[MINGLE] Crab Boil

WHO: Mark Watney
WHERE: 6I Inn front lawn
WHEN: 21 June 2018, afternoon/evening and onward
OPEN TO: ALL - MINGLE
NOTES: A few thinsgs: You may assume your character helped set up; There are tubers in pot with the red salt, negating the warmth effect; The list of of potluck dishes is here; The list of local provisions is here

The weather is great, the sun is starting to dip toward the horizon, and it's pleasantly mild. Time for an (extremely) old-fashioned low country boil.

We've got two small fire pits built out in front of the inn, each with a massive pot filled with loads of vegetables — corn, carrots, potatoes, onions — and of course the rainbow crabs Finnick and Annie discovered not long after we arrived here. We've even got salt, if you can believe it, although the red salt in this place is pretty spicy and usually makes me sweat, so I've only put it in the one pot, and then set a bowl of it out for garnishing.

Tables and chairs have been brought out from inside, a couple of them set aside specifically for piles of plates, bowls, cups and whatever potluck provisions the rest of the village brings.

"It can," Jean-Luc answers, looking up from his own plate. Which it should be noted also has some rainbow crab on it. "However, it isn't a guarantee. Additionally, I believe that at least within Earth species it's more common for poisonous species to simply be brightly colored as opposed to being this sort of rainbow-colored."

And even then it's not a guarantee. There are any of a number of species that use being brightly colored to attract a mate instead. True, he won't deny that the fact that so much of the rest of the local flora and fauna seems to be at least mildly alien throws something of a wrench into that particularly method of thinking, but it's as good a place to start as any, he figures.

"Also I would assume it wouldn't have been chosen as a focal point for a gathering of this sort without someone have made sure it wasn't immediately harmful, at least."

His eyes flicker up to the man seated across from him; they've never met, but despite that he'd seemed like a decent enough company to settle in across from. Evidently it's a good choice, because Jean-Luc does assuage a few of his concerns (even if he doesn't look wholly convinced).

"Glad one of us is confident," He mutters, settling the crab back down not his plate. Rather than reaching for any of the crab-cracking utensils provided, Bucky simply snaps the structural point of the claw off with metal fingers. It gives easily, and he inspects the meat within.

Lips turn down. "...You wanna go first?"
