[MINGLE] Breakfast Feast

WHERE: Lawn in front of 6I Inn
WHEN: Morning, April 5
OPEN TO: ALL - Mingle
WARNINGS: n/a

The day dawns bright and just a little cool, soft mist rolling over the distant mountains as the forest stretches and yawns in the breeze. It's another beautiful morning in this new-old village, just waiting for its inhabitants to begin filling it with the work of the day.

But this day, there is a surprise. A gift, if you will, not unfamiliar to the old timers, although they know too that sometimes these gifts come with strings.

On the lawn in front of the 6I inn, all of the tables, chairs and even the bar has been moved out into the breaking sunshine. A breakfast feast has been arranged, tables piled high with every imaginable delicacy and comfort food of a certain era: Muffins, toast, coffee, fruit, pop-overs, crumpets, lamb chops, porridge, hot chocolate, biscuits, and every kind of egg, just to start. Even the bar is stocked for those itching for mimosas, mint juleps or irish coffee.

Of course, anyone who has spent time in the wilderness can tell you: In a place gone wild, it's only a matter of time before the scent of food draws in unwanted visitors. Eat up while you can, villagers; you may be sharing your plate soon.

His suggestion was, of course, based on the assumption that either hot chocolate or cinnamon would be available again, much less at the same time. "That's a trick I learned from someone back home." Just in case anyone is thinking he came up with it himself. He hadn't been enough of a drinker of hot chocolate to wonder how to make changes to it.

"Of course both hot chocolate and cinnamon are more readily available there." Which isn't very helpful right now.

"Aye, as are many other things we've had to learn to go without," Ned replies, nodding in agreement. There were hard years during the long winters, of course, when food stores were scarcer and items were not as abundant, but being Lord of Winterfell came with its advantages. He'd never take from another family of a lower-born status than he and risk putting them in danger, but he'd also do what he could to always see to it that his family was taken care of and provided for. They never truly went hungry.

"Do you have any other suggestions? Perhaps I might see what's available here at the feast. I hadn't thought to look for cinnamon, but I will."

He's not entirely a stranger to hardship, or particularly to limited diet, and his arrival here hadn't been as much of an adjustment to him as it had to some people. Nor had he become fully acclimated to the modern life he'd been living in Storybrooke, but even so, there are things he misses while living here.

"Have you tried the coffee? It's not for everyone, but I prefer it over other options." Especially when there's something alcoholic to add to it.

"I've had it once before, at the last feast, I believe," Ned replies, recalling the memory. "It was .. a most peculiar sort of experience. My fingers were trembling, my heart raced in my chest as though I'd run from one side of Winterfell to the other. It was not the sort of sensation I was expecting." He has since come to know, from the others more familiar with the drink, that those effects are the exact purpose people consume the beverage - the burst of artificial energy. It seemed and still seems strange to Ned to want to feel so unsteady, but he could see the benefits of it if one were otherwise tired.

"Will this drink," he lifts his hot chocolate, "cause the same thing?"

Those effects are the exact reason Killian likes coffee so much, given the long hours as a ship's officer, and the need to be able to deal with an emergency at a moment's notice, sometimes right after having been woken from sleep. But those effects had definitely taken some getting used to.

"It shouldn't. It's made from a different plant."
