This morning, our intrepid villagers awoke to a surprise of the nicer kind: A bundle of clothing left at the foot of their bed, tied with a bow. There is also a note: Put on your new outfit and join the festivities in the corn field next to the inn.
You may be thinking, what corn field next to the inn? The one that sprung up fully-mature overnight, of course.
In the middle of the field, villagers will find an autumn feast: Tables piled with harvest time food and drink, warm and rustic decorations, the day's sunshine fending off any chill in the air.
Tuck in and enjoy, villagers, but take note: Things often look different in the dark, and you might be one of them.

"We've got a bit of a history," she admits. "I'm Wynonna, by the way. If I'm admitting to killing a man, you may as well know who's incriminating herself. Wynonna Earp."
no subject
"Natasha Romanoff," she introduces herself. "No relation to the previous Natasha, if you knew her. That has to be awkward, being at a party with a guy you killed. Almost as awkward as showing up in the same outfit." Not that Bobo seems to mind his at all, and honestly, she's gotta respect a guy who can work heels like that. "What did he do?"
no subject
"He hurt my sisters," she says, deciding on a vague answer. What had happened to Willa was Willa's story, and not Wynonna's to tell- and it ended with enough shame that treading near it feels like it's enough to stir something out of the depths that she doesn't want to face.
"And he's a demon, and killing those is kind of my thing. Job. Curse. Thing."
no subject
The first part is definitely something Natasha can understand. She never had siblings, even before the Red Room took her in, and connections were always discouraged, but hurting the people important to her? She'd burn the world down for that. There weren't many names on that list, but there were enough. So she nods, although the rest makes her frown faintly, watching Bobo move through the crowd.
"'Job-curse-thing' doesn't sound like it pays very well," she says, a faint note of wry amusement in her voice. "How can you tell he's a demon? I don't think I've ever seen one before." Not that she doesn't believe Wynonna, she's perfectly willing to accept the statement at face value. Curiosity is just a hell of a thing.
no subject
"Not sure what that makes me," she shares. "I mean, other than broccoli, obviously."
no subject
"Maybe you're just a dude, too," she offers, though there's a touch of understanding in her voice. "Or, you know, lady-dude, if you prefer." She shrugs faintly, looking into her own drink before taking a swallow. "It's not an easy thing, going from having a cause to not having one at all, but there's bright spots."
