It's only been a week since Nida's been back, and while Billy's tried to not be suffocating, a good bit of his focus has been spent on his boyfriend. But that can't last forever--he's promised he'd be better about balance, and now that he's all recovered from last month's adventures he's thrown himself full force into training. At least a few hours every day you'll find Billy at the dojo, training with Nida or Jason or seeing if anyone around wants to practice hand-to-hand or staff fighting; every other morning he goes running along the East-West road with his twin, though it's not rare for Tommy to outpace him. He's not going to be helpless ever again, if he can help it, and all the working out helps with the nervous energy. When he's not doing those things, you might catch him in the forest off to the east, foraging in the new plant growth, or in the schoolhouse, organizing the shelves and singing quietly to himself. All in all, he's found a good rhythm to settle into, and he's trying not to let himself think about how things could go wrong any day now.
March 29, Hawke
That any day now comes just a few days later. Billy's on his way to the dojo just after dawn one morning when he sees a familiar figure appear in the road ahead of him. A smile breaks over his face as he offers a wave. "Hey, Jason, what's up? Couldn't sleep? We could..." The words trail off as he gets close enough to see the look on Jason's face, that wild, hunted look he hasn't seen since January on the mountain. Maybe not even then. This is different. This is...
His feet stop finally, stumbling to a halt and shifting almost automatically into a defensive posture, his staff half raised in a guard before he even realizes what he's doing. That look on Jason's face has shifted into something ugly and cold, something violent, and it's too late to run. All he can do is hope someone hears the noise and comes along to help before he gets himself killed, because he's in way over his head. Is this mind control?
"Jason, stop! I don't want to hurt you!"
March 29, Jason, private voice
Dude, what the hell? Where are you??
private voice right back
Decided to hop a last-minute train to Memphis. Where’re you?
no subject
[Billy sounds kind of winded and entirely serious.]
I just fought another you. At least I hope it was another you, because otherwise, I'm gonna be pissed.
no subject
It wasn't me. I've been home all day - what do you mean you fought another me? What happened?
no subject
[Sorry, Jason, you know the banter is a stress reaction.]
I was heading towards the dojo. Thought I saw you coming out of it. Then the you I saw attacked me. I managed to hold my own until someone else showed up to help him, I don't know her. A small, blonde, angry-looking lady? Anyway, when she started coming at me I ran. Ended up running into Hawke, and we teamed up to fight them.
I didn't think it was you, he didn't say anything the entire time we were fighting, but there's been a lot of weird shit lately, so I wasn't sure.
Are you okay? Nothing weird on your end? At all?
no subject
[yeah, jason knows all about the benefits of banter.]
Second clue would be when you beat him. You’re doing pretty good in training, but you’re not that good - yet.
[billy’s learning and picking up what jason’s been teaching, but jason still has many years of training with masters and experience in the field. in a pure hand-to-hand fight against billy, jason would still bet on himself.]
Yeah, I’m OK. Nothing weirder than the usual for me - what about you? Are you OK?
no subject
[He's not an idiot, he'd figured something was up. He just wasn't sure if it was Jason getting pod peopled or something else. And while he sounds out of breath, otherwise, he sounds pretty good.]
Yeah, yeah I'm fine. I was with Hawke, and we did that team-up, combined-powers thing. It helped that I'd seen what green and blue did before, that's what Peggy and I were when we were out in the woods fighting that wendigo I told you about before? So I already sort of knew how to strategize. I'm a little bruised but okay.
[Thanks in no small part to all the training with Jason and Nida.]

Sure, if you want. I mean, it's just a few scrapes and bruises.
[But it'd be nice to be sure Jason's actually Jason, too.]
Meet you at your place?
no subject
[because even though it wasn’t really him fighting billy, guilt sure still is a thing.]
Yeah, come on over. I’ll be here.
schoolhouse
"Billy!" She speed walks over like he's actually going to go somewhere. Kamala is dramatic as always. "Find anything cool? I'm in the mood to make all the funny voices tonight."
no subject
"Hey, Kam," he answers just as cheerfully, a laugh in his voice to match the smile on his face as he turns to say hello. Things have been pretty okay the last week or so, he's in a good mood. "I don't know if I've found anything that's patented funny voice-worthy, but I did find this book of really, really weird recipes. Two words: mayonnaise loaf." He lifts his eyebrows at her, holding the book in one hand and waggling it. Come on, Kam, you know your interest is piqued.
