[MINGLE] PLOT: Down the Tubes: Alarm

WHERE: The bunker & elsewhere
WHEN: 1 September 2018
OPEN TO: ALL - MINGLE
WARNINGS: Please warn on threads
NOTES: Plot Details | Bunker Details | Bunker Map & Key
Threads may take place ANYTIME during the plot, including before, during and after the tubes have been opened, just please do not godmod tube arrivals without explicit permission. Related threads not in the bunker are welcomed, as are general bunker exploration/reaction threads that have nothing to do with the arrivals. Please reference the bunker key doc for what is and isn't available to explore at present.

Deep under the mountain, tucked away in the newly-discovered bunker complex, there is a room where everyone begins. It is filled with equipment — Computer consoles, monitors — but the point of it all resides within ten vertical stasis tubes lined neatly along a far wall.

One of them has been cracked and lies dormant, dry. In six of the remaining are bodies, unconscious and floating in their familiar vari-colored scrubs, vital signs ticking calmly off on their respective readouts.

In the corner, near the cracked tube, the ceiling has shattered and tumbled inward, across the floor and over the largest console in the room — The one flashing 24 HOURS UNTIL STASIS FAILURE.

[Clark listens passively until the mention of eating comes up. He looks up a little more in apparent interest. He'd be hungry even if he hadn't been through an ordeal. The last job on the boat didn't exactly include lunch breaks. Being the newbie to the job meant even less time to sit down and have a proper meal. That's all fine when you're being powered by the sun, but in this very mortal body? Not so much.]

I wouldn't mind finding out where I can get a hot meal here. It's been a while. [If the hobo appearance wasn't a huge tip off.]

[Peggy would never want to judge someone on their appearance, mainly because she often uses appearance in order to deceive, herself. Still, she gestures to the nearest chair.]

Go on, sit. I'll fetch some tea and something to eat and you can tell me about where you come from.

[Mainly, if the reason he looks as he does has to do with today or if it's something from before he even arrived here.]

[Clark actually appreciates that even if this is the one time his appearance reflects the fact that he is in fact very hungry and definitely unemployed now that he disappeared off that boat. Oh well. Jobs come and go, right?

He rises to his feet with a grateful nod.]
That seems like a fair trade. Thank you.

[Peggy's grown so used to the habit of this that she's practically on auto-pilot as she works. Within a few moments, the water is boiling and she's able to put a small platter of food together from what they have, bringing fruits, tea, and some cured meats back with her, setting them down on the table so that he can poke at them as he likes.]

I don't think I got your name. I'm Peggy.

[Clark does his best to mind his manners. He starts off by taking a long sip of the tea and nodding gratefully once the cup is set down. Usually this would be the part where he introduces himself as Joseph. Kira made it clear as day that everyone would know his true name whether he wanted them to or not. He'd never insult someone being so kind by providing only a fraction of his name.] Clark Kent. Thank you, Peggy. This means a lot.

[Peggy gives him a warm smile and a nod, though there's no recognition of the name. To be fair, that's the usual case for her, being earlier than everyone else. At least this time, he doesn't seem to know her, so that's one less person from her future.]

It's really the least I can do. Honestly, just be grateful I didn't cook for you, I'm truly rubbish at that and I doubt you'd have wanted a stomach ache after everything.

[Speaking of, she does want to broach that tender topic.]

Do you recall anything? Between being at your home and waking up in the tubes?

[He smiles at the dig Peggy makes at herself. Not everyone can cook. It's what kept him fed no matter where he went in the world in his quest for answers. He chews on some of those cured meats as he listens. When she broaches the question, Clark shakes his head gently and swallows what he's eating politely.] I don't recall any tubes. I woke up in a fountain.

[She swears that she's starting to lose her grip on time and where people are coming from. To a degree, it's almost like when they all first arrived in the chaos of the siren and the wind storm that followed, losing track of the people around her.]

I did the same. Two years ago, but I still don't exactly know how I got nabbed.

[That's the part that still rankles her. How did she get so sloppy?]

[Clark grimaces at that. He doesn't like the idea of anyone snatching a woman like that. He figures it may help to share his experience.] They must have fished me out of the water. I helped some men on an oil rig get to safety when the place went up. I didn't join them in time to get there myself.

[He'll manage. That was the beauty of being him.]

I thought perhaps it had been a portal to another universe, but I thought we'd stopped it.

[Then again, it had driven Whitney to the boundaries of madness, why not trick her? Then again, if the Observers or whatever their captors want to be called are doing this to them, why not toy with them in every manner conceivable?]

You're alive though. Yes? Heartbeat and all?

[It's only now that Clark gets how that sounds. He stops eating long enough to reassure Peggy she isn't talking to a dead man.] I'm alive. I hit the water. I'm sure a boat would have come along eventually.

[He hesitates a second before getting to the interesting part to him.] Is that normal to you? Portals?

[personal profile] womanofvalue 2018-09-27 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
Honestly? Not typically, though I had become used to the idea of objects falling from space in recent years. This was my first tousle with a portal, though.

[ Strange how zero matter could make the Tesseract look somehow mild in comparison, though with all the things she'd collected, she can begin to understand how many things are out there that she doesn't understand. ]

I know it must make me sound mad, but I'm not making it up, I swear.

[Clark shakes his head. He's eager to reassure her even if it tips his hand.] You don't sound mad. I'm used to there only being one strange thing in the world.

[He tacks on,] It's objects falling from space.

[ Peggy thinks that part, she can at least understand. After all, they had waged a whole campaign because of an object from space and she'd lost Steve for it. There had been more, after, but none so impactful. ]

Anything of particular interest, then?
