[MINGLE] Wendi-go-go to the inn

WHERE: 6I Village and Inn
WHEN: 27-31 July
OPEN TO: ALL - Mingle
NOTES: The Wendigo threatening the village will be killed mid 28 July, with a Blue Lily, per these threads. Plot details here. Note: The final fight is close enough to be seen from the upstairs inn windows.
WARNINGS: Wendigo attack mingle, please warn in comment headers if discussing violence, gore, or related trauma. Possible mentions of character death.

The urgent warnings come from villagers returning south from the lake: a creature twice the size of a man, antlered and voracious. Larger than any they've seen on the plains, stalking its way to the main village. Some might have their own names for this hunger in a skin of shadow; others might remember that it was the first to claim a life, in their village's short history.

Whatever context one has for it, best to secure all pets and loved ones before it arrives. With weapons and food stores at the inn, the call goes out to gather — And to bring back any tools, because there's no telling what doors and windows can do to stop such a creature.

"To do what?"

It's not that Picard can't understand the desire to help. He absolutely can. But this is a creature that he's never even seen before, and he knows all too well that there's a possibility that even the best weapons they have aren't going to be enough to bring in down in the end. He is, of course, also completely unaware of the fact that this is the sort of thing that Peter would have been tackling in his own world, but either way there's no mistaking the faintly parental note of disapproval in his voice all the same.

That said, he's at least willing to listen, if nothing else. He might not actually be the person Peter needs to convince mind, but he'll listen.

The parental tone works, alright. It's firm without being condescending, and snags Peter's attention instantly for how much it sounds like his Uncle Ben. He feels instantly chastened, even though he hasn't quite parsed yet why; deep down, he knows he's behaving poorly, even if he's justified.

"To help," he quietly answers, and pulls in a deep breath, looking up at Captain Picard. "I know I don't look like I could help much, and everyone thinks I'm just going to run out there and get killed, but I can help them, and they probably really need it."

It's a good argument, at least. Or at least, it's not one that Picard can much begrudge Peter for. It's not necessarily going to be enough to get him to agree to let Peter go - and never mind that it's the people watching the door that he's really going to have to convince - but he can at least sense the conviction in it, and the genuineness of his desire to help.

"If I'm understanding right, even helping carries the risk of being killed. And surely it would be better to not risk even more people dying?"

Peter's age is a concern, yes. But even if it weren't minimizing potential casualties is for the best, as far as Picard is concerned.
