He wouldn't actually say it was really hot yet, but it's definitely getting to the sort of temperatures that make Finnick miss swimming. There's no substitute for the sand of a beach underfoot, the reassuring roar of the surf, the taste of salt in the air, but there is at least water here, tumbling down from the waterfall and flowing through the canyon until it disappears into the rocks to the south. And he knows from constantly checking his fish traps that the water is deliciously cool.

He's tested out a few spots along the river for swimming, and it's good to be in the water again, after being kept out of it for so long by the harshness of the winter.  Not swimming doesn't feel right to him, and it never has. He's never spent this long somewhere with a winter this cold, and he can't remember ever going this long without swimming. So Finnick's been testing the water out since before it was probably what most people would consider to be warm enough to swim. It had helped that he and Annie had some gifts to hunt for in the river, but those have long been found, and now it's just for relaxation.

The calmest, most relaxing place he's found so far for swimming in the river is the pool at the foot of the waterfall, where the water plunges into the canyon crisp and cool from the heights of the cliffs. It's deep around the falls, and it's big enough to swim, and Finnick spends most of the hottest parts of the day there.

So whenever he hears someone talking about the heat while he's dropping food off in the village, he suggests they try the waterfall pool. Word's likely to get around, so he won't be entirely surprised to find other people stopping by the falls.

When they do, they're likely to find him swimming around the deep part near the falls, stripped down to his underwear and, from the grin on his face, having the time of his life. It's clear just from looking at him that he's good at this, moving through the water with a confidence and grace more like to a sea-creature than a man. He's in such a good mood that he even calls out to greet many of the people who approach.

Of course, he's not the guardian of the waterfall: everyone's welcome to stop by whether he's there or not. Once or twice, there's even a moose to be seen standing at the edge of the pool taking a long, relaxing drink.

Wanda merely nodded, assuming that Claire also arrived when the snow was melting.

She couldn't say much when it came to getting out of her home. She did thanks to Clint at first and then later because she had a job to do. Given no motivation Wanda knew she'd spend all her time in doors. Now, lacking her powers, she had more motivation than ever to get out and try and do something about their situation. Not that she'd cover much ground in that respects.

"Do you think our watchers control the weather?" It was a seemingly random thought but it's been on Wanda's mind all day. That and she wasn't the best at small talk. You needed a normal childhood to be any good at small talk.

Claire wasn't sure how much ground anyone could cover in their current situation because there were days when it felt a little like they were being set up to fail. Really, this place made the other worlds she had been in luxurious. It also made her realize just how relaxed she had gotten but she didn't want to admit that out loud.

"I don't know, that's a good question." She looked up at the sky, wrinkling her nose. "If they do, they seem to love the extremes. I mean, there was the the snow, the lightning...."

Wanda nodded. "It feels like a test." She knew the mind of scientists and they were rarely nice places. Testing, changing and watching: Wanda hated it.

She exhaled and tried her best to relax.

"And Hail." She added lazily.

"It definitely feels like a test." Claire echoed, nodding her head again. Claire had been fairly lucky to avoid scientists ever since her own abilities came out but this was the first time she had lost her ability for longer than a couple days.

"Yes, and the hail. That was definitely intense."

Wanda's eyes closed as she focused on the cooling curl of the water against her skin. She didn't want to think of those things now, not when she's finally gotten them out of her head.

"Let's hope it doesn't last." She sighed wishing that she had something more than hope.

Claire couldn't blame Wanda for not wanting to think about the strange weather and other things for a moment. She wanted a break too but it wouldn't be long before the whispers would slip into her head again. For now, though, she tried.

"Aside from all that." She started and paused as she glanced around, thinking of what to say next. "I'm trying to think of some good things about this place besides the people. I guess it's nice not to be stuck in a hotel."

"The people aren’t bad." Wanda replied in a soft voice. She had been able to meet new people and see old friends. She had been sad when some of the people she knew vanished but she figured they found a way home, considering who vanished it made sense.

Wanda exhaled a slow breath before continuing. "I’m not used to talking to people." It was an easy thing to admit. "I’m getting better at it here."

"I know." She had a bit of fondness for some of the people in this place and no one had made her worry yet.

"I wouldn't have known." Claire replied kindly when Wanda started that she wasn't used to talking to people. She smiled, directing her gaze away to the water again. She watched as different people splashed about or just lazed in the sun nearby.

Wanda rolled her shoulders, unsure of what else she should say. She really wasn't that good at small talk and without realizing it she let the silence between them linger and pull as seconds bled into minutes. It didn't bother Wanda. She found silence comfortable but she knew that not everyone did.

Her chin tilted up and she looked up at the sun before returning her gaze to the water that curled around her stomach.
