OPEN TO: residents of house six, assorted cr of Kamala and the other house six residents - basically everyone who knows Kamala, Frank, and Jessica and is on good terms with them. It's basically everyone.
WARNINGS: Possible mentions of horror settings or past trauma since Kamala does live with Frank Castle and Jessica Jones who are their own warning. Honestly this is a rated G birthday log.

She wakes up super stoked to be alive. It's not unusual for her honestly. Kamala is more excited than usual if only because it's not every day you get superheroes coming over for your birthday. Granted she's seeing them more as ordinary people who do incredible things sometimes. That's a positive change as far as she's concerned. It doesn't change the fact that Kamala from like age seven and up would have seen this as a dream come true. Who is she to question the wisdom of tiny Kamala?

She spends a decent portion of the day (following breakfast) getting ready for guests. She styles her new, shorter hair cut as elegantly as she can, dresses in the hunter green dress and pants outfit given to her by the Observers because screw them it's pretty and they can't ruin it with what they pulled after.

By the time she finishes, it's time to greet guests and see what Frank's done with the rest of the house while she's been hiding out in her room to obsess over her appearance. She'll go around greeting whoever shows up, shoving food at them, and generally be grateful they came. It's her seventeenth birthday. She's away from her home, childhood friends, and family. Having anyone here today means a lot more than she lets on. It's about the only thing allowing her to feel happiness instead dwelling on what she's missing.

"I wouldn't miss it," Karen replies, and slides a fond look over to Kamala. "Happy birthday. And you know, I have a feeling babysitting wouldn't help. But if you were ever in doubt of how much Frank loves you, all you have to do is look around," she adds with a gesture to the room at large.

Not that it's something anybody could ever miss regardless.

She looks around and can't help laughing joyfully at it. The whole house is basically one long testament to how much he cares for her. Kamala knows she's lucky. There's probably a thousand reasons why the two of them should have never gotten along much less become family to one another and yet here they are.

"I don't think I could ever doubt how he feels. Frank's so extra about everything which you probably figured out ages ago. He's like the definition of go big or go home."

Karen laughs at that, shaking her head. "I was going to say 'you have no idea,' but you actually do," she says, suddenly and impossibly glad that if Frank has to be extra about something, it's this, and not the demons that have plagued him for so long.

"Did you get any really good presents?"

Kamala definitely prefers this to writing long how-to survival guides or running a town. Definitely the murder too even if that's way before her time.

It's clear from the way she manages to light up even further Karen has asked the right question. She rambles passionately about it at the first chance given. "All I got were great presents! Okay some highlights were definitely the princess dress, princess flower crown, that cool necklace... and I'm just naming everything now. The important thing to note here is that my dream of looking like a fairytale princess has definitely come true and no one better judge me when I unironically wear it to the next creepy party." She tacks on. "Also I have really awesome people in my life, but I already knew that so maybe they're just super capable too? Like so capable. You have no idea how much I hurt myself making Frank's birthday gift. I don't know how they pulled this off!"

"He always finds a way," Karen replies with a faint laugh. "And who would judge you? Apart from the fact that we have people here who are, like, elves and made of plants, if anybody acted like they were judging your princess ensemble, it would only be because they wish they were in a princess ensemble. That's just common knowledge."

Kamala blinks as she realizes the other woman has a point. They are in the one place no one can really comment about how eccentric she is. She can fangirl about fantasy and superheroes to her heart's delight. "You're right, Karen. It's actually impossible for anyone to get judgy here without coming off as the world's biggest jerk. We're basically in a fantasy novel complete with mysterious powers-that-be!" She sighs happily. "Sometimes this place is really awesome." She really does find the good in everything. It's a gift.
