Anne had gotten the box earlier in the week, and while there were not any actual instructions included, it was pretty clear what the items were intended for. Name tags, cards, the candies, hell - a whole supply of contraceptives - the only logical conclusion was some sort of dating event. Apropos as they were just a day over her world's Valentine's Day, to boot. She appreciated the distraction putting together something like this would provide.
One additional request needed to be made, considering her idea on formatting the evening, and that was for a brass bell from Tony's forge.
She arrives at the Inn early to set up; moving tables aside and setting it up for a couple rows of two-person seating, and setting out mugs on each table full of conversation hearts. She pulls one table up by the front where she gathers sign-in materials; name tags, metallic sharpies, little info cards and pens ... she also gets two large bowls and fills them with the condoms and diaphragms; might as well make them accessible.
The index cards she fills out with questions that she thinks will be relevant, puts an announcement, and fusses with a few last minute touches.

Hello, my name is: Alistair
Name: Alistair
I've lived in the village for: Just over a month, I think.
My Idea Of Romance Is: Probably silly. Bad jokes, flowers, kindness, long talks, gentleness.
My thoughts on pets are: I prefer not-dogs if there are going to be pets.
My favorite place in the village is: I don't know yet.
One thing I miss from home is: Not very bloody much. I kind of miss hearing some of the hymns sometimes.
I am looking for:

Hello, My name is Awkward Fail
Yeah, I get it. Apologize.
With a sigh Reeve sits down and doesn't look right at Alistair. Doesn't even put his card on the table yet.
"This is likely not the appropriate time to do so, but I ask your forgiveness. I pressed more than I should have, I failed to speak to the faith I had in you, and let my concern get the better of me. I would like to blame it on the fact that I spent several days operating under a different colored device, which seems to have had some impacts on my core personality. But the truth of the matter is that such behavior might have been slightly altered, but the sentiments behind them were my own. I was concerned for you, and I expressed it in a way that was inappropriate and hurtful to you. I understand you have no reason or need to forgive me, but I ask that you consider it anyway, for I truly do wish to be your friend."
There. With all of that out, in a practical rush of speech, Reeve finally looks up, meeting Alistair's... Well, not his eyes. He's still too self-conscious for that. But he does at least get his eyes up as far as Alistair's neck. So it's progress in the face of his shame. Especially considering his knee-jerk reaction to the whole thing had been to flee south for a few days.

He smiled at Alistair and leaned in to read his card, curiously. "You don't like dogs, my friend? Alas." Leonardo quirked a finger at him, leaning in playfully as if he was telling a secret. "I prefer cats myself, outside of knocking everything off of my work table." He had no pets of his own, of course, mostly for that reason. He leaned back in the chair. "Oh, and birds. I love birds."
He frowned at the card. "What does friends and that symbol mean?" To the +.

She looked at the card and chuckled. "Your idea of romance might very well be the sweetest thing I've read, Alistair." It wasn't a bad thing, but as far from her concept of sex there was. Romance? Well, she was still wounded about that, underneath all the bluster, but it wouldn't show.

"I believe I'm understanding that particular identification correctly, but I don't suppose you'd be willing to help me with the finer details? They aren't terms that are terribly commonplace, back home."
The concepts are, if she's understanding correctly. But the terms themselves are mostly only as understandable as they are thanks to her having a passing understanding of the components to those particular words.

He does chuckle as he puts aside Reyes's card, and offers his hand across the table. "Reeve, as the name tag says. I've got to ask, what constitutes an 'adventure' in your books?"
At least he dressed up in his 'nice' clothes today. Which in this case is a nice pair of jeans and, well... the shirt isn't as nice, but at least it makes him look more approachable than a scrubs top does.
His own card, of course, he has already passed over to Reyes.

She playfully nudges his foot with hers under the table, because she is incapable of not flirting and messing with him while doing it. "I'm afraid you filled this out wrong, Sirrah Vidal, four things are an unacceptable answer to this question. You have to pick one."

Maybe doing something stupid was the kick in the pants she needed.
Maybe doing something halfway normal was the answer.
Or maybe it was a big mistake.
There were a lot of maybes in the scenario, with left her closing off her posture, gripping her stupid card tightly against her chest as she took a seat at the first empty spot she saw.
It didn't occur to her to say something clever like 'hello.'

"Well? Anything promising yet?" she asks, fiddling with her own tag and trying to keep it on somewhat straight. She does hope it goes with the mildly embarrassed flush she's had all night, indicative that she's never done something like this before.

Rosa generally doesn't go for the charismatic sweet talker. She generally thinks they're sleezeballs, but not in the good way. Like The Vulture's a dick, yet she'd still bone him if it came up. The Sham Wow Guy? Total creep and probably has lampshades made of human skin in his basement, but she'd bone him, too, just not around the lampshades. She's only gone after the more charming people when it comes to dating women, but with men, she's got a Type, and this dude is not it at all.
Still, she's .. intrigued. She folds her arms across her chest and leans back in her chair to consider him.
"So, you wanna do this, or what?"

"I can always respect a woman who is very clear about what she wants," Reeve mused as he reached out for a candy and rolled it over his fingers. "If I have to ask, what sort of pet did you have? You strike me as... a dog person."
Perhaps he's not as straight-forward as she is. A few days ago he might have been. Right now he was more interested in playing at conversation for a moment.

Post Event Mingling - All Those Lovely Rotators... | OTA
He settles down with a cup of tea and his card still twirling through his fingers, because frankly, it's a bit strange to have it. The name tag he was used to. Back home he had a nice brass-plated one for when he was at official gatherings like this, just in case people didn't recognize his face. But for now, though, he was happy to sit and wave down anyone who might look interesting to talk to.

It feels almost strange, talking to her in such an aggressively normal environment compared to the hike back from the shrine -- no longer exhausted camping in an unfriendly and alien wilderness, snuggling close for warmth despite the fact that they didn't know each other at all beforehand, that they were total strangers to each other. They are friends of some sort, now, though he can't quite define what that is.
"And you didn't put yourself down at a table?" he asks. Gently teasing. "Seems unfair, that the rest of us should have all the fun."
