Rain, hail, shine; blizzard, earthquake or lightning storm, the meals at the Inn have continued. People can, and do, wander in at breakfast and supper - as long as the stores are enough for three meals, anyway - but the main meal remains the one at midday. It's this meal which is the main event that Kate structures her day around, making sure volunteers arrive to help prepare, serve, and then clean; double-checking that there is enough food for all, that stores aren't too low and that fresh greens have been gathered. With the village chickens now producing eggs regularly there's a welcome addition of protein to the foodstuffs, and by now there are a number of experienced cooks in the village. At least, experienced in the ways of cooking communally and with what's on hand.

The main room of the Inn is swept, dusted; cutlery and bowls, plates are laid out on the sideboards in piles to be collected as people need. Everything is as it should be, even if some people - Kate included - are feeling a bit under the weather. But that's to be expected, isn't it? Everyone gets run down, has a day or two of feeling off colour. Certainly, it's nothing to worry about.

So come on in, help at the kitchen or pull up a chair at a table and enjoy some warm food and company while the outside confusion stays firmly outside.

Sooner or later, he'd have likely gone through a similar process of figuring out the layout of the kitchen. After all, if this sort of gathering is a regular occurrence, he'll likely turn up again. And will be just as willing to help then as he is now, besides. But for the time being, he absolutely appreciates the offer and there's a nod and the beginnings of a smile at her words.

"It's appreciated."

Admittedly, it won't take long before he has a general idea of where most things go, but until that point he's absolutely grateful for whatever assistance she should choose to offer.

"And I am, yes. It's been a little more than a week, since I arrived."

And to be perfectly honest, he's still not particularly sure he likes the situation as a whole. But he can learn to tolerate it well enough to get by, while he works on finding a way to get back to the Enterprise. And if it takes a while, well. He can certainly be patient.

"Your welcome." Wanda replied in a soft voice. He hadn't exactly said thank you but she didn't know what else to say. Bit by bit Wanda was becoming more socially inclined. It was a very slow process but she was getting practice.

"I see."

Her first week had been interesting though it was made easier with the appearance of Clint and a handful of the other Avengers in town, some of who aren't in the village anymore.

Wanda dunked a collection of spoons into her hot soapy water, fishing them out one by one to scrub them and then wash them off in the clear water to her left. Since it was a lot of spoons she began to line them up on the towel to dry. "If you need anything, let me know."

He might not have directly said thank you, it's true. But he'd meant his comment in a similar enough vein that he is neither surprised nor put out that she responds the way she does. And that she's soft-spoken isn't much of a problem either - it's not the first time he's met people who were, and he's capable of holding up at least most of a conversation on his own.

And given what he's experienced so far, it's at least been an interesting first week and a bit. One that's been made better by the fact that there's at least one person he knows from home, yes. But it's still been something of an adjustment all the same.

"I should be fine for now. But I appreciate the offer."

There's a moment of silence then, broken only by the sound of dishes being washed, but it's not too long before he speaks up again either.

"Are gatherings like this a regular occurrence here?"

"There is food provided around noon but anyone is welcome to use the inn's kitchen if they are hungry at another time." It was a daily thing and while it was not a wide spread of food, those who were here were able to offer one meal that the people at the inn didn't have to worry about. Sometimes there were people making dinner or breakfast but lunch was the only meal that was intended for everyone to partake.

Wanda didn't know why it was lunch. Most likely, because noon was the only time of day when it was easiest to tell the time. It was always when the sun was at its highest point in the sky.

"It is best not to waste food." Which was another reason why they had larger meals like this, even if it was just once a day.

Wanda would help with lunch; preserve some of the meats that came in from the morning hunt and then head home to feed the growing collection of animals that she and Clint had taken in. Somedays she didn't make it to the inn but Wanda did what she could.

Midday is the easiest time of day to identify, it's true. It might not always be precisely noon depending on the length of the day on the planet in question or how the inhabitants of said planet happen to measure time, but given that they haven't any way to even begin to look into the finer details of that particular question calling it 'noon' is as good a way to indicate it as any. Especially given that he has yet to meet too many people who aren't at least familiar with Earth-based terminology when it comes to the time of day.

"I'll keep it in mind. And I agree. Especially given that there seems to be a limited capacity to preserve food long-term, here."

Which is most likely intentional on behalf of the Observers, not that he mentions it. After all, given that Wanda has almost certainly been in the village longer than he has, he wouldn't be surprised if it's a thought that's occurred to her as well.

Wanda nodded her head in reply. "I help preserve the food here. If you catch something I can prep it for you." She might not be able to save all of it but she knew how to disassemble most animals thanks to Jon's and Kate's teachings. It had been a useful skill to learn given how many creatures lived at her home and how often Clint liked to hunt.

She paused in her cleaning to look over at Jean-Luc.

"You haven't been here long?" Except that Wanda was sure that she hadn't seen him at the inn very often. Her lips tugged into a frown when she realized that he must know someone who was already here.
enterprisingheart: (what to make of this?)

"A week and bit."

There's a shrug to go with his words, as if to say that he's aware that it's not much, as compared to the lengths of some people's stays. But it's something all the same, and he has to admit - if only privately - that he can't really say that he much looks forward to the idea of staying long enough for the duration of his stay to be something that can be counted in months and never mind anything longer.

"But I'll keep it in mind, if I should decide to turn my hand to hunting."

Or trapping, if that should prove to be the more relevant.

Wanda nodded her head softly as she finished the last few dishes. "Do you have any questions?" She asked in an even voice, making it sound more like she was trying to make conversation than she was trying to help. Wanda liked helping people but she never was the sort of person to force her help on others.

With the dishes washed she needed the dump out the buckets of soapy and dirty water outside but she was delaying to speak to Jean-Luc a few moments more.

"Not just at the moment, no."

No doubt he'll have more eventually. But just at the moment there isn't really anything he can think of. Which is probably just as well, given that he's not unaware that the buckets of water will need to be dumped outside and the last few dishes are dried and put away besides. The latter of which he turns his attention to, assuming Wanda doesn't have objections.

Wanda nodded her head and then grabbed the buckets. She carefully carried them passed Jean-Luc and out of the inn. She walked a bit of a distance before dumping them out and returning the buckets to the inn. She didn't expect to see the man when she returned but she she did then she'd offer him a proper goodbye before heading back home.

She wasn't the best at basic social skills.
enterprisingheart: (let me see if I've understood)

There's a nod in return as she heads out to empty the buckets. But past that, he doesn't see any particular reason to linger. The dishes are dried and put away, and he figures that he might as well see if there's anything left to be done, yet. As such, by the time she returns, he is gone.

That said, neither has he directly left the Inn, so if she should want to seek him out, she's still able to. But if not, that's alright by him as well.
