[MINGLE] Saints & Sinners Masquerade

WHERE: Corn field next to the inn
WHEN: 31 October, all day and night
OPEN TO: ALL - MINGLE
WARNINGS: Please warn as appropriate in your subject lines
NOTES: Please make sure you have read and understand the event details! If you have questions, drop them here. RECOMMENDED BUT NOT REQUIRED: Put your SCRUBS COLOR in your OTA subject line for folks doing bingo. Time your OTA for the harvest feast, the masquerade, or both. Costume matches and details for folks who did not get matched are here.

This morning, our intrepid villagers awoke to a surprise of the nicer kind: A bundle of clothing left at the foot of their bed, tied with a bow. There is also a note: Put on your new outfit and join the festivities in the corn field next to the inn.

You may be thinking, what corn field next to the inn? The one that sprung up fully-mature overnight, of course.

In the middle of the field, villagers will find an autumn feast: Tables piled with harvest time food and drink, warm and rustic decorations, the day's sunshine fending off any chill in the air.

Tuck in and enjoy, villagers, but take note: Things often look different in the dark, and you might be one of them.

Natasha is no stranger to large green man-shaped creatures. Maybe that's why she's not entirely unsurprised at the appearance of this one, although he's definitely a little more leafy than the Hulk, and way definitely more eloquent. She can't quite help a smile at the words she catches as he passes by her little corner near the edges of the gathering, and her response is faintly amused, casual like this is just another perfectly ordinary day. Honestly, she's had weirder.

"You and me both." Her own costume was luckily a little more suited for the weather, layers on layers of cream and brown gauze and linen making up the gear of a Jedi. She's even pleased with the boots, honestly. When these inevitably vanish--she's seen Cinderella, she knows how this works--she's actually going to miss them. "Although you might not have been so lucky if you'd gotten here half an hour earlier."

"I'm used to transformations." One big green shoulder raises and he gestures, "Did you eat anything? I'm concerned it might be the source of the costuming."

He sighs, rolling hsi eyes, "Magic."

"I did, but I'm pretty sure it's not the food," she says thoughtfully, looking around at all the others. "A few didn't eat anything at all. It's the clothing, if anything. Did you read the note that came with yours? I'm assuming that was a gift from our mysterious benefactors." She gestures at his outfit, the actually very flattering print of the shirt. "Magic is as good a word as any for it. You encounter a lot of situations like this where you come from?"

"On occasion." Alec frowns. "The problem is traditionally I can tell. My...well. I'm a being rooted in magic."

He moves to the table, picking up something and dropping it unceremoniously, "...Pun nonwithstanding."

It does get a smile from her, intentional or not. She can appreciate a good pun. "No pun taken," is the faintly dry response, and she watches curiously as he approaches the table, experimentally toying with one of the items on it. "Pretty sure you aren't the only one without your usual...talents. Whatever brought us all here seems to like the idea of a level playing field. No magic, no superhuman abilities. You know, aside from the ones they seem to have given us. Or the ones in the vending machine in the bunker." Which she isn't gonna be touching with a ten-foot pole anytime soon, thank you very much.

"That Vending Machine has intrigued me, but I tried the flowers earlier under Doctor Watney's observations and that...while fascinating was dangerous enough."

He frowns, "It would be different if I could change my shape again however. It's been..."

He laughs, "A long time since I was mortal."

"I think I saw a couple of options for something like that on the vending machine, if you were feeling particularly lucky," she says with a shrug. "Shape-changing sounds like something that would come in handy, especially in a place like this. Mind if I ask what flowers you're talking about?" Because they sound hallucinogenic, honestly, from the way he's talking about them, and you never know when that's going to come in handy.
