It began slowly.
A wisp of song or familiar sound on the breeze swept in from the lake. No source to be found, only the uneasy feeling it had been heard before as it coiled itself steadily inside the minds of the chosen. The sound was a mantra, pulsing soft at first and then louder, growing over days until it seemed to fill the skull, relentless. Come here, the lake whispered, cajoled, shouted. It is cool and quiet beneath the waves.
Come here, it presses now in time with the melody until there is nothing but to blindly follow. The water is calling.

He squeezes his eyes shut tightly and thinks he can name it as the Cure, if he focuses hard enough. "It just led me here, like if I wanted to hear more of it, I had to keep walking this way. That's mad, right? That's not normal?"

"I mean, I also wouldn't say no to a beautiful woman," he quips. "It has been a while."

He looks over to Ravi.
"When did Helen disappear?" he asks, voice soft and sympathetic.

"My luck hasn't exactly been stellar these days," he admits, at least in the romantic sense. And in the practical sense, given what nearly just happened.

"Interested in anyone? Hoping to find them in the bottom of the lake?" He has to give Ravi a little bit of a hard time.
no subject
Great, Ravi, real great. Some best friend you are.
"If there's a beautiful woman who loves Star Wars at the bottom of that lake, I genuinely might consider drowning for a little while," he says. "That's how bad I am."

Still, that doesn't mean it's .. easy to swallow and digest the fact that they're both here in the village, together, and are unable to be together. It's worse considering the fact that they could technically be together now, with the whole zombie-zombie thing. That was something they could never seem to get right back in Seattle.
So he does shoot Ravi a look mixed with disappointment, annoyance, and frustration, but he also knows Ravi's almost just taken himself out, Virginia Woolf-style. He'll let it all slide, just this once.
"I'll only let you do that if she has a sister or a friend for me. Then I'll come with."

"Don't worry, we can be bachelors together," he says. "Maybe not with Call of Duty and our televisions, but we could always start a D&D campaign?" At home, he'd been a little ashamed, but here? "I think Sirjay would be excellent at this place."
no subject
"Battle of Pegasus is what I miss the most," he states with a heavy, heavy sigh attached. But at the mention of D&D, he looks over towards Ravi with renewed hope and widened eyes. "Sirjay Esclaborne, the human paladin." He reaches out to put a hand on Ravi's shoulder. "And Mosco Bandywax of the Mirkwood Bandywaxes, the Halfling monk." He feels something like hope for the first time in what feels like forever. "Do you think we could get something going? Do you think the others would wanna play? I mean, what's the off-chance we have a DM brain loitering around somewhere for Liv to nom on?"
no subject
"Do the brains sort of linger in your mouth, so to speak?"

"I always figured a dungeon was more like .. a room? Or a series of rooms? Like what they kept Leo in in Man in the Iron Mask. That sorta thing. This is a whole village, so it feels ... less like a dungeon, more like a .." Now it's Major's turn to try and pinpoint the right term. "Like that island in Shutter Island. No escaping, really. And a lot of crazy folks. But at least we can move around. And don't have to wear iron masks." He snaps and points at Ravi. "Or like The Truman Show. I think that's a better comparison."
no subject
"I mean, you are handsome, but you're always the lead character, aren't you?" He never gets a go and that's just unfair.
