[MINGLE] Saints & Sinners Masquerade

WHERE: Corn field next to the inn
WHEN: 31 October, all day and night
OPEN TO: ALL - MINGLE
WARNINGS: Please warn as appropriate in your subject lines
NOTES: Please make sure you have read and understand the event details! If you have questions, drop them here. RECOMMENDED BUT NOT REQUIRED: Put your SCRUBS COLOR in your OTA subject line for folks doing bingo. Time your OTA for the harvest feast, the masquerade, or both. Costume matches and details for folks who did not get matched are here.

This morning, our intrepid villagers awoke to a surprise of the nicer kind: A bundle of clothing left at the foot of their bed, tied with a bow. There is also a note: Put on your new outfit and join the festivities in the corn field next to the inn.

You may be thinking, what corn field next to the inn? The one that sprung up fully-mature overnight, of course.

In the middle of the field, villagers will find an autumn feast: Tables piled with harvest time food and drink, warm and rustic decorations, the day's sunshine fending off any chill in the air.

Tuck in and enjoy, villagers, but take note: Things often look different in the dark, and you might be one of them.

"I've known individuals who...amount to merpeople. They're not pleasant."

Best not to think of Arthur Curry here however. He and Atlantis didn't get along on principle even if he had fingers in their kingdom.

Then again, he had fingers everywhere. Normally.

"...No I was never much of a costume person. This is about my speed and I do appreciate having a...shirt for the moment."

Normally, Ty might have laughed off such a statement, but considering this person's looks and the fact that someone else here lived in a world full of demons and witches, he couldn't really apply normal reasoning to anything here.

"Seriously? They actually the type to lead people to shipwrecks and their deaths?" And he hoped this person was patient, because everything they said was only giving rise to more questions. Eyebrows arched, Ty surveyed him for a few moments, trying to find a diplomatic way to phrase all of his questions.

"How fast are you?" Seemed like the safest one to start, and because he was aware he was coming off as someone interrogating instead of just having an actual conversation, he shifted his plate so he could hold out a hand. "And, sorry, I should probably introduce myself. I'm Ty. You can tell me to stop asking you questions at any time."

"...I can't speak to what they'd do or not do, but I know that Aquaman has tried to work with the surface world on multiple occasions."

He shrugged his massive shoulders before attempting to stick his hands in his pockets and...failing. Well. It all can't be perfect.

"...How fast am I?" When connected to the green? He was hungering for it. yearning, "Not very admittedly. And a pleasure to meet you Ty. Never stop asking questions. I'm a scientist. My job is to ask questions. If you have any about me I'd love to answer them."

"Aquaman? That sounds like it should be a superhero name." Ty said amused, before deciding to move to the far more interesting topic.

It would probably be insurmountably rude to ask if science was the reason that he looked like how he did at the moment, especially since this scientist probably got it all the time.

"What's your field of study?" He asked curiously, turning to face him properly.

"Botany. and biology."

The notion of Aquaman as a superhero makes him chuckle, "He is a superhero. Aquaman. He's a part of the Justice League. A collection of superheroes."

"I probably should have guessed that." Ty said offhandedly, before grinning when the scientist let out a chuckle. It was good to know that he had a sense of humor. He'd been a bit nervous, but if he could make him laugh, they should be fine.

"Seriously?" He asked, more amused than anything. "Then he's made good choices. What about you then? Are you a superhero too?"

A...disconcerting take. Still.

"I'm what's considered a metahuman. I don't...it.."

Good job, you've caught Alec embarrassed.

"I serve the interests of the green and protect humans from it. I protect it and them so...I suppose."

Was it weird to find an embarrassed metahuman, who looked like he could have easily been out of an 80's monster movie, kind of endearing? Probably, but Ty tried not to laugh, lips quirking up at the edges.

"Thank you then, for your service." Ty said, a bit cheekily, but sincerely enough. After all, he had a vested interest in not falling prey to whatever sort of plants here that could cause him harm. "Do you have a superhero name I should call you by or is it okay to ask for your name?"

"Alec Holland." He nods, "I'm the Swamp Thing." He's a bit nonplussed at that. He doesn't really do secret identities. And he's stopped caring what people think of it.

There's nothing people can do to hurt him for better or worse, "And what do I call you?"

"I'll stick with Alec, if that's okay with you? The Swamp Thing sounds a bit too much for my taste." And maybe a bit rude, even if he had been thinking it. It wasn't like calling him an Ent had been any better.

He held out his hand for a handshake, almost by reflex. "I'm Ty Rhodes. It's nice to meet you."
