yet to try the meat or some of the other things on her to-eat list.

"Well," Claire began, brows shooting up a little defensively. "It's not being killed I'm worried about. There's a reason not many have. It's the possibility of other things happening."

Given she was alerted to plagues, thunder strikes and other uncomfortable things happening eating the spread before them might bring on symptoms of some crazy sort. They had to be prepared for that and if they weren't, they were fools.

"I don't think that any other happenings happened because of a feast like this." Try saying that five times fast. "Mark says this is usual for this time of year." She rolled her shoulders in a shrug. "Sort of like the Thanksgiving of the Salem Witch Trials." That was an unpleasant image and Clary quickly pushed it away to focus on the rich cup of coffee in her hand. She was drinking it straight, if only to experience more of the delicious caffeine as it seeped into her system.

"You have a point though." Clary hadn't been cautious. It has been months and she missed the simple pleasures that she had taken for granted in New York. "The coffee is safe."

She didn't feel weird or sick. If anything she was feeling more comfortable than she had in the last few weeks. "I don't think this world makes a whole lot of sense." She looked sideways at Claire. "Or our hosts. It's like one minute they like us and then another they don't. It's weird." Clary didn't know what to think. They were needed her for some reason. At first, she thought her father was behind this but now she wasn't so sure. He didn't have this kind of power.
theluckygirl: (▲ wtf are you saying)

[personal profile] theluckygirl 2017-11-16 03:52 pm (UTC)(link)
"Believing that would be easier if others weren't just as suspicious." Claire said, but in a way that she surrendered to the possibility that something may not happen at all. But being cautious wasn't a bad thing to be when happenings happened without food suddenly appearing.

But that coffee Clary was drinking definitely smelled amazing so Claire stepped the few steps over to collect a cup. Glancing over her shoulder she lifted a shoulder into a conceding shrug.

After putting a bit of sugar in, she turned and while stirring, thought about what Clary was saying. Something she thought, too, beyond other weird things.

Like, "Or the intense feeling like we're being watched. That's the one that weirds me out the most. I mean there had to be someone. You don't make three people vanish completely and then put out clues and not check in to see if their following them."

This didn't feel anything like the Hand, but the same kind of feeling that someone was watching definitely was.

Clary nodded. "I don't think it's the being watched thing that bothers me as much as the how they are watching us." She glanced around them as if she was expecting someone to jump from the shadows.

When nothing happened she grabbed a piece of chocolate from the table and began to alternate between nibbling, drinking and talking.

"It's like some sort of magic or something but there aren't any cameras or any way to track us. Unless they but a tracker in us." Which was an uncomfortable thought. "But there is no electricity except in those weird pod places that we keep finding. Which, I am pretty sure after this last time that they're letting us find them."

She licked her fingers before nodding her head briskly. "Chocolate is safe."
theluckygirl: (▲ what do you mean)

Claire's brow furrowed and she gave Clary a 'now why did you have to say that?' look before turning her focus back to the room. Not that she expected to find the confirmation of that 'tracker' idea on the faces of any there, but it was still an unconscious thing to do.

"I just came from similar stuff back home. It was underground weird, like if you stumbled on something you shouldn't be knowing, you really had to watch your back. That's sort of what this feels like." Claire told Clary, her face uneasy when she brought her gaze back again to look at the woman she was standing with.

It was a bit much, and a puzzle neither of them were likely going to finish any time soon. Frustrated, Claire reached over and grabbed a piece of chocolate.

"Does anyone know anything about the history of this place?"
babyhunter: (Bad Surprise)

[personal profile] babyhunter 2017-11-21 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
"A bit. From what I could find." Clary had been very lucky. When she first arrived, Isabelle had already been in the village and the other Shadowhunter had given Clary a run down of everything that they knew about the village and the separate events that have occurred in the village.

"Considering that there is another abandoned town across the canyon wall, I'm thinking that this isn't the first time that whoever is doing this has... done this." She hadn't meant for that sentence to sound so weird. Whatever. Clary was moving on as she popped another piece of chocolate in her mouth. "I think that whoever has brought us here is letting us find things which means that we only know what they want us to know."

She paused and looked over at Claire as she licked the pads of her pointer finger. "I'm more curious in what they don't want us to know."
theluckygirl: (▲ thinking it through)

[personal profile] theluckygirl 2017-11-29 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah," Claire said, her expression far away while she thought about what Clary had said. It made sense to her, and going through the things she did back in New York before coming to the village. The level of corrupt cops, shady hospital board trustees who could cover things up for the sake of keeping everything under lock and key. It was sinister and frustrating and now she understood completely why Matt, Jessica, Luke and Danny did what they did.

Her eyes drifted back over to the young woman she was standing beside and almost forgetting she was holding the piece of chocolate, Claire paused before popping it into her mouth.

"That makes the two of us. But you know, there's a saying about details create the big picture. All this -- everything that's happened might be enough to figure it out."

"Yeah."

Her thoughts drifted to her father. "It's like they're trying to raise an army." That's what her father had wanted to do with the Mortal cup, create an army of Shadowhunters. She had no idea what he'd do with them. Fight demons? That's what he had said but Clary didn't believe her. If they were being trained as fighters or warriors then why? What were they supposed to face?

It would all be for the sake of survival.

Clary forgot about the feast and the food, lost within the dark twist and turns of her thoughts.
