12 Building A Boat~! [OPEN MINGLE]
WHO: Moana
WHERE: 7i Beach Area [Also around the 7i Boat House & Town looking for stuff]
WHEN: Month of September
OPEN TO: EVERYONE [Feel free to make top posts if you'd like as well. Moana will hit everyone up but this is open to whatever people want.]
WARNINGS: None

Throughout the month, Moana was at the beachfront assembling different parts of a boat. She had the design sketched on few pieces of paper though the sketches were not very good.
She had spoken to a lot of people about building a boat and will accept everyone's help with its construction. They needed pieces of wood, someone to build the hull, stronger materials for the sail, which meant that Moana was back to collecting reeds and stalks that wouldn't absorb the water as it sprayed up from the ocean. She really needed a better drawing of the boat and its design, even if she was bad at trying to explain what she wanted to build. The hull needed to be shaped from a single piece of wood to avoid leaks. As well as the side-canoe that would help keep the craft balanced on rocky waves.
Everything had to be collected from the new parts of the island since it would take too much effort and time to try to carry all the pieces through the now small breach between the canyon walls. When Moana wasn't working the boat she'd watch others work and encourage those around her to join. It was something like an event. If there were enough people come night fall Moana would start a large bone fire and cook fish. She would welcome others to lend a hand in any part of any process. Much like her home, she wanted to build a community of people working together and helping.
She could be spotted around the 7i boathouse looking for any useful materials, as well as rummaging through the other houses on the way back to the beach. She also brought a handful of tools from the inn, including a grappling hook that she had found in the inn's storage closet. Moana wasn't sure how anyone might use it but it looked useful enough to take with her.

Moana had no idea how the one armed soldier would take it.
"Yes. I'll be gone for only a few days." It would be closer to two weeks but Moana wasn't sure yet. It depended on food and the conditions of the water.
"A lot of people are helping me get it together."

“Well, if you’re gonna be going out there, then I’d say help is good. Gotta make sure you can make it back in one piece, right? Or anywhere, really.” He took the time then to look over the work in progress before looking back toward Moana. “Have you built a boat before?”
no subject
"No but I've repaired boats before. Owen is making the two canoes and Killian is making the rigging for the sail." She had weaved the sail herself, using thick pieces of grass. It was similar to her skirts and was useful since it wouldn't absorb the salt spray of water that would arise from the ocean.
"Have you built a boat before?"

“Can’t say that I have, really. Not unless you count the ones I folded outta newspapers when I was a kid.” He offered a mild smile at that, meaning it more as joke than anything serious. “Saw ’em being repaired at the docks, though. When I used to get work there. Back in New York, I mean.”

She looked around behind her to find the collection of papers that had her boat designs. "I have it here somewhere."

“They were huge ships. Some of them metal. Were kinda scary sometimes, coming into port.”

She flipped through the first two pages, which were specific designs pertaining to the hulls and sail of the boat, before stopping at the third drawing. It was a simple design, based on the boats from Moana's island. There was a canoe, a gridded portion, a smaller canoe to help balance the craft and then the sail.
"Here." She turned the paper so he could see. "How does a metal ship float?" She made a face at him, unable to imagine that metal would ever float.

“Uh,” he started, trying to find his place mentally again to answer her query. “Like how a coconut floats. You have coconuts where you’re from, right?”
It was a legitimate concern when so much else was unheard of in Moana’s experience.

"You mean that it's like the fibers? So tightly woven together that its able to float?" She could understand it but she couldn't really explain it since she had no idea how to explain water density and viscosity.
"That makes sense." She's pretty sure that makes sense.
