[Fountain]
Mary had a very eventful couple of days. Her house had been broken into, she had been abducted and then later rescued by her brother and his partner. After she helped her brother and his Task Force out a bit, Steve had put her on a plane back to the mainland as he was convinced that she was safe to be on the island. As much as she didn't want to leave, she knew that he was right and by her not being on the island, it'd give her brother some peace of mind.
She had been in the air for about half and hour to forty-five minutes before she dozed off. Before she knew it, she was waking up underwater. Mary was taken by surprise but she feels a slight push upwards and she rights herself in the water and proceeds to swim towards the surface. Once she breaks the surface, she takes a deep breath as she treads the water, looking around to try to figure out what is going on. Did her plane crash? She looked around but she saw no evidence of such but instead she was in some sort of...fountain?
Swimming over to the side, she climbs out, brushing her now wet hair out of her face and she realizes that the bandage that was wrapped around her hand from her fight with her abductors was missing as was the one on her face. "This is some kind of weird dream right?" She said out loud, mostly to herself.
Mary takes a few minutes to look around from where she stands and she realizes that nothing looks familiar but she starts to walk towards the village. She didn't know where she was going but something told her she may be able to find some answers there.
[Village]
As she walks through the village, she has no plan in mind but she has genuine curiosity. She's still wet from the fountain but she wanders through the village, looking at the various buildings located in the village. All of the buildings look old and not the skyscrapers and built up homes and apartment buildings that she was used to at home. This village looked like something out of a history book.
As she did some exploring she figured she needed to find some help. Maybe someone could explain what was going on and point her in the direction of a telephone. If she could get in touch with her brother, he would come find her. She hiked her backpack up on her shoulder and continued her exploration through the village but now she is also on the lookout for someone who she could talk to.

It's enough for him to stop what he's doing to come closer. It's not his intention to stalk her, but she's walking away from him and by the time he catches up it could appear to be that way. "Mary?!" He calls out with a fair amount of confusion in his voice. Reaching out he touches her shoulder. "Mary? Is that really you?"
no subject
"Steve?! What are you doing here?" Mary looks him over and is relieved that he's not hurt. "Are you okay?"

Outside of being more than a little bit muddy and in need of a proper shave, Steve is completely unharmed, although aneurysm face is fully in effect. He's in the denim overalls with a the hunter green scrub shirt underneath. The canvas backpack is full over his shoulder and he holds a six-foot spear in his right hand. After a moment he reaches out with his left hand and wraps an arm around her waist, pulling her in for a tight hug.
no subject
She looks her brother over again and is happy to see that he seems unharmed even though he is wearing his aneurysm face that she knew all too well, he needed a good shave and he definitely needed a shower. When he wraps his arm around her waist, she gives him an equally tight hug. She didn't know what was going on here and she really didn't like that her big brother was here too but his presence made this a little better. Whatever was going on, at least she wasn't alone.
She pulled back and looked at her brother, her face serious. "I really don't know how I got here Steve. I promise I got on that plane! We were half way to L.A. and some how I ended up in this fountain....." She stopped, realizing just how crazy this all sounded but it was important to her that he knew she didn't skip the plane that he put her on.
no subject
Pulling her close again he gave her another tight hug before releasing her. “There’s really no answers to be had here.” At least none that Steve has found. “No idea who, why or how we came to be here. Just that newcomers arrive through the fountain from various places, times and worlds. Strange things apparently happen... Like we’re test subjects and so far there’s no way out. Some people have been here as long as a year, and people occasionally disappear.” Shrugging, he’s not sure what else he can tell her, but he’ll try to answer any questions she may have. “I’ve been here about a month.”
“The plane?” Steve’s face scrunches up in confusion as he searches his memory. Last he remembers she was a stewardess... Although it’s possible she lost that job since the last time they talked. “What plane ride are you talking about, Mary? What was the date? It was May 2012 for me.”
no subject
She gave her a brother a squeeze as he hugged her again. While she didn't know what was going on and she was confused, his presence was comforting to her. If anyone could figure this place out and get them home, it was her brother. Though she was a little concerned that he was here. If he was here, he wasn't home to realize that she had gone missing and come looking for her.
"So nobody knows why were are here or who brought us here?" Mary didn't like that answer. "We're basically someone's guinea pigs then?"
It was her turn for her forehead to crease in confusion. "A month? How is that possible Steve?! I just saw you like two hours ago when you dropped me off at the airport."
"May 2012? You're kidding right?" The more confused she got, the more frustrated she was feeling at the situation. "It's 2011. You had rescued me from the people that kidnapped me and you sent me back to the mainland because you said it would be safer for me there."
no subject
“I remember you making it back to L.A. You called to let me know. You didn’t disappear. You’ve been back to the islands since and you never mentioned anything like this.” Steve narrowed his eyes as he tried to piece things together. It didn’t make sense. “For me, you heading home was over a year ago.”
With a shrug, Steve shook his head. “That’s what people seem to think. They call those who brought us here ‘The Observers’. I’m not interested in being anyone’s guinea pig though.”
no subject
"A year ago.....none of this makes any sense, Steve." She crossed her arms over her chest as she started to feel the chill in the air and her wet clothes were not helping the situation.
"I'm not interested in being anyone's experiment either. Not unless they're going to pay me for it." She has to earn money some how. "I hate that you're here too but I'm glad you are. If anyone can figure this place out, it's you."
no subject
With a nod, he shrugs. "It doesn't. I've been here a month and I'm still trying to figure it all out. Those here have ideas, but it seems like whoever brought us here, they're not sharing much." Noticing her actions he reaches to take the knapsack from her. "Have you looked in here yet? You have dry clothes and a warm coat in there." He'd be happy to stand guard while she changed.
"Being a lab rat is no way to make extra cash." He really hoped his sister had never been desperate enough to try that, especially those with drugs involved. "As for here, I don't think we have a choice in the matter, but I do plan on getting us the hell out of here. It just might take a bit of time."
no subject
She lets Steve take the knapsack from her and she looks at it. She hadn't taken the time to rummage through it yet as she was too intent to find someone to help her. "No. I just got out of the water and started walking." She opened it and pulled the dry clothes out. She didn't really want to strip in front of her brother so she decided to just put the coat on. It was better than nothing.
"Sure it is! You have to do the bare minimum for money." She was joking, mostly, and she gave her brother a grin. She had never tried it but she had considered signing up for those drug trials to make some extra cash but she never bothered. "I know you will Steve. I can help."
She looked her brother over again. "Does this place not have a shower? You could really use one."
no subject
That she does the bare minimum for money has a quick, and some what negative, reply on his tongue but he holds it back when he sees the grin. She's teasing him. Instead of grinning back, he narrows his eyes at her but there is amusement there. Steve's not great with human to human interactions as Danny called it but at least with Mary he doesn't feel the need to try to be. Whether that makes things between them easier or harder is hard to say. "Damn right you're going to help. There's no way I'm doing all the work and allowing you to sit back and put your feet up." By the time he's done speaking the smile has spread to his lips and into the tone of his voice.
Looking down at himself he frowns, then tilts his head so his nose is in his armpit and sniffs. It's not... terrible. "What?! It's not that bad. I've been mostly roughing it in the woods and bathing in the stream near the water fall." He pauses for a moment. "is it really that bad?"
no subject
Her grin grew even wider when her brother narrowed his eyes at her. It was easy for her to get a reaction from him. Sometimes she wasn't trying to and didn't welcome the attention but she did like to tease him. She rolled her eyes playfully as he told her that he wasn't going to let her sit back while he does all the work. "I'm more of a supervisor than a do-er." She grinned.
She watched as he smelled himself. "It's bad. You need a shower and a shave as you're starting to resemble a bear." She grinned as she teased him. "And your clothes could likely use a wash."
"Of course you have. Only my brother would be kidnapped and use it as a chance to go camping! There has to be somewhere in this place that you could squat without having to camp in the woods." Mary had no intention to rough it in the woods. She would find somewhere else she could stay. She looked around at their surroundings. The one thing that was very evident to her was the lack of lighting. There was and old-timey feel to the place as well. "So this really isn't some kind of weird nightmare, is it?"
no subject
Crossing his arms across his chest he shakes his head refusing to let her get to him. "It's not that bad if you think my clothes are likely cleaner than I am!" That may not have sounded as good out-loud as it did in his head but that's not the point. Really though he could use a shower and a shave, and his clothes could use a good washing - all far more than he's been doing but at least he has been doing something.
"There are houses. Lots of houses actually in various states of repair and some people just stay at the Inn." Steve had been hoping to find a way to get out of this place and hadn't wanted to become to settled in. Mary arriving though was about to change his all that. His priorities already shifting to include her in all his plans. At her last question his uncrosses his arms and steps in to give her a, hopefully, reassuring hug. "No. I'm sorry. But you're not alone and we'll figure out a way outta here."
Fountain
Clary had been making her usual laps around the village when she had spotted the girl near the fountain. She wasn't dressed in scrubs but in black yoga pants, a purple sports bra and a pair of sneakers. Her bright orange hair had been tied back, looking like a runner through a New York City park but without the trademark Ipod.
It was wishful thinking for it to be Isabelle climbing out of the fountain but Clary had been idealistically hopeful and then realistically let down. She tried to offer the new girl a smile but it didn't exactly work. She wasn't feeling particularly happy about this place or anything in it.
"You just get here?" She asked noting that the girl was soaked from head to toe. "There are some blankets in the inn. It isn't a towel but they can dry you off."
Fountain
Mary looked the woman over. She looked friendly enough and Mary was happy to have someone to fill her in on what was going on here.
"I am." Mary squeezed the excess water out of her hair. "I was on a plane to Los Angeles but then I was in there." Mary looked at the fountain. "Where is here exactly?"
Mary was soaked from head to toe and it was only a matter of time before she got cold and at the mention of blankets, she felt goosebumps rise on her skin at the idea of warmth. "Blankets sound good right about now." She gave the woman a smile. "I'm Mary, by the way."
Fountain
"Clary. Come on. I'll see if anyone has food in the kitchen. I'd offer to cook but I really suck at it." They had to light actual fires to cook here and Clary had no idea how to do that.
"I was in New York before I arrived here."
The walk to the inn was really short. Clary jogged to the door and then pushed it open for Mary to step through. There wasn't a fire going yet but there was wood next to the fire place for anyone who wanted to start one.
Re: Fountain
"It's nice to meet you Clary, even under the circumstances." While she wasn't happy to be stuck here with no answers, she was happy to know that she wasn't alone. She laughed at her comment about her culinary skills. "Yeah, if it involves anything more complicated than making pancakes, I suck at it too."
As they walked to the inn, Mary smiled as Clary held the door open. "Thanks." She stepped in and took a look around the inn, noting the lack of modern technology. "Why does it feel like we've gone back to the medieval times?" She was exaggerating slightly, of course but the lack of computers and the having to build a fire yourself was not lost on her. She looked at the fire place. She didn't really know how to start a fire either. Her dad had tried to teach her when she was young but she never really paid attention. But it couldn't be that difficult, could it?
Fountain
"Sort of. I've been calling the town Salem in my head. It looks like they have lines to run electricity but no power. The fire in the inn will be on nonstop once it gets cold enough." She rolled her shoulder in a short shrug. "At least that's what I've been told." Clary would believe it when she saw it.
Clary didn't know how to do anything but there were a lot of people around willing to teach those who knew absolutely nothing. Clary hadn't learned from any of them yet but had produced a fairly decent map of both villages, complete with random street names and house numbers. "Kitchens through here. I think they have some fish or something. The harvest was recent so there is a lot of food that they're prepping for the winter or something. I don't know what they do but I am sure we can swipe some." It seemed like a free-for-all sort of set up though Clary assumed that was true until someone took to much or endangered everyone else's survival.
"So what do you think of your own version of the Twilight Zone." She paused. "Oh. I see berries. Let's grab some." She missed pizza.
Re: Fountain
"No electricity? Great." Mary was less than impressed. While her brother would be in his element in this place with the lack of amenities, Mary wasn't happy. "My brother would love this place. He loves roughing it." She looked at the supplies to make a fire again, wishing she had paid attention to her father trying to teach her how to build a fire.
Mary listened as Clary told her where the kitchen was. "So nobody runs the inn or the kitchen? We can just come and go as we please here?" Mary wasn't complaining but it just seemed like a very strange way of keeping people that someone had gone to the trouble of abducting.
Mary followed Clary into the kitchen and started to look around. "It's definitely something. It still feels like it's some kind of nightmare or a bad high. How long have you been here?" Mary looked over the berries. "Are we sure they're safe to eat?"
Fountain
"I hate roughing it." She had grown up in Brooklyn and while the world of Shadowhunters wasn't easy, Clary didn't consider it roughing it. "I'm used to tall buildings and a lot of concrete." Thinking of brothers brought Jace to mind. Clary knew that she shouldn't think of him. There was nothing that she could do here but that discomfort continued to follow her.
"Not officially. A woman named Kate does the upkeep though. She's busy so I only see her at the lunch meals when she sets up the food. A lot of people pitch in to help but she's the one I see always cleaning and fixing things up around here." Clary rolled her shoulders. "We can't exactly leave this canyon. There is the section that leads to the beach but otherwise we're stuck here and everyone ends up back at the inn."
She paused by a bulletin board. "You can check this out later but people put up stuff here about things that have happened. This is sort of an on going thing." Clary wasn't particularly amused by it and continued into the kitchen. Someone had made soup and left what was left on the stove top but Clary wasn't interested in eating more soup. "That soup there is probably up for grabs. You want a bowl? You have to clean the dish but I can grab you some water from outside since you're new."
She popped a berry into her mouth, smiled, and passed them over to Mary. They were blueberries and raspberries. "Yes. I've been here a few months." Her introduction to the small Twilight Zone town wasn't too bad because she had had a friend here. Isabelle was gone now but it made it a little easier for Clary to adjust.
"Oh, you can pick an empty room if you want a place to sleep. If that freaks you out I have an empty bed in my room. It's two people per room."
.village.
The weariness in their eyes, the confusion and fear that always lingers beneath the surface .. Ned cannot help but find it a bit upsetting.
When he sees the golden-haired woman trekking about the village the way a foreigner would do in a new land, he makes himself known and approaches with some volume in his step, announcing himself that way as opposed to utilizing his voice to do so. He finds that giving fair warning to the person of his presence tends to minimize the risk of attack or violent reaction due to being startled. Once he comes out into the clearing where he's found her, he stays a respectable distance away from her - present, but not intrusive.
Instead of his usual white scrubs, he has recently been gifted clothes from home, which is what he wears now. Still, even with the leather and protection, it is clear that the man is unarmed and, with a soft expression, intends no harm.
"You appear lost or in search of something - or someone. Might I be of assistance?"
.village.
When she saw Ned, she looked his attire over from head to toe. It was definitely not something she was used to seeing. But while his clothes gave the impression that one should be weary around him, the man held himself with ease and Mary didn't think that he was going to cause her harm.
"I am lost." Mary gave a small smile. "I was on a plane back to the mainland and then I woke up in the fountain." Mary frowned, shaking her head slightly. All of this sounded even more crazy as she said it out loud. "I don't know where I am or why I'm here. Maybe my plane crashed?" Surely she wouldn't have slept through her plane crashing.....
no subject
He shakes his head a bit, taking a step forward.
"Forgive me, but I've not heard of such a thing before - is it a method of transportation? Similar to that of a horse or carriage?" There's a pause before he continues, "Perhaps it matters not, what a plane is. What matters is that you have wound up here. I am afraid you're in a village without a name, and I have even fewer answers as to why you might be here with the rest of us. We have yet to discern a pattern for each arrival. But, if you would like, I can lead you to the Inn at the center of town, get for you a meal and some drink, and try to answer whatever questions you may have - even if said answers are rather scarce."
no subject
As Ned told her that she's in an unknown village and nobody knew why or how people came to find this place, she frowned. If nobody knew where they were, what were the chances that they'd be rescued.
Mary shivered in her still wet clothes. Being inside and food sounded really good right about now. "As long as it doesn't put you out, that'd be great." Mary smiled at the man. "I'm Mary."
no subject
"No, no, not at all. I would be happy to. There is a sort of barter system in place here, as none of us have coin with which to pay. So you are able to take what you might need from the food stores, so long as you replenish once you've established yourself enough to do so." At her introduction, Ned bows his head. Had she been a man, he would have reached for just below the elbow, gripping lightly: a standard greeting for the men of Westeros. Seeing as she's a woman, he instead shows his respect with a bow of his head. "Mary, it is a pleasure. I am Eddard Stark, though most call me Ned. The choice is yours. If you will," he starts, turning to lead them back to the direction of the center of town. "We are not far from the Inn."
no subject
"So we have to grow and catch our own food here?" If that was the case, she was royally screwed. Mary had no idea how to do either.
"It's nice to meet yo Ned." Was it rude to ask someone what century they're from? It was clear to her that Ned wasn't from hers. She followed Ned in the direction of the inn. "How long have you been here?"
no subject
"Yes, if you can. There are many here who are willing to assist newcomers in so far as helping to feed and helping to teach." He glances at her with a curious perk of his brow. "I take it you are not familiar with either practice? I am afraid that my knowledge of growing crops and tilling land is not very extensive, but I have hunted quite a bit in my day. I would be glad to offer whatever services I can to ensure your survival here."
He clasps his hand behind his back as they walk - his pace set, but not rigid or overly exerting. He isn't sure of her level of hunger or exhaustion, so he walks with purpose but not as though there is a fire to extinguish.
"It is hard to track the days, but if my generalization is correct, I have been here for seven months. It somehow feels both longer and shorter than that amount, when I think back on everything that has happened."
