Rain, hail, shine; blizzard, earthquake or lightning storm, the meals at the Inn have continued. People can, and do, wander in at breakfast and supper - as long as the stores are enough for three meals, anyway - but the main meal remains the one at midday. It's this meal which is the main event that Kate structures her day around, making sure volunteers arrive to help prepare, serve, and then clean; double-checking that there is enough food for all, that stores aren't too low and that fresh greens have been gathered. With the village chickens now producing eggs regularly there's a welcome addition of protein to the foodstuffs, and by now there are a number of experienced cooks in the village. At least, experienced in the ways of cooking communally and with what's on hand.

The main room of the Inn is swept, dusted; cutlery and bowls, plates are laid out on the sideboards in piles to be collected as people need. Everything is as it should be, even if some people - Kate included - are feeling a bit under the weather. But that's to be expected, isn't it? Everyone gets run down, has a day or two of feeling off colour. Certainly, it's nothing to worry about.

So come on in, help at the kitchen or pull up a chair at a table and enjoy some warm food and company while the outside confusion stays firmly outside.

Isabelle's gotten used to pulling herself out of bed right around the time the midday meal is served. She used to sleep through it, her nocturnal habits hard to break. But she's been adjusting to the type of schedule the village seems to run on, and she figures it won't be long until she's waking up bright and early like everyone else does.

She's not really looking forward to it.

Bounding down the stairs, she spots Clary and her fiery hair almost immediately. Isabelle still hasn't told her about her mom and about everything that's happened. It sends a little pang of guilt every time she sees Clary, but she's hoping she can put it off indefinitely. There's no need to make Clary upset and worried before it actually happens, as far as Isabelle's concerned. It's done.

"I wish that worked," Isabelle sighs, dropping herself in the spot Clary saved for her. She has her own plate of food, a bowl of soup and plenty of bread and fritters, hoping to get some carbs in. It's hard to stay active when they're not getting their daily calorie intake.

Clary gets up about an hour or so before Isabelle. It didn't surprise her, between the two of them, Isabelle was the one who was practiced at staying up through the night. Clary liked sleeping but if it ever got to late in the morning her body would automatically wake her up like she was late for school or something. She tried to be quiet when she slipped out of the room and then would spend her mornings wandering before lunch.

There wasn't a lot of time to really do anything.

She blissfully ate her meal, smiling with Isabelle joined her. Clary would have brought some food back to the room if Izzy had missed the meal but she was glad to see her friend awake and alert. "Morning." -ish.

Clary smiled. "I'm going on wishful thinking at the moment." It's gotten them pretty far. "What are you up too today?" She paused, realizing how weird of a question that was here. "Scratch that. Do you think we can continue training here?" She had trained some at the Institute, between everything else that was happening, and Clary wanted to keep it up if she could. With Isabelle here it was possible though it mostly lead to Clary getting her ass kicked by the seasoned Shadowhunter.

Isabelle has been craving the finer things in life for weeks. Things like music and parties and an extra large pizza from the shop two blocks down from the Institute. They were things she never thought she'd have to live without, but here she is, eating some weird fish-based soup in a village full of strangers.

Not that they're strangers anymore. Isabelle's made plenty of friends, and even the people she doesn't talk to regularly she knows by name. These are people she's realizing she'd fight to protect, if it came down to it.

Isabelle shrugs a shoulder, stirring her soup around before taking a bite of it. It's not terrible, of course. They have a slew of great cooks here. But it tastes a lot like everything else they have to eat with their limited resources. "Sure. There's lots of hand-to-hand stuff we can do, and some machetes and things lying around."

Clary was watching her soup as she spooned another helping into her mouth. It was a process to get used to everything but Clary thought she was doing decently well at it. It helped a lot to have Isabelle with her though she was also happy to meet the others in the village. Some people she found annoying, like Jax and Erik, but she figured that they weren't bad people.

At least, she didn't think they were bad people.

At Isabelle's reply Clary looked up with a smile. "Let's do it. Maybe not with actual machetes." They didn't have their stele's and while Clary's pain tolerance was growing, she didn't want to have to deal with injury or infection in a place without medical care.

Isabelle's own machete is strapped around her waist with a makeshift sheath, something made out of fabric and rope. With as little clothing as Isabelle usually wears in the village's heat, it's the easiest way to carry a large bladed weapon with her and leave it easily accessible. The actual physical threats in the village are few and far between — there seems to be more psychological warfare than anything else — but she won't be caught out and about without a weapon.

Even if her fists make pretty good weapons on their own.

"Sure," Isabelle agrees, shrugging a shoulder as she takes another bite of soup. "We'll work up to the machetes."

Clary snickered as she continued to eat. It'd be something to look forward to while she found other things around the inn to do. When she was finished eating she pushed her bowl towards the center of the table and sat back, waiting for Isabelle to finish her meal. It was a 'leave no man behind' moment.

"What are you going to do today?" She was still awkwardly finding a place to fit in when it came to the village dynamics. There was someone who could do everything and Clary's only real talent was in art and she supposed fighting but she was woefully untrained.

Her bright green eyes looked over the room, eyeing everyone else at the tables eating.
