001: Slippery when wet

WHO: Danny Williams
WHERE: Fountain/Inn
WHEN: Friday 17 -> 22
OPEN TO: All
WARNINGS: Some mentioning of violence, almost freezing to death and possibly some nudity once he gets inside somewhere warm and can change clothes

Fountain/Inn Nov -17th
The cold water comes as a shock to Danny's system. He had been... well not really safe or sound for that matter but at least warm in Colombia. The last thing he remembered was calling Grace and talking to her before the guards had caught on and dragged him outside to deliver a beating. He had blacked out in the middle of it and now he is surrounded by freezing water. He blinks and sees the light far above him. It feels too far but he has no choice but to swim for it. An eternity later he breaks the surface and gulps in cold air. He can see the edge of the pool and swims for it even as he can feel his strength leaving him by the second. He manages to pull himself out of the fountain, soaking wet and for a moment he just kneels at the side of it, looking around the area.

He wants to just lay down and rest, he feels so tired. And cold. His whole body shakes with the cold and it is hard to think and to breathe. But he sees a house with lights and he feels like he can almost feel the warmth reaching for him. He somehow manages to get to his feet and stumbles towards the inn. By the time he gets to the door, he doesn't have enough strength left to raise his hand and push the door open and instead he just collapses against it.

After he gets dragged inside and changes to warm and dry clothes he will be hiding next to the most convenient heat source until he feels human again.

Inn+Outside Until 22nd
Danny spends a lot of time at the Inn. Even days later he feels like he hasn't quite gotten warm again and he likes staying somewhere it is nice and warm. The fact that there are people here who can explain where he is and what is happening is a bonus as well. After a few days, he starts to get a little bit of cabin fever though and packs on as much clothing as he can before he sets out to explore the village and get a feel for the place.

Outside 20th

Moana squinted at him. "Why would you bring a tree inside?" It didn't make a lot of sense to her. "Presents like gifts?" That sounded like a really weird tradition.

"I am not sure what skiing is but I've built a little house in the snow." It wasn't a snowman but Moana assumed that it was something along those lines. "How do you build a snowman? Can it look like any man?"

She paused when she reached the sink and dumped her fish into the metal basin. When that was done she hung up the net and began gutting and preparing the fish. It wasn't going to smell good for a few minutes but Moana was very quick to get the fish separated and the meat put off to the side.

Outside 20th

"Why would you make a ball of snow into a person?" Moana was just teasing him now, she knew what he meant and imagined that a snowman would be very dashing if it was given eyes and a mouth to make it man-like. "I've made a snowball but not a fight." She had been in water related fights that summer but it had consisted mostly of splashing.

She took a pot of water and set it over the wood burning stove to begin to boil. With the fish prepared she searched the pantry for a starch that would do well in her soup. She found potatoes and brought them over to the counter to cut.

"That sounds like it would be fun."

"I've made a shelter. Snow isn't so cold when it's all around you. Just when it's falling from the sky." Moana found it odd. The air was always freezing when it snowed and yet she had to take off her jacket last year after creating a little burrow to hide it. It had been so warm in her snow hole that she hadn't wanted to give it a roof in fear that it might melt and fall on her.

"I think you'd notice if there was a stone in a ball of snow." Since one of them was white and one was not.

With Moana's soup underway, she walked over towards Danny and lifted herself on the counter to sit. They had some time to wait before she added the fish since it would cook a lot quicker than the starch. "A snowball fight is a game?" She assumed since he said it was mostly for kids.

Moana didn't know where Sweden was but that didn't really bother her. She was used to not knowing where places were or what people were referring too. "I don't think I've heard of Sweden.

She rested her palms against the counter as she watched Danny curiously. "Do you like snowball fights?" It sounded like he did since he continued to talk about them. It was interesting. Most of the younger kids flew kites or drew on her island. They sometimes splashed each other but they didn't exactly fight.

"I don't know who Santa is." Moana replied with a shrug.

She was getting used to not knowing stuff. "That sounds like a good thing to remember. I didn't have any siblings but I grew up with the other children in my village." There were times when Moana was apart from them because she had more to learn but she still had a good time running around, listening to Grandma's stories and playing.

"We flew kites."

"It's usually sunny on my island. At least, it doesn't snow." It did rain though.

Moana pushed herself from the counter and walked over to where she had the soup. It was ready for the fish and so she slipped the chucks into the broth and seasoned it a bit more with the green herb she had found in the storage room.

"Why does he give gifts? This Santa person."
chosenbytheocean: (PB - Oh no)

"I think it's called rosemary." It wasn't natural to Moana's island but it smelled nice and the hardness of the herb would be boiled down in the soup. "It's almost done." She indicated the soup as she moved to grab two bowls from the cupboard.

"I don't understand your holiday but that's fine. I've learned that people believe different things." Moana's beliefs were tied to the planet more than they were a single deity. She believed in the gods but the gods were different aspects of the earth, sea and sky.

"That sounds like a wonderful." Moana smiled as she began to fill a bowl for Danny and then herself. She placed his on the counter in front of him before grabbing them each a spoon to eat with. Moana moved at an easy pace since the soup would have to cool off anyway.

"I like rosemary but you can't use a lot of it and if you don't cook it long enough it can get hard and stuck in your teeth." Or so Moana had found.
chosenbytheocean: (PB - that is only somewhat true)

[personal profile] chosenbytheocean 2018-01-02 03:41 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah."

Moana carefully took her bowl and followed Danny out towards a table. "Will you tell me more about your island?"

"Danny said he'd teach me how to surf in the summer." She began to eat her soup with a little smile on her lips. She loved when she was able to make foods that were familiar to her. It was like a little taste of comfort.

"There are big cities on islands too?" Up until now, Moana had been differentiating between big city and island. She never considered that the two could be combined.
chosenbytheocean: (What?)

Moana blinked. "Oh, I'm sorry. I meant Steve." She didn't know why she mixed up their names like that. Steve had been the man that she had met on the beach. "He had helped me set out for my trip a few months ago. There is a vast beach just over the breach. After the snow's gone, I plan to move over there."

She paused and took a bite of soup. "I can't imagine not living near the ocean." Her voice was a little wistful and soft. Moana has been trapped in this village for over a year and she feels the loss of her home every day that she's away from her people.

Moana's expression softened. "The ocean calls to me. It has since I was very young." There was a kindness in her voice like she was talking about a familiar friend and not a scary body of water that in a storm could topple ships.

"There are houses. There is an inn there. I'm getting things together to get it running like here. It's a little older." She's fairly sure there are holes in the roof.

"Not yet. I'm going to set up the inn and a support system like here." She paused. "After the winter. Then people can live out there too." Moana liked supporting people and she knew that she could keep a handful of people alive alone.

"I found pieces to a green house there. I don't know a lot about gardening that aren't... coconut trees."
