WHO: Kamala Khan
WHERE: House 6
WHEN: Dec. 13th; late afternoon aka KAMALA'S BIRTHDAY PARTY
OPEN TO: residents of house six, assorted cr of Kamala and the other house six residents - basically everyone who knows Kamala, Frank, and Jessica and is on good terms with them. It's basically everyone.
WARNINGS: Possible mentions of horror settings or past trauma since Kamala does live with Frank Castle and Jessica Jones who are their own warning. Honestly this is a rated G birthday log.

She wakes up super stoked to be alive. It's not unusual for her honestly. Kamala is more excited than usual if only because it's not every day you get superheroes coming over for your birthday. Granted she's seeing them more as ordinary people who do incredible things sometimes. That's a positive change as far as she's concerned. It doesn't change the fact that Kamala from like age seven and up would have seen this as a dream come true. Who is she to question the wisdom of tiny Kamala?

She spends a decent portion of the day (following breakfast) getting ready for guests. She styles her new, shorter hair cut as elegantly as she can, dresses in the hunter green dress and pants outfit given to her by the Observers because screw them it's pretty and they can't ruin it with what they pulled after.

By the time she finishes, it's time to greet guests and see what Frank's done with the rest of the house while she's been hiding out in her room to obsess over her appearance. She'll go around greeting whoever shows up, shoving food at them, and generally be grateful they came. It's her seventeenth birthday. She's away from her home, childhood friends, and family. Having anyone here today means a lot more than she lets on. It's about the only thing allowing her to feel happiness instead dwelling on what she's missing.

[She's definitely too old for this. Kamala is also too old to scream about cute things too. In the end, the advice she got on that post is pretty real. Being an adult or getting close to it legally speaking is what she makes of it. Instead of asserting what a grown up she is, Kamala just laughs in pure delight and waits for him to set her back down. This is fun. She's so happy right now that she can feel tears prick her eyes.]

[ frank kisses her forehead with a cartoony smack before letting her down to be with her baby, smiling softly though he doesn't even notice how goofy he's being. it's only after he sets her down that he sees the tears in her eyes, which instantly inspires tears to prick at his eyes. god, kamala, why. ]

Happy Birthday, sweetheart. [ his voice totally didn't tremble!!!!! shut up!!!!!! ]

[Kamala wastes no time racing over because baby!!!! This poor creature is going to be as spoiled as the kitten in their care. Those glassy eyes aren't going away because it's really hitting her how perfect today is despite every reason it shouldn't. When she looks up, she has to laugh. There's Frank getting as emotional as she is.] Thanks, Frank. Do you need another hug?

[Real question! She has plenty to spare.]

[ how could he not get emotional on a day like today? ]

Like you have to ask. [ fair warning the second she does the floodgates will open. ]

[It's okay. When Kamala leaves her baby alone long enough to hug him, she's crying too. They're happy tears though. She's so grateful to him.] I really appreciate all of this.

[Because he needs to know that even if the crying does confuse the message.]

[ he's happy too. and sad. she's growing into this amazing person before his eyes and he knows, he does know, that she's not his daughter. that she has her real family waiting for her. but his family is gone, his little girl would be her age today too so it's hard not to feel like he's hugging lisa at the same time. he's making a mess of her perfect hairstyle and he feels bad about it but he can't stop now. ]

Come on, you know I had to go all out for your birthday.

[Kamala knows without being told how complicated all of this must be for Frank. It's why she always appreciates these gestures. She knows this must bring up a lot of feelings that are good, bad, and downright confusing. He always comes through. She pulls back enough to wipe her eyes and offer a reassuring smile.] Yeah, I know. It still means a lot to me. Today could have totally sucked if you weren't around to make this happen.

[She knows herself too. She'd have been too depressed to get out of bed much less throw a party.]

[ he squeezes her arm gently as he forces himself to pull back, wiping his eyes on his sleeve too. ]

Anything for you, sweetheart, you know that.

Yeah.... yeah I do. [Which can be scary in a way. She's positive he'd cross lines she'd never dare for her sake. Today Kamala is determined to focus on the positive. While she loves this, she wouldn't mind a second of just them.] Want to eat cake while I cuddle my new baby?

[ it's not like he can change who he is. he lets her fight her own battles, but if someone ever truly meant her harm he'd put them in the ground, no questions asked. it's just the way he's wired. her question scares up a grin though. ]

'Course I do.

[She grins right back at them like a true partner in crime. Really it's pretty accurate despite the fact they're so wholesome together.] I'll show them around while you secure the cake?

[Kamala doesn't wait for a reply. She just runs off with baby in tow and trusts him to take care of his end.]

[ he meets her outside with a plate of cake for each of them not too long after, and of course accompanying coffee. they can sit on the back steps and watch the animals. ]

Everything to your standard, Birthday Girl?

[Kamala is watching the lamb wander over to the other animals when Frank approaches. She accepts the coffee and cake with a soft thank you. She settles in to eat and watch the kids as it were.] Today's been great. Everyone agrees about that too. I think everyone I talked to gave me a speech about how great you were for doing this for me.

Yeah, well. Sorry if it's a little over the top.

[ like she's not used to his antics by now. ]

Uh-huh. Like you're not the definition of extra. [Kamala teases between her sips of coffee.] I love it because it's the most over the top Frank thing I've ever seen.

[ he shoots her an offended look - or starts to before it melts into a knowing smile. yeah OK he knows he's dramatic. don't rub it in!! ]

I dunno what you're actually comparing this to, but I had to go all for seventeen.

[ she may not think it's a big deal, but it's obvious he does. ]

[Safe to say he has her interest. Kamala leans in like he's hiding something from her.] Pretty much everything, but really? Is seventeen a big year? No one was ever able to answer that!

[ frank smiles softly, having expected more or less that reaction exactly. he answers back like it's just between them, as well. ]

It's your last year before that Adulting thing happens. I'd say it's pretty damn big.

Oh... right. [Kamala frowns deeply. That just gives her new things to worry about. She figures now is the time to ask.] If we're still here a year from now, you're not going to make me move out or get married, right? Mostly the moving out part since there are no Muslim boys for me to marry here anyways and that's not really how you roll in general.

[ oh my god he might cry again. or laugh. he ends up just knocking his shoulder against hers gently and shaking his head as he bites into the cake. not bad, considering (yes, that's the first time he tasted it.) he really needs to chill tf out. ]

You sure you can deal with another year of living with me? We'll probably be up to our necks in dogs by then.

[ it's definitely a 'no' he would never make her move out. but she'd initially moved in because she felt safe with him. she's carving her own place for herself here and he'd never begrudge her that either. ]

[Kamala laughs because she can see it. She thinks the only thing that will slow down their pet adoptions is the lack of space. That's fine by her along with his answer. She can't be sure he'll want to do that American thing where they kick out their kids at eighteen. If she has to be away another year, she wants it to be with him.] Are you kidding? I'm living out my dog owner fantasies here! Nina even started doing morning prayers with me.

[She can stretch out with the best of them!!!]

It's too bad we don't have that snap thing here, huh?

I know! We'd be snapchat famous here! Plus I could save it to my memories and show the little old ladies at the mosque. You know they'd go crazy for a Muslim kitten!

[Kamala huffs loudly.] But, I guess it's better than having Snapchat at a bad place. I still can't believe I got it made in Reims.

Yeah, well. I still can't believe a lot of things about what happened there.

[ soft as he reaches for his coffee and takes a long sip to steady himself. ]

[She watches him sadly. Okay maybe this wasn't the time or place to even allude to Reims. Kamala rests her head against that giant arm of his in support and apology.] We've come a long way since then. Cute animals, a safe place to sleep, and a house filled with friends... I guess things really do turn around if you give them enough time.

[She thinks she truly is happy even if it'd be nice to be with her family now.]
