001: Slippery when wet

Fountain/Inn Nov -17th
The cold water comes as a shock to Danny's system. He had been... well not really safe or sound for that matter but at least warm in Colombia. The last thing he remembered was calling Grace and talking to her before the guards had caught on and dragged him outside to deliver a beating. He had blacked out in the middle of it and now he is surrounded by freezing water. He blinks and sees the light far above him. It feels too far but he has no choice but to swim for it. An eternity later he breaks the surface and gulps in cold air. He can see the edge of the pool and swims for it even as he can feel his strength leaving him by the second. He manages to pull himself out of the fountain, soaking wet and for a moment he just kneels at the side of it, looking around the area.

He wants to just lay down and rest, he feels so tired. And cold. His whole body shakes with the cold and it is hard to think and to breathe. But he sees a house with lights and he feels like he can almost feel the warmth reaching for him. He somehow manages to get to his feet and stumbles towards the inn. By the time he gets to the door, he doesn't have enough strength left to raise his hand and push the door open and instead he just collapses against it.

After he gets dragged inside and changes to warm and dry clothes he will be hiding next to the most convenient heat source until he feels human again.

Inn+Outside Until 22nd
Danny spends a lot of time at the Inn. Even days later he feels like he hasn't quite gotten warm again and he likes staying somewhere it is nice and warm. The fact that there are people here who can explain where he is and what is happening is a bonus as well. After a few days, he starts to get a little bit of cabin fever though and packs on as much clothing as he can before he sets out to explore the village and get a feel for the place.

Inn - Post Arrival

The ice storm had made a prisoner out of more than just Danny, the brunette who had arrived only a day before him, forced to stay put for longer than she was accustomed to. Of course, the matter of her busted ankle wasn’t helping much either on that front and like him? She didn’t do so well with the cabin fever. If not for the injury that was healing much slower than she was used to, Rose wouldn’t have lasted a day before she threw caution to that bitter cold wind outside.

Confined to the Inn as she’d been, she’d seen him more than once since her arrival but social and Rose didn’t always go hand in hand. Contrary to the probable beliefs of anyone who’d encountered her since she’d been brought here, she could, in fact, play well with others. Unfortunately, present circumstances weren’t putting her in the running for Miss Congeniality.

“You decide the whole, dip in a fountain during an ice storm wasn’t enough cold for you?” The Rose piping up before Danny could make it to the door.

Outside the Inn

Diana had spent a good part of her day in her kitchen making braised rabbit pies. She had used a couple of the rabbits she had snared before the weather had turned. She'd ended up making more than one pie and she knew there was no way that she wouldn't eat it all and Steve certainly wouldn't and so she decided that she could at least bring them to the inn where people might enjoy them.

And so she bundled up in her warmest clothes and wrapped up the pies and out the door she went. The weather was dreadful and halfway to the inn, she began to question her life choices but on she went. She had reached the steps to the inn just as someone was pushing to door open. "Hello! Please hold the door for me!" she called hoping that they would hear her. She didn't feel like trying to juggle the pies and get the door in the weather.

Danny has noticed her too of course and he raises an eyebrow at her when he turns.

"I wasn't planning on going for another swim if that is what you're worried about. I just want to get out and see the place. Been stuck in here for days now. Aren't you getting restless?" He is guessing she is. But he decides the outside can wait a little longer as he comes over to settle in a chair by her, leaving his coat on the back of it.

Danny blinks and holds the door open more out of habit than anything else. He had hoped the weather had died down enough for him to take a look around outside but it hasn't and more importantly, there is a gorgeous woman with amazing smelling food. He holds the door open as she comes inside and then follows her inside instead of staying outside. He sheds his coat on the back of a chair and then moves to help her with the pies. "This smells amazing, did you make it?"

Inn - November 17th

The inn was warm, the fire had been burning non-stop since the ice storm began, and Clary had claimed a spot close to the flames so she could continue wearing the black yoga pants and sports bra that she had inherited from Isabelle. It was the only clothing that she had that wasn't the black scrubs that she had woken up in and the only reminder of her absent friend. There was was a piece of paper in front of her as she sketched the different shapes and thoughts that came to mind.

She saw a flicker of moment out of the corner of her eye and looked up. Something was moving outside the window. Her shoulders tense as she placed the paper down and rose to her feet.

As she neared the window she realized that it was a man staggering towards the inn. "Oh fuck." Clary whispered as she ran to the front door. She opened the door just as Danny had fallen against it and immediately regretted that decision. It was cold as fuck outside and she was not dressed for the sudden gust of wind that accompanied the man inside.

She slipped beneath his arm while her skin prickled uncomfortably against the cold. Clary didn't have the same strength that she had at home but she was able to half carry, half drag the newcomer towards the fire. Thank the angels that the door managed to close on it's own. "Okay. I need you to say something so I know that you aren't dead." She spoke quickly against the side of Danny's head as she placed him in front of the fire.

Blankets. She needed to get him one of those damn snuggies from the inns storage.

Outside 20th

Moana had slipped out of the inn the moment that the ice storm had ended. She really hated the winter and hadn't been looking forward to the snow and ice that accompanied it. She wore shoes, remembering Rory's threat of frostbite, but otherwise wore her island dress with a cloak pulled over her shoulders. She didn't like the clothes that they were provided despite being in the village for a full year.

She caught three fish in her handmade net before heading back to the inn for the day. Her thoughts were too distracted with the promise of warmth and freshly cooked fish for her to notice Danny wandering around outside. In her haze she ran straight into his back and staggered backwards, dropping her net and fish in the process.

"Oh. Ah." He didn't look phased at all. "Sorry." She remembered seeing Danny at the inn. He had arrived a few days ago but she hadn't stopped to talk to him. "Hi." Her voice was deflated but pleasant. After a few awkward seconds of staring she turned to gather up her fish. They couldn't flop away but she didn't want to tempt fate.

nov 17 - arrival

Claire had gotten into somewhat of a schedule since arriving. Depending on the day, one could find her moving about the village from her quaint little house to the clinic that happened to be practically a stones throw. But today, even though the weather had turned into an ugly ice storm, Claire dresses up warmly and heads over to the inn.

Instead of head there first, the nurse takes a quick pass of the fountain and realises there's evidence of someone coming out of it. Brows furrow and she does a wider look to make sure the person who arrived wasn't lying somewhere in plain vie. When it didn't seem so, she followed the dragging footsteps towards the inn.

Finally seeing him slumped against the door, Claire charges over and lowers down on her knee, placing a hand on his shoulder. First things first, she needs to see if he was conscious, fading, or completely out.

Danny takes a breath when he feels some warmth against him and he almost claws at her to pull her close so he can warm up more. But soon he is placed in front of the fire and he feels better. He doesn't really process what she is saying but he feels he should say something. "Cold..." He is, so god damn cold. He tries to scoot a little closer to the fire.

Outside - Nov 20 - After the storm

The storm had been more intense than what Steve had been expecting and while he had planned for the worst, stocking up the house with wood and food, he hadn't anticipated being stuck there for days. Once things had calmed he put on the overalls and wool coat and headed into the main village.

He doesn't have a destination in mind as he's more interested in making sure that everyone else is okay and checking out any structural damage. There's not much thankfully although there are few tree limbs down and a bit of cleanup that will need to take place. When he catches a new face on a short man with blonde hair, Steve is shocked into silence for a moment.

"Danny?!"

Outside 20th

Danny's eyes go wide when he realizes what the woman who had just bumped into him was wearing. He blinks for a second and then moves to help her pick up the net. "Hi... Aren't you cold?" He moves to peel off his coat and offer it to her, she looks like she needs it more than he does.

"You look like you came straight from Hawaii."

Danny seems drowsy and his breath is slow. If she takes his pulse it is far below what is normal but he does react to pain. He even makes a soft whimper with enough pain. His clothes are soaking wet and starting to freeze solid and his hair is the same way. His skin is pale and his lips are starting to go blue.

Danny had been walking around the village for a good while and he had just started thinking about heading back to the inn when he hears a voice he knows far too well. He turns, looking around for a moment until he spots Steve and then he just runs towards him.

"Steve!"

Danny will feel a hard tug on his shoulder if he scouts too close to the fire. Getting warm was important but it was also important not to catch yourself on fire.

"That counts as talking." Relief laced through her voice as she settled him by the fire. "Stay here." Not that she thought he was going to move...

Clary stood and ran to the closest. It took her two minutes to grab two of the snuggies and bring them over to the fire. She paused before tossing them on him, watching as he shivered in front of the fire. "Okay. I'm not a pervert or anything I'm going to take off your shirt and then wrap you in blankets. Juts nod so I don't feel weird about this." She's seen plenty of guys shirtless, that part wasn't weird, the weird part was that she was the one take off his shirt.

Working at Metro gave her experience with a lot of different cases, even this level of hypothermia that was already well on its way to causing massive problems for the guy if she didn't get him inside and warmed up. It was going to be a long couple of hours.

Slipping off her peacoat, she laid it out on the snow before rolling Danny onto it. It was by no means any fullsize canvas stretcher but if she could manage to get him inside the inn then getting help bringing him closer to the fireplace would almost be enough.

After a couple of hours, Claire reaches and takes his wrist to check his vitals again. If he starts waking, he'll feel the contact, as well as the weight of a few warm blankets on him and in warm, dry clothes.

Steve grins like a madman and pulls Danny into a huge bear hug. Although he tried not to think about it, he'd missed him and he's almost thankful it's so cold outside because he can use that as an excuse for looking like he was getting emotional. Clasping Danny's biceps, Steve holds him out from him to look Danny from head to toe and back again. There are some minute differences that seem off or out of place but at the moment he can't quite put his finger on what they are... Could it be as simple as the heavy coat and almost three months he'd been away?

Then he spots the bruising still visible on Danny's face and the smile fades and anger flashes in his eyes. "What happened?"

Outside 20th

"I'm not-" Her voice cut at his question.

The cloak kept the wind off her and moving around kept Moana warm. It wasn't ideal but it kept her warm long enough to fish and return to the inn. Her fingers curled around the net, pulling it onto her shoulder before tugging her cloak a little tighter around her. At least she was wearing shoes.

"Hawaii. Owen mentioned that name." She hasn't seen Owen since she returned. She hadn't thought to check if he was still in the village. "It's the name of his islands. I'm from the island called Motunui."

He stays put while she gets the snuggies and then as she spoke he moved to help her get the wet shirt of him. There are a few faded bruises on his chest but besides that no big injuries. That is good at least. He manages to get his own pants off and soon enough he us curled up in the snuggies by the fire.

"Thank you."

It takes a good while before he finally stirs and his eyes blink open as he can feel someone touching him. "Where?" He still feels cold and his brain feels sluggish. Why is he so cold? What happened, where is he? He remembers being in some water and he sits up or at least tries to.

"What happened?"

Danny hugs him back tightly and then while Steve is looking him over he does just the same back. Steve looks different as well. "Some of the guards didn't like that I couldn't get them money. That is the last thing I remember before coming here actually."

He studies Steve for another moment. "You alright?"

Re: Outside 20th

"Yeah, it is the biggest of the islands in the state." He frowns a little. "I think I've heard that name. Though it is not in Hawaii." He looks at her and then steps to the side so she can continue and he can walk with her.

"Where are you going?"

Steve nods discarding Danny's question and worry all with that movement of his head. He's focused on Danny's face and what he's just said. That doesn't make any sense. What the hell has been happening while he was gone?!

"Guards?" Steve frowns, his eyebrows almost touching his face contorts so much. "What guards? And why did they need money?" Worry crosses his features. "Where were you before here?"

Danny looks at Steve like his partner might have hit his head. "Colombian prison, don't you remember? The guards thought I'd have money because I am American. Did you hit your head on something? " He really hopes not. He is not sure this place has the equipment needed if Steve is starting to have that big memory holes.

Eyes bulging Steve almost chokes. "COLOMBIAN PRISON?!" Looking around quickly after being startled by his own voice, Steve leans in and lowers his voice to a rushed harsh whisper. "Colombian prison?! What the hell were you doing in a Colombian prison?!" He can't see if Danny is more injured under all the clothes he starts gently patting down the other man's arms, chest and back. "Are you okay? What the hell happened? Was Wo Fat involved?"

Then suddenly the rush of words stop, as does the patting, as he looks Danny in the eyes, almost fearfully. "When are you from? Danny, what was the date?"

There is a thing, commonly referred to as Rose!Logic, where she is from. A way in which Rose could twist something into a thousand different ways until it made sense in only a way that she can comprehend. Rose!Logic in this situation was simple. If she could somehow convince Danny that exploration beyond the Inn was a terrible idea, then it would somehow make her being stuck here less awful.

Nobody ever said Rose!Logic was perfect.

“Still the matter of the wind and the rain and the ice.” Nothing that somebody who had been raised in the mountains of Montana would be worried about if not for her current predicament.

His question sees any trace of emotion leech from her features, her tone equally deadpan as she replies. “You have no idea.” With little fuss, she lifts the leg of her scrubs, revealing beneath a pair of thick, woollen socks, dark bruising and an ankle that looked twice its normal size.

Danny blinks and frowns. "It is February twenty fifteen, why do you ask?" He takes a step back and pushes Steve's hands away. "Wo Fat is dead, what are you talking about? You know why I went, you know what happened."
