[MINGLE] Saints & Sinners Masquerade

WHERE: Corn field next to the inn
WHEN: 31 October, all day and night
OPEN TO: ALL - MINGLE
WARNINGS: Please warn as appropriate in your subject lines
NOTES: Please make sure you have read and understand the event details! If you have questions, drop them here. RECOMMENDED BUT NOT REQUIRED: Put your SCRUBS COLOR in your OTA subject line for folks doing bingo. Time your OTA for the harvest feast, the masquerade, or both. Costume matches and details for folks who did not get matched are here.

This morning, our intrepid villagers awoke to a surprise of the nicer kind: A bundle of clothing left at the foot of their bed, tied with a bow. There is also a note: Put on your new outfit and join the festivities in the corn field next to the inn.

You may be thinking, what corn field next to the inn? The one that sprung up fully-mature overnight, of course.

In the middle of the field, villagers will find an autumn feast: Tables piled with harvest time food and drink, warm and rustic decorations, the day's sunshine fending off any chill in the air.

Tuck in and enjoy, villagers, but take note: Things often look different in the dark, and you might be one of them.

"We managed pizza about two weeks ago." It took some doing and didn't have much by way of meat on it, but it was, undeniably, a pizza. Maybe if they had enough tomatoes and cheese in the winter they could try for it again, that'd be a nice bit of community bonding. Roasting a whole animal on a spit is also a thing but-

Yeah, not thinking about it.

"Fries shouldn't be hard to manage if we get a source for oil. Sushi I wouldn't risk, none of the native fish seem quite up to par."

"And of course I miss it." Ty said with a small sigh, shoulders dropping slightly. His terrible timing seemed to be a reoccurring theme in this place. Of course he'd get here right when he was needed the most back in his own world, he had arrived here right on the cusp of winter, and now apparently he'd even missed the pizza they'd had here.

He was however, impressed at how quickly this guy was snapping out answers, undeterred by the lack of things here.

"No risk no reward." He joked, but he'd keep it in mind, either way. "Though have you thought about this a lot or are you an amazing chef?"

"Maybe I can con my cooks to make it again sometime, depending on how the harvest goes." And if there's enough cheese. He's not sure what the bottleneck on that would be but- Pizza's a sometimes food, now, for a handful of reasons. As much as it might help with how much it reminds some people of home.

"I miss food from home sometimes- I think most of us do. I stumbled across managing pizza, honestly, though the first person here that manages to make burgers happen? Will be reason enough for me to double down on frying oil and making something to fry potatoes in." Hes more of a hardware guy than a software guy when it comes to kitchen goods.

"Whatever I have to say or do to help that con happen, let me know. There's only so much poorly seasoned fish I can eat." Ty said cheerfully as he polished off the apple cake as if to prove his point, reaching for more of the baked goods. He knew enough to live off of the land, but survivalist cooking was a far cry from quality home made food or restaurants.

He let out a soft sigh at the mention of burgers, thoughtful. "Well, all this corn did sprout up for a reason. With a bit of tinkering corn oil might be possible."

"Have you tried the red salt?" Spicy, sure, but damn if it doesn't offer some kind of flavor to whatever you throw it on. Better than bland fish and stew in Tony's opinion. Maybe he'll get lucky and someone will drop off a box of spices and seasonings for the kitchen.

"I actually don't know much about the extraction process but- if you need a press or equipment to make it happen? I'll add it to my list." It'll be a bitch to set up, probably, but in the long run? Beneficial for the whole village. Oil's useful in so many ways and it'd beat having to cook with rendered fat all the damn time.

"Yeah, when I first got here I had way too much and had to stick my head in the fountain to cool down." Ty admitted sheepishly, but even with his limited knowledge of seasoning, wouldn't use as much as whoever had made that food at the inn.

As for what was necessary to make corn oil, Ty shrugged, thoughtful. "I'll look into it. It's not like there's a shortage on free time around here, and someone might have some know how."

"Check the schoolhouse. Books on how to do pretty much everything and anything can be found there. Figure it out, bring it to me and get a fancy plaque with your name on it or something, as well as first crack at frenchfries." It seems only fair, if he does the research.

"See you would have had me with french fries alone, but adding a plaque too? Now I have to do it." Ty said with a small laugh, but the idea of helping out with something here, even something as small an inconsequential as oil, was a good project. He always worked best when he had a goal to achieve.

"If you want to get started on the plaque early, I'm Ty Rhodes." He said cheekily.

"Nah." Just that, easy and offhand and without a lick of heat or venom. "You are now Fry Guy. I dub thee."

With the power vested in him by not giving a fuck RE when is appropriate to hand out nicknames, Tony marked Ty as Fry Guy. "Or Tyde pod. Either or. Maybe both, it depends. I'm Tony Stark."

"Little bit premature, isn't it?" Ty groaned, but there were worse things to be called so he was going to let that lie for now and hope that died off quickly. Or with the introduction of 'tyde pod', his nose crinkled, half offended and half laughing.

"Fry Guy is way better than Tyde Pod by far. Not sure I'd like whatever Tyde Pod challenge would happen here."

"The better I get to know you the more ridiculous they're going to get, you've been warned." Names are- well, he keeps track of them pretty well. But offhand little tidbits, hooks? It's how he signals approval if not affection. He approves of this guy's priorities, thus. Fry Guy.

"I mean, we don't exactly have complicated single serving detergent here- unless we get some seaweed from the coast and I start extracting agar-agar."

"Right, so keep my more embarrassing stories to myself, check." Ty said, helping himself to more food, since who knew when he was going to get a chance next. "Though now I'm curious, do you get a lot of nicknames in return?"

And as nice as it would be to have things like detergent, Ty waved it off. "Having detergent would be great, but I could only allow it if we're agreeing to stick with Fry Guy." Ty said mock solemnly.
