[MINGLE] Saints & Sinners Masquerade

WHERE: Corn field next to the inn
WHEN: 31 October, all day and night
OPEN TO: ALL - MINGLE
WARNINGS: Please warn as appropriate in your subject lines
NOTES: Please make sure you have read and understand the event details! If you have questions, drop them here. RECOMMENDED BUT NOT REQUIRED: Put your SCRUBS COLOR in your OTA subject line for folks doing bingo. Time your OTA for the harvest feast, the masquerade, or both. Costume matches and details for folks who did not get matched are here.

This morning, our intrepid villagers awoke to a surprise of the nicer kind: A bundle of clothing left at the foot of their bed, tied with a bow. There is also a note: Put on your new outfit and join the festivities in the corn field next to the inn.

You may be thinking, what corn field next to the inn? The one that sprung up fully-mature overnight, of course.

In the middle of the field, villagers will find an autumn feast: Tables piled with harvest time food and drink, warm and rustic decorations, the day's sunshine fending off any chill in the air.

Tuck in and enjoy, villagers, but take note: Things often look different in the dark, and you might be one of them.

Hawke stares at him while he rambles on about village planning, and it's good someone thinks about that for more than a few seconds. She's a city girl these days, or she was until recently, but she's also only had to worry about herself since Kirkwall. She glances around at the others there, and yeah, alright, she worries about them a little too. "I can do the hunting and get enough meat to last us. I think there's a garden though, I saw a big building with greens inside of it, but didn't go in." It isn't really her thing. She's killed many plants by accident at this point, and her mother stopped asking her to water them because of it.

"Why so quick to claim you have no rights to running a second village? Pretty certain the only people who get things done in this world are the ones who do it themselves. I, on the other hand, made a terrible leader so I'll leave that to those of you who have the mind for it." Hawke has a reputation for many things, and one of them was leadership, and she swears up and down it was a big mistake. All she wanted was to have a life with her friends and a relatively safe city for them all to live in. She's not taking responsibility for lives like that again.

She smiles and smacks him on the shoulder in her friendly way. "Now that I can agree with. You need to loosen up, darling. When's the last time you had fun?"

An odd question. One that caught him off guard and made him think. Fun...

Fun was an odd thing, in and of itself. His life had been one of grief, of loss, and, at times, of satisfaction. Fun, though.

Altaïr lifted one shoulder. "Fun is not something that has had much weight in my life. I do not think I am built for it."

His mind tended toward other things. A job well done. The satisfaction of gaining a skill, of perfecting a mission. At times, the warm contentment of laying beside his wife--

Now, he thought he could depend more on doing a job well rather than fun.

"Sweet Andraste, Altaïr, of course you're built for fun. Everyone's built for fun!" Her first thought of fun for him is completely swept from the table, because he feels more like a brother to her more than anything else. Hawke adopts people quickly and for good reasons. His sincerity and mind made for a lovely combination, if slightly unsettling in how much it made her think, and Hawke doesn't like thinking.

She smacks him on the back in a friendly way and then grabs his arm, pulling him toward the food table. "Alright, you're going to try food here that you've never had before, just cause you can. And drink something new. Have you had rum? You should try rum." Hawke's more than happy to do all of that herself, but she's on a mission.

"Fun is about doing things just because they're there. Leaping off trees, which I know you like to do, but only to enjoy the wind in your hair and not for practice. Discovering something new and not immediately thinking if it's useful or not, as long as it's interesting." Hawke will have to start a card game for all of them. She'll need to get cards, that's the hard part. She could make them, but it's not like there's paper lying around. "Fun is the absence of thinking too much, which you do a great deal of."

"Okhti, if my wife could never make my mind stop working in all the years of our marriage, I doubt you can manage in one night." Even the offer of rum had him lifting a hand of gentle refusal. But the food...

The food, he would, and did, accept. After all, he was curious, and much of this, he had never seen before. It smelled interesting. Not what he was used to, but... interesting. "As I said - I am not much built for fun."

"I'm not going to stop trying just because you say so. This is what happens when you have a Hawke adopt you." She is always quick to make friends and give them her all. Hawke's friendly to everyone, but she has a very good gut for the people who are worth making the effort for. Outside of a few glaring mistakes.

Hawke has some ideas of the food, but even what she doesn't recognize she's willing to try out. No time like the present. "I certainly hope that your wife managed to make your mind stop working occasionally," she teases with a little mischief in her wink. "No one wants their husband to be thinking away when they're having some personal time if you know what I mean."

"You did not know my wife," he answered, a crinkle at the corners of his eyes - but then he was giving his attention to the food, choosing dishes to try with the woman he now thought of as sister. A talkative, enthusiastic sister, the likes of whom he had never known. But one that had made her own niche in his life all the same.
