This morning, our intrepid villagers awoke to a surprise of the nicer kind: A bundle of clothing left at the foot of their bed, tied with a bow. There is also a note: Put on your new outfit and join the festivities in the corn field next to the inn.
You may be thinking, what corn field next to the inn? The one that sprung up fully-mature overnight, of course.
In the middle of the field, villagers will find an autumn feast: Tables piled with harvest time food and drink, warm and rustic decorations, the day's sunshine fending off any chill in the air.
Tuck in and enjoy, villagers, but take note: Things often look different in the dark, and you might be one of them.
Jake Jensen
He's not letting it slow him down, even if he's worried he's never getting his neon pink Petunias hoodie back again, and he's trying to enjoy himself. A few drinks. Definitely a lot of food. Seeking out those he knows, mostly to see how they ended up dressed.
Of course, he has a bad habit of turning to quick, hitting people with his bow or cape. "Oops. Whoa. Sorry. Not used to... space issues with my clothes." Not that he thinks to put the bow down.
Costume Part 2
Later on in the party, if people see Jake there's a good chance he is not as they remember. He's definitely gone from the hunter to the hunted, not sure he's as comfortable without the cape and all to remove the stark lines of what is a clingy bodysuit. A soft and comfy bodysuit, but one nonetheless.
He's had a bit more to drink, and he's kind of dopey and in a pretty good mood, and has gotten to that point of drunk of complimenting everyone.
"That is the cutest thing. Awwwww. So awesome. You look perfect."
He may or may not be right.
[ Part 2 ]
At the outpouring of compliments, Ty had to laugh, patting Jake's shoulder. And leaning forward slightly, because maybe he had a little bit more than he should have, but hey, who knew when they were next going to get this opportunity?
"I bet you say that to all the guys. How are you holding up buddy?"
no subject
"I am completely and totally wasted," he admits, as if that is not entirely obvious. "So I am doing great. Even if I'm a deer and not a hunter," he adds, snickering at that. "Cougar was not impressed with being prey and got me to trade him. But what's more important is... How are you?"
no subject
"Really? I never would have guessed." Ty laughed, giving Jake a fond pat on the chest as he tried to straighten them both up. "And let's be honest, you're more of the deer in that relationship. Your friend's pretty intense." Not like it was a bad thing, and Cougar seemed like a pretty cool guy.
The question made Ty frown, and he glanced around as if to make sure no one was paying attention. "If I can be honest? I just found out about the lists and it's a lot."
Just admitting that felt like saying too much, and he didn't want to ruin Jake's buzz, so instead he started steering them back towards the tables to grab another drink.
no subject
He lights up then, smiling widely as he leans in to Ty, whispering loudly to him. "What do you think? Isn't he beautiful?"
But then Ty made that admission about the lists and he goes still. "Oh. Oh Ty. Oh shit, man. I thought you knew," he admits, frowning deeply then. "Shit I've been over those so much. Cougar's name was on there, and mine too. A couple of times. You okay?"
no subject
When Jake went still, Ty groaned out loud, annoyed he'd admitted to anything, especially since it had burst Jake's bubble. "This is a conversation we can have tomorrow, when we are sober." Ty said, grabbing a drink and handing it to Jake, before grabbing one for himself.
"Instead I would rather listen to you wax poetic about your boyfriend. You confess to him yet?"
no subject
"I could spend hours describing him, but then it would be obvious I've spent hours staring at him and I really did think it was not at all obvious except maybe to you."
Which he accepts because Ty is cool and becoming a good friend and so no worries.
"Okay, one? We can have it now. I just shoulda been a better friend," he says, taking a drink, not willing to be sober yet. Especially as he blushes suddenly.
"I kinda told him. If by... kinda you mean grabbed him and kissed him like I was dying then, yep, told him."
no subject
He waved a hand at Jake's insinuation that he should have been a better friend, holding up a finger as he drained his drink in one go. "You're a good friend." He said meaningfully. "It's just a lot being here you know? What do you think about the lists?"
Maybe he was overreacting in seeing Kira's name all over them, since Jake didn't seem too upset about his and Cougar's being there. Though maybe he had better things to hold onto nowadays.
Ty let out a loud whoop, laughing as he slapped Jake on the back. "Are you serious? Congratulations! Tell me he reciprocated."
no subject
"People talk about their friends, and I was looking for my unit. That's all it was to most," he points out, knowing that it's not the truth but not caring. Not with Cougar there and what's just happened.
He makes a bit of a face. "There's a lot of ideas about it. Most are not made for being drunk, and definitely not made for drinking." Because it's creepy and weird.
And glad not to delve into it unless he has to. He hasn't talked about it a lot, and it's pretty in depth and deep. So glad to focus instead on Cougar. "Yeah, we... We're a thing now, I guess but... Oh. My. God. He admitted to me he's been cockblocking me for years because he was like into me and ... He totally so screwed me over on girls," he says, sounding much too excited and happy about that for a guy that has spent years pretty much cut off because of the man he's into.
no subject
"You're not mad that this whole time you two could have been a thing?" He teased, but it seemed like Jake wasn't the kind to hold a grudge, and if he did, it clearly wasn't for long. "Did you even put him in the dog house over it for even five minutes?"
no subject
"I get where we couldn't though. Still were army, and..." And despite their beads and long hair, some regulations no one would overlook. "And nope. Not even a minute. You've seen him. Would you?"
no subject
"You have a point, and a very good one. I'm happy for you." Ty said, ruffling his hair obnoxiously. "I would say tell him to treat you right or else I'll come after him, but I'm pretty sure he could break me in half without a second thought."
no subject
"You'd never see it coming, and it would be over before you knew it. I'm telling him you said it though."
no subject
But he groaned at the mention of Jake telling him, moving to cover his mouth. "Don't be one of those annoying couples who tells each other everything. Or at least keep it mum until after we do our card night. I need to be able to bluff a little."
no subject
"Fine. I guess I can buy you that time. Until the poker game."
no subject
"Okay, until the poker game."
Part 2
Her clothes had started as a pair of comfortable shorts and a hoodie but as soon as the hour struck everything changes.
Kat was wearing a beautiful white dress with large frustrating angel wings popping out of her back. She sighed but kept an eye at the other costumes. It didn't look like everyone had changed, only a few people.
Her head turned when someone spoke to her and her eyebrows rose into a delicate arc. "Thank you." She paused and eyed his attire. "You're very cute too."
no subject
"But you... That is so cool. I mean, the wings are amazing." He glances around. "Is there like a devil that goes with it?" Not that he's sure he wants to see the costume that goes with those wings. "You really do look like an angel though. Really."
no subject
Her lips formed into a light smile though it didn't quite reach her eyes.
"Are you alright? You look like you're going to fall over."
