[i'm not crazy, i'm just a little unwell]
WHO: Major Lilywhite
WHERE: The fountain, around the village
WHEN: July 23, then July 24th - the end of the month
OPEN TO: OTA; specific thread for Ravi.
WARNINGS: N/A
[Arrival - July 23, Early Evening]
The first thing Major notices when he breaks through the surface of the water is the sudden rush of air in his lungs, making his brain vibrate and buzz in his skull. It's a feeling he hasn't experienced since .. well, since he was last human. Does that mean that he's no longer a ... ? Huh. Will have to come back to that one later.
The instinct to survive, gather his bearings, figure out his sudden location change override any inkling he has to focus on the very human sensations he's experiencing. He crawls his way out of the fountain, tumbling up and over the edge of it, rolling onto the ground. On his back, he catches his breath and stares up at the sky overhead for a few seconds before the feeling of the fabric clinging to his body finally sizzles a few nerves in his fingers, and he realizes he isn't wearing the henley he remembers wearing, nor is he wearing the jeans he'd had on. Instead, he's wearing a .. very vibrant pair of magenta .. well, for lack of a better word, scrubs, and there's something digging its way into his back.
He sits up, loosening the straps of the strange pack he has on to take a look at it before deciding to get out of the open and somewhere sheltered. No weapons, no bullet-proof vests .. no hungering for brains. There's that weird buzzing in the back of his skull again.
He gets himself up, slips the pack back onto his shoulder, and begins to wander around the town.
[From July 24th to the End of the Month]
Major's memorized the layout of the town; it isn't all that large, and from his preliminary investigations, it also seems like there isn't a clear way out of the place. He's mostly stuck to the outskirts, having found some shelter in what appears to be an abandoned cabin somewhat near the river's edge (he thinks it's a river, anyway). He takes the subsequent days after his arrival to do more exploring of the village, this time venturing closer to the heart of it, as well as exploring the river to what he thinks is the southeast of his new "home."
He eventually finds himself wandering into the Inn at the center of town, intent on interacting with and asking the others any of the question he hasn't already gotten answers to.

She watched him instead. "His owner left and Clint took him in." She didn't know how likely it was that he'd find one of those boxes sitting at his doorstep. She hadn't wanted hers but she knew that some people had. It was hard to tell if there was a pattern to it. "They show up, usually in boxes for people. That's how I got the chickens outside." And a pain in the ass they were when they showed up. "So I don't know, you're welcome to visit him." Wanda would be happy to have someone who might tire out the puppy. Not only was he a puppy but he was a big puppy.
She paused, chewing over his question. "I don't know. Emotions make you do foolish things but we need them to know when we're wrong too." It was a simple answer though Wanda's full answer was far more complicated than that. She had ripped Ultron's heart out so he could feel her pain, not that Wanda thought Ultron of all people could feel anything.

"Thanks, that's nice of you," he says to the puppy through pouted lips, even though the message is meant for its owner. The puppy realizes the chump its found in Major and settles in on his lap quite comfortably. Major goes from scratching it all over to long strokes down the back of his head, along its side, with the occasional scritch on its chest.
"I wanna say I learned something from some philosopher about how emotions are what make us human," he says, glancing off as he tries to recall. "Though don't quote me on that, because I was not the best student, generally speaking. And besides, animals feel emotion, even if they're in simpler terms, so I think it's all a bunch of crap." His eyes trail back to her face where, once they land, he smiles. "I'm a bit of a sap, so to me, emotions are important. For as much as I wish we could turn them off sometimes, just for a little bit. They do make you do foolish things, but .. I think that's what really makes us human. Not feeling things so much as doing stupid things because of them. You've heard the Reader's Digest version of my story; a lot of the stupid things I did were because of feelings and emotions, but that's also what made me realize I couldn't just go around like a mass murderer and take people out without feeling anything. So, I think you're right. They make us do foolish things, but we need them to know when we're wrong."

Wanda liked watched Major play with the dog. Clint was a little more strict as was the dogs previous owner. It was nice for the pup to have someone who was up to constantly offering her attention. She had a lot of energy and was growing to be a very large dog.
Her eyes looked up to meet Major's when he began talking about philosophers. "Emotions are what make us human." She began in a soft voice. "Make us real." She wasn't big on showing her emotions but she knew how important they were. Ultron had no empathy and because of that he thought destroying the human race would save it. It wasn't as simple and clean as that. People were complicated, unique, with the potential for both good and bad. Wanda had spent a lot of time learning about the mind.
"I've done many foolish things." Both good and bad. "It's nice talking to an idealist." It was a nice change in pace.

"An idealist?" he asks, looking at her. "Huh, I wouldn't have called myself that, but I suppose there are worse things to be, right?"
no subject
"I don't think this is like that." Though they did wake in a body of water, there wasn't a mark on their skin. "Hopefully it's a comfort." Her voice was light.

"Uh oh, is that a hint of optimism and idealism that I hear? Am I wearing off on you?" Major teases, obviously amused by the whole thing. It isn't hard to tell that Wanda's had a difficult life; it makes sense that he would have become more cynical and hardened by her life experiences. But it's nice to know that there's still a softness underneath the outer shell, too. "Also, yeah, I only saw the first Matrix movie, too; I couldn't handle any repeats of the same thing. Like I said," he taps at his temple with each syllable of, "existential crises."

She looked up at Major before shaking her head. "I heard they weren't as good." So they didn't miss anything by not seeing the last two movies or the animated one.

"I don't know." She didn't have an argument against him and she found the notion that he had stumped her in her gloominess entertaining. "I might thinks too hard for myself." This was a big thing for Wanda to admit though Major might not realize it.
"It's good to have friends to help pull your head out of your ass." She said, using Clint's phrasing.

"Well," Major laughs, looking back up at her, "That is definitely true. It's good to have at least one friend. You don't need a crowd of them; just having one or two really good friends is all you need." There's a twinge of sadness in Major's tone, his gaze floating back down to the puppy with a bit of a sigh. "That's .. gonna be the hardest part of being here, I think. I had such a solid, supportive network of people back home."

Wanda wasn't sure what she had at home. There had always been few people in her life that she could truly count on. One of them had been Steve though she hadn't talked to him much since his arrival. It felt lonely, knowing he was here but unable to go to him. Time distortions made everything more complicated than they had to be.
"You have plus one." She replied softly, gesturing to herself. She didn't know if he knew others here but he at least had one friend in Wanda.

Arado stirs from his lap, yawning and stretching before leaving him with a parting lick on the nose. Once his lap is unoccupied, Major stands with a little bit of a groan, arching his back to stretch it out. He sits back in the chair, though he doesn't quite settle into it. He doesn't want to overstay his welcome.
"That's ... really comforting, thank you," Major replies with a smile. "Likewise."

She stood when Major did. Wanda wasn't the greatest host but she would at least walk him to the door and watch him go. She'd fairly sure that's what she's supposed to do, it's what Clint and his wife did every time she had visited.
"You're welcome."
this is comment #24 for me
One more!
"I'd be happy to teach you; cooking or hunting." She had to learn too and she didn't mind passing on what she knew.
"You know where to find me." Since he knew where she lived.
yeah! woo!
"Yeah? That'd be great. I've shot guns before, but - never in a hunting capacity. I'd probably be a terrible hunter because I'd feel so bad, but I'd like to learn, at least. Thanks. And I'll figure out how to repay you for everything - for .. being so kind, for taking me in, for promising to teach me to cook and hunt. I'll figure something out." He nods at her as he grabs his things, makes his way towards the door, opens it, then pauses in the door way for a moment before glancing back at her with a parting wave.
Now, to find somewhere to sleep.

If he needed anything she'd help though she found that many in the village didn't ask for help, even when it was available. When he said he wanted to learn to hunt, Wanda was secretly a little excited.
