››› HIDING OUT IN HOUSE #14 — open to all
[ So, did anyone happen to witness the skinny, scrawny guy who'd been thrashing about in the fountain a couple of days ago? Burst through the surface of the water with a gasping, wheezing splutter and clambered over the edge like he was trying to scale a huge wall, and landed with a sprawling wet splat onto the dusty ground. Then promptly scrambled onto his hands and knees and puked his guts up (from water inhalation or from breathless panic, it's hard to say).
Well. If anyone did witness that, or if they witnessed a bewildered and terrified young dude scurrying through the dirt streets in soggy, light grey scrubs, they might have seen him darting frantic looks all around him for somewhere to hide before making a beeline for a house that appeared empty. Lucky for Jesse, it was: #14; the yellow house with the red trim. Right by the police station. Because nobody would be dumb enough to want to live in a house right by a police station, especially the likes of people like Jesse Pinkman, but blind panic will make a person not think too rationally about these things in times of distress.
A couple of days have passed since. Jesse hasn't emerged. He really hasn't eaten. Hasn't showered. Hasn't dared to venture out yet into this strange, new world he's found himself in. He's too bewildered and scared out of his wits to right now. But if anyone passes the house, they might see a face hovering at the window from between the curtains with wide eyes and a spooked out expression exactly like this. (OOC: cw for drug use in video.) Maybe a neighbour would like to check in on him? Or a curious passerby? Or someone who witnessed this skinny little manchild arriving in the fountain? ]

››› DOWN BY THE RIVER — open to all
[ How many days have passed now? Three? In a fit of hunger and realised dread that he ain't going anywhere if he doesn't leave this house to find a way out of here, Jesse has finally emerged from the house. Burst out the front door, runs down the steps, goes running for his life down the main street with scrawny legs and arms pumping and eyes wide with terror. He doesn't know where he's going, but soon enough, he's approaching a river. And god, even though adrenalin has him running with the speed of a startled and spooked animal, his smoker lungs can barely manage. So, he comes skidding to a stop by the river, panting, wheezing, sweating, and bends over double with his hands on his knees while choking out a gnarly smoker cough.
Movement in the water suddenly. Jesse freezes, despite being mid-cough. And then— ]
Aaa-aaahhh, Jesus! Jesus, wh-what the fuck—?!
[ Jesse's broken shout of surprise echoes across the river, and probably carries a little up towards the village, as he goes stumbling backwards, sprawling onto his ass. A reptilian-looking thing is scurrying out of the water towards him with the enthusiasm of a friendly dog. Jesse's feet dig into the ground as he frantically scrambles backwards from it, shrieking in terror. ]

[ If there is something specific you would like to do, feel free to post up a starter! I'm still acquainting myself with the game setting etc., so tossing a random scenario at me would be a useful way for me to learn more about the game. Send me a PM if you want to discuss anything beforehand! ]

[ That voice comes from a tree several yards away, and a good yard up. Steph spends most of her waking hours in trees these days, which is why she has fingerless gloves on in addition to her overalls and black scrub shirt. Now she hops down, barely taking the time to grab branches on the way. ]
They're friendly, even if they are freakin' weird.

Wh-What the hell is that thing, yo?!
no subject
I dunno, it probably has a name but I was mostly looking for what animals were dangerous. If I had to guess I'd say cross between an alligator and... a dog? I'm thinking canine, just from the paws.
no subject
A canine. An alligator-canine. Jesus, look at those fucking teeth?! Oh god, though. Jesse is still so breathless. His lungs are burning from running. His heart is pounding so hard, he can't seem to catch his breath, either. Jesse winds doubling over again, hands braced on his knees, choking back the urge to hack out a violent smoker's cough. ]
A-Are you— [ gasping, gulping ] —Are you shittin' me?! Wha-What, those things're—? [ Forcing himself to straighten up. He gestures a shaky hand at the croc-dog thing. ] What, are they, like... Like, everywhere?!

It came from the water, so it's at least semi-aquatic. Probably they only hang around the river. I think one of the guys around town has one for a pet.

House #14
Over the course of the day, he makes sure to be seen around the house, talking to other people in front of the inn in clear view of the windows. Making sure the kid sees that the Bull isn't a threat. At least not a big one.
He gives it the rest of the day and then lets the kid sleep on it before he packs up some food and a spare blanket and makes his way over there, knocking gently on the door. ]
Hey, brought some food if you're hungry.
NO PROBS i should've added to that permission post that i match ppl's preferred log styles whoops
Of course, Jesse hasn't done a whole lot of sleeping since winding up in this place. He's barely slept at all, really. He's exhausted. He's terribly homesick. He misses Jane like he's missing a huge part of himself. And he wishes, despite wanting to hate the hell out of him, that Mr. White was here to tell him what to do. How to handle all of this. Mr. White would know what to do. He always knows what to do, in some way or another. In between staring out the window, Jesse has done a lot of pacing inside the house. Nervous, restless pacing. Biting his fingernails. Fiddling with things. Wishing to god he had cigarettes, something to channel his nerves and terror and homesickness into.
He's pacing inside the house now, actually. Biting his fingernails. The sudden knock on his front door has him freezing on the spot, eyes going wide. He holds his breath, and waits. Swallows. Maybe it's that girl he met down by the river? Yeah. Maybe. That has him slowly approaching the door, and sloooowly opening it ajar enough to peek out. And—
Oh... my... god...
Jesse stares up at the bull thing, agape. Compared to bull thing? Jesse is tiny. Five-foot-eight, a hundred and fifty pounds of skin and bone. A tiny runt of a dude next to— this thing.
The words that come out of bull thing's mouth very nearly rebound off Jesse's ears out of sheer overwhelmed terror. ]
Uhhh.... [ Jesse shifts on the spot, shrunken in on himself while peering through the crack of the door. ] Uhhh. I. Um. I-I... I'm. [ An audible gulp. ] ...H-Hi?
no subject
Hi there. I'm the Iron Bull. There is some fresh bread in there and some cheese. There is hot food in the inn if you want that.
[ He points to where the inn is and make sure to keep his voice calm and the speech slow. He gives Jesse another smile, a soft gentle one. He's seen others like this, not since he came here but in his life before this. And for a moment all he wants to do is keep the kid safe. ]
It's ok, I don't mean any harm. You in there alone?
no subject
Uh... [ 'Uhhh' seems be the only vaguely coherent noise Jesshe can make while his brain struggles to process what's happening. Is he alone in the house, though? Does he want to answer that? Is this thing trustworthy? Those horns, man... Those things look like they could gore the shit out of a person. A long, hesitant pause that stretches a good few seconds before Jesse gives a nervous, almost imperceptible nod, yes. He's alone. ]

outside house #4
Her concentration meant that Bela wasn't entirely aware of what was going on beyond the porch of house fourteen - at least not until she took a quick break.
Which may not be for a while, considering how slowly Bela was working. ]
no subject
Oh, shit—
[ A crocdog. Running towards him. The same crocdog from yesterday? Jesse's eyes widen while the ugly thing trots at him with its reptilian tongue lolling out like a dog's. ]
Hey, whoa... Whoa, whoa! [ Jesse hasn't run away at least, but the crocdog has opened its scary looking nippy jaws and snagged the hem of his pants leg. Shaking and tugging at it playfully, while Jesse hops around on the spot with his hands held up in defense. ] Yo! Yo, cool it, yo!
no subject
The commotion was difficult to ignore and she glances up to see what the hell was going on; unsurprisingly, Bela is taken aback for a few moments and doesn't move to help. Not yet, anyway. She doesn't want to get bitten by the monstrous looking animal and Jesse is a stranger - maybe it was just an over exuberant pet?
In the end she decides to intervene, setting aside her materials and slowly getting to her feet, leaving the porch with caution. ]
What can I do? I'm not really a...dog person. And that thing doesn't resemble a normal looking dog. [ She adds, making a face. ] Is it yours?
no subject
Uh— No?! It just, like—! Came outta nowhere, yo! Thing's been following me everywhere since— [ To crocdog now, trying to shake it off his leg: ] Hey, let go, yo!

Down by the River
[A smooth sweet voice whispers somewhere near Jesse's right.
Kat appears a moment later, holding out a hand to the croc-dog in order to sooth and divert its advances towards herself. She's always had a way with animals and at the very least she can show him that this creature doesn't mean him any harm. They were friendlier animals of those she's run into since her arrival.]
It's just like a dog.
[This isn't how she'd planned to spend the afternoon but Kat isn't able to ignore someone who needs help. She's dressed in a dark green dress in lieu of her scrubs, a pair of green boots and black tights. There is a small backpack and some writing materials a few yards away on a rock next to the riverbank, where Kat had been taking notes about the river and the wildlife around it.]
no subject
Frozen on the ground, legs sprawled, Jesse watches the thing making a galloping detour towards the girl instead. His face is twisted into an expression of mystified bewilderment. She's right: It is just like a dog, the way it behaves, the way it bounds around. As for how it looks, however... ]
Wha... What is that thing, yo?
no subject
She doesn't blame Jesse from being surprised or uncertain about the creature. Kat's seen demons before and has a very strong stomach because of it.] I'm not sure what it's name is but I believe it's a mix between a crocodile and a dog. [She's been studying them.]
Here.
[Kat gently takes Jesse's hand and places it on the creatures snout.]
no subject
[ He doesn't want to touch it, yo! He doesn't want to touch something that's totally going to bite his hand off and—
The thing makes a happy panting noise and nuzzles up into Jesse's palm. Just like a dog. Jesse freezes, partly out of fear, but mostly, right now, out of confusion. He'd expect something this freakish looking to be like some kind of savage, bloodthirsty beast. Instead...
Jesse slowly, with puzzled caution, lets the thing sniff his hand. He gives it a tiny experimental scritch against the side of its weird, hairless, leathery skin, and his eyes widen in bewildered fascination as he exclaims in a murmur: ]
...Holy shit.

house #14
When a couple days passed and she hadn't seen anyone new around, her concern grew. Were they afraid and hiding? Or was it something more sinister than that?
Luckily for her, the mystery was solved rather quickly enough. The face staring out through the window caught her by surprise at first, but his expression was more freaked out than anything else, so she took a chance.
She smiled and waved.]
no subject
He doesn't smile back, but he does take a chance back by lifting a hesitant hand to return the wave. ...Hi? ]
no subject
After a moment, she points toward the door of the house before miming knocking on it, looking at him expectantly.
She wants to know if he'll answer it if she knocks.]
no subject
The front door cracks open, wide enough for Jesse to peek his face out of. Spooked little man, all wide eyes and spiky, unkempt hair, his light grey scrubs hanging off his skinny ass frame like he might as well be wearing a colourless clown suit. ]

river -- a bit later; north village side
But it's not like they listen and as Logan heads down to check out the boathouse and the granary on the north village side of the river, they're all trailing after the mutant in a rather hilarious long line with him grumbling loud enough to heard by anyone that might be within earshot. ]

And Mr. White... Well, as much as Jesse wants to hate that geriatric cueball asshole, he'd be lying if he said he hadn't wished a dozen times already that Mr. White was here to help him make sense of all of this. Tell him what to do. Mr. White always knows what to do, eventually. Always knows how to come up with a plan.
Grumblings coming from nearby have Jesse quickly looking over towards it, and— Well, if that isn't the angriest looking buff dude Jesse has ever seen. And Jesse has encountered a lot of angry looking assholes in the line of work he was caught up in back at home. But that's not what catches his attention. Jesse cranes his head to get a better look. The long line of moose following the guy that's heading in Jesse's direction - it's... unexpectedly... comical. Especially with how docile they all look compared to the burly irritation pinched across his face.
Despite himself and how potentially threatening this dude appears, a small, curious smile tugs on the corners of Jesse's mouth. In fact, he finds himself unable to help calling out: ]
Yo. Snow White.
.river.
He's got a little canteen of water with him that's going to offer when there's another issue at-hand - those weird crocodile quadripeds that Major's taken to called crocodogs. He isn't sure what they're actually called, though someone in town has probably got a better and more original name for them, but he's glad he's actually familiar with the creature this time around. A lot more have sprung up or shown up since he's been gone.
As he gets near, he pulls out a piece of dried rabbit that he usually uses for keeping up with Minor's training. The crocodog responds to it happily, trotting after it once Major gives it a toss a good distance away from the sputtering man on the ground.
He puts his hands up to show that he's not a threat as he slowly approaches before letting his hands fall back to his sides.]
They're straight out of a Jurassic Park movie, but they're as friendly as Minor here. [A flick of the head towards his Bassett Hound, who's getting some investigative sniffs in.] They'll play fetch with you, too.
by the river
[They look mildly terrifying at best, that much Picard can't deny. But they are still comparatively harmless. Enough to at the very least be less of a threat than some of the other things that have come through the village of late.]
I assume you've just recently arrived?
