This morning, our intrepid villagers awoke to a surprise of the nicer kind: A bundle of clothing left at the foot of their bed, tied with a bow. There is also a note: Put on your new outfit and join the festivities in the corn field next to the inn.

You may be thinking, what corn field next to the inn? The one that sprung up fully-mature overnight, of course.

In the middle of the field, villagers will find an autumn feast: Tables piled with harvest time food and drink, warm and rustic decorations, the day's sunshine fending off any chill in the air.

Tuck in and enjoy, villagers, but take note: Things often look different in the dark, and you might be one of them.

"'Cougars' seems so wrong of a description right now but I see what you mean." Ty said, unable to help himself as he grinned back, Jake's good mood infectious and uplifting. It didn't help that he was such a good sport about teasing, and Ty had to laugh that Jake hadn't thought he was being obvious. "In what world were you subtle? When we first met you couldn't stop talking about him. How many other people in the village did you pull that with?"

He waved a hand at Jake's insinuation that he should have been a better friend, holding up a finger as he drained his drink in one go. "You're a good friend." He said meaningfully. "It's just a lot being here you know? What do you think about the lists?"

Maybe he was overreacting in seeing Kira's name all over them, since Jake didn't seem too upset about his and Cougar's being there. Though maybe he had better things to hold onto nowadays.

Ty let out a loud whoop, laughing as he slapped Jake on the back. "Are you serious? Congratulations! Tell me he reciprocated."

Jake has spent his life being teased but there is a difference when it comes from a friend. He hasn't experienced it a lot in his life but enough to enjoy it. So this is definitely leaving him happy and content, and really drunk. He is way beyond drunk, and loving it.

"People talk about their friends, and I was looking for my unit. That's all it was to most," he points out, knowing that it's not the truth but not caring. Not with Cougar there and what's just happened.

He makes a bit of a face. "There's a lot of ideas about it. Most are not made for being drunk, and definitely not made for drinking." Because it's creepy and weird.

And glad not to delve into it unless he has to. He hasn't talked about it a lot, and it's pretty in depth and deep. So glad to focus instead on Cougar. "Yeah, we... We're a thing now, I guess but... Oh. My. God. He admitted to me he's been cockblocking me for years because he was like into me and ... He totally so screwed me over on girls," he says, sounding much too excited and happy about that for a guy that has spent years pretty much cut off because of the man he's into.

Ty shot Jake a look that clearly said that he didn't believe anyone had thought that Cougar and him were 'just friends' even for a minute. And while he could believe that Cougar had been subtly possessive for years, just remembering the look he had shot Ty when he had even joked about seeing Jake naked was enough to make him shake his head, he had to laugh at how happy Jake seemed about it.

"You're not mad that this whole time you two could have been a thing?" He teased, but it seemed like Jake wasn't the kind to hold a grudge, and if he did, it clearly wasn't for long. "Did you even put him in the dog house over it for even five minutes?"

As a man that has spent years now translating Cougar's look, Jake actually looks shocked at that expression he gets. "Hey, I really thought I was being subtle, and he totally has been." And really until about half an hour before, they had been just friends. But neither had been subtle. Not at all.

"I get where we couldn't though. Still were army, and..." And despite their beads and long hair, some regulations no one would overlook. "And nope. Not even a minute. You've seen him. Would you?"

So long as Jake was happy with his admittedly hot boyfriend, Ty was going to be happy for him, laughing at the question. The rest of it, he supposed, made sense, and it was easier to let that fall to the wayside and focus on the good that had come out of this place instead.

"You have a point, and a very good one. I'm happy for you." Ty said, ruffling his hair obnoxiously. "I would say tell him to treat you right or else I'll come after him, but I'm pretty sure he could break me in half without a second thought."

Jake laughs, ducking his head and really not sure he could be in a place to be upset. Not with how Cougar kissed him, how he'd looked at Jake away as he'd headed back to the party. Of course, that statement only makes him laugh more, not cruelly but almost snickering as he waggles his hand back and forth.

"You'd never see it coming, and it would be over before you knew it. I'm telling him you said it though."

"Have some faith in me!" Ty complained, hand over his heart as if he'd been wounded, though he couldn't help but grin anyway. It was good to see someone here who was enjoying themselves, silly costume and all.

But he groaned at the mention of Jake telling him, moving to cover his mouth. "Don't be one of those annoying couples who tells each other everything. Or at least keep it mum until after we do our card night. I need to be able to bluff a little."

"Do you even know me? Is it even possible for me to keep anything to myself?" Okay, he's kind of not kidding given how much he talks. Even if he's kept a lot about the unit and what they've done secret. This though? Likely not.

"Fine. I guess I can buy you that time. Until the poker game."

"You're right, I can't expect that much from you." Ty agreed begrudgingly, sighing a bit melodramatically. But it didn't seem to bother him too long, considering he just go them another round, raising his cup to clink with Jake's with a grin.

"Okay, until the poker game."
