[MINGLE] Saints & Sinners Masquerade

WHERE: Corn field next to the inn
WHEN: 31 October, all day and night
OPEN TO: ALL - MINGLE
WARNINGS: Please warn as appropriate in your subject lines
NOTES: Please make sure you have read and understand the event details! If you have questions, drop them here. RECOMMENDED BUT NOT REQUIRED: Put your SCRUBS COLOR in your OTA subject line for folks doing bingo. Time your OTA for the harvest feast, the masquerade, or both. Costume matches and details for folks who did not get matched are here.

This morning, our intrepid villagers awoke to a surprise of the nicer kind: A bundle of clothing left at the foot of their bed, tied with a bow. There is also a note: Put on your new outfit and join the festivities in the corn field next to the inn.

You may be thinking, what corn field next to the inn? The one that sprung up fully-mature overnight, of course.

In the middle of the field, villagers will find an autumn feast: Tables piled with harvest time food and drink, warm and rustic decorations, the day's sunshine fending off any chill in the air.

Tuck in and enjoy, villagers, but take note: Things often look different in the dark, and you might be one of them.

"The part where we're clones or the part where we're clones designed specifically for this experiment? If the second one's the case I've got a mile long list of complaints for the management." There's only so much trauma any one person can take and everyone here? Has heaps. There is not one well adjusted human or human adjacent being available in the whole village.

Which is more than a little fucked up. "But we get food and costumes so. I might let twelve percent of them slide."

"Pretty sure they're not taking complaints," Peter also helpfully points out, because yeah, haha, they all joke and shake their fists at the proverbial heavens, but whether anybody is actually listening is a whole other existential crisis.

"Wait—" Peter hesitates, squinting with a little tilt of his head. "Does that mean you like the costume? Because you sounded a lot like you didn't like the costume and were mad at me about it, but what you just said, that implies the costumes are a good thing. Or like, 12% of a good thing."

"I am mildly annoyed by the costume, mostly because of the conversation we had in the donut." That more than anything else is what had him blaming Peter. For now he just reaches out to pat his his shoulder with a clawed hand, shifting on his stilts. "If it weren't for the stilts and the weight of this skull? Wouldn't be terrible. SO it's...not the worst thing I've worn."

"Why mildly annoyed?" Peter protests, arms held out in an exaggerated shrug, cat still clasped in one hand. "You said it was a good plan! It worked and that alien guy flew out into space and we saved the wizard!"

It was, in Peter's opinion, one of his better movie-based plans, and it's not his fault it was only kind of a Band-Aid for the whole situation.

"It was and it did but A) I didn't think of it first and I'm a little annoyed at myself for that, B) I'm not used to being the one telling someone else not to make film references during a mission and C) It made me feel old. I do not need help feeling old, Pete, my knees do that for me." All the heavy lifting RE information of how old he is, right in those two joints.

You are old, Peter thinks but most definitely doesn't say. There's nothing wrong with being old, he thinks; he knows tons of really nice or cool old people. Like Dr. Banner or that lady that bought him the churro.

"Yeah, but you're Iron Man," he helpfully points out instead, because being the black leather jacket of superheroes has got to negate pretty much everything else. "I wouldn't even have a real suit without you."

"You were spider man without the suit. You did a whole heroic if incredibly dangerous mission all on your own without the suit." Which he is still a little mad at himself for allowing to happen but- hey. Day saved. Pete did his job and made a good life choice.

Wins all around.

"I have zero doubt that one day with the resources and time you'd be able to design something similar. But until that day I'm happy to help out."
