It's been a strange, rough couple of months for our intrepid villagers — Bunkers, superpowers and clones, oh my! Perhaps the Observers are sympathetic to their plight, or maybe they just have a peculiar sense of humor. At any rate, they've set up a gathering space chalk full of summer camp goodness, no strings attached. Not that anyone knows that part.

Just before sunset, a cheery message pops up on wrist devices all across the settlement and beyond. The instructions seem simple enough, although one does have to wonder at what dubious gift awaits them all after everything is said and done.

Marshmallows are on the house, so grab yourself a stick, strap on a sash and get to roasting, villagers. Skinny dipping, sing-alongs and friendship bracelets optional.

"I think her namesake would approve," he says, and returns the grin, tentatively holding a finger out to rub under the kitten's chin, if she'll allow it. He's much better with dogs, but any animal companionship is a good thing, especially in a place like this.

"Back in Wonderland, I had this friend, Jon - good kid, but he had sixteen dogs to take care of. I used to help him take 'em out on walks. You don't do that sort of thing with cats, right?"

She snorts, and the cat raises her chin to give Jason direction as to where precisely she would like him to rub, thanks.

"I have no idea. I leave the window open a crack and make sure I have a rabbit ready for her, and she does whatever the hell she wants."

"Sounds like a pretty good life," he says, slowly and gently dragging the side of his finger along the underside of the kitten's jaw. She's much smaller than any of Jon's dogs, but knowing cats, she'd probably give them all a pretty good run for the money anyway. "Do what you want, show up when you want, and you still get fed." He laughs quietly. "What more could you ask for?"

"Right? Live it up, you weird bird thing." She pets the cat gently, because she's learned that Selina does not stand for anything so undignified as patting. Selina begins to purr, though she continues to watch Jason with a healthy distrust.

"Oh yeah, I think she probably secretes something or other? Whatever it is, it helps me sleep." Just a heads up, since they are now both petting the endorphin releasing creature. She smiles, cheered significantly by the act of petting a cat even before the 'afterglow' feeling has time to set in.

"Yeah?" Jason senses the cat's wariness and knows better than to push his luck, so he leaves the petting to Steph. It's nice to see her smile, though - she's seen and experienced enough terrible things, and in Jason's opinion, she definitely deserves a break.

"Does that mean I'm gonna be seeing less of you coming over in the middle of the night?" He enjoys her visits, but if she's able to sleep better, that's even more ideal. Jason's used to not sleeping, and has been since he was a kid, but he knows not everyone is like that.

"I can only hope," she confirms with a shrug. Her normal sleeping habits aren't exactly normal, but she does like to get some continuous sleep when she has the chance.

"It does seem like I'm having less nightmares lately."
