of vension and root pottage and fritters

WHO: Kate Kelly
WHERE: The Inn
WHEN: 7th November | Noon
OPEN TO: E V E R Y O N E
WARNINGS: N/A
STATUS: Open and onging!

Since that first lunch at the Inn, Kate Kelly has kept them up. Every day, without fail - even when she went missing and then was recovering, people continued in the kitchen to make sure the community gets their daily midday meal. She's proud of that, and she thinks she's allowed to be.

Today is no different.

The food is dropped off, the volunteers gather to chop and stir and cook and serve, the community gathers to eat, and then it is time to clean everything. If there is still no alcohol, well...

There's tea. And a coffee substitute made from chicory. And... Water.

So come on in, help at the kitchen or pull up a chair in the pub in front of the fire, and enjoy some warm food and company while the outside cold (and death) stays firmly outside.

[OOC: All sections are completely free for all! You can handwave your character helping out or thread it out, or just jump in to them eating. All characters are ICly invited, as they are every day.]

Nerys nods a little, brief and as an acknowledgement. She knows the 'I'm so sorry' ritual isn't usually necessary between two soldiers, and considering she never knows how to respond to it when she gets it, she decides to skip it. "It's usually the routine ones that are when shit happens," she says darkly.

Even when shit wasn't death, it was still oftentimes a mess. The trip to take Odo to find his people, for starters. That had turned into the family reunion from hell.

It really is one of those things where there aren't adequate words for, and Sam had to deal with it on a regular basis in his job. However, because he had experienced it himself he understood it on a level that others could not. His fellow vets got that, as did other soldiers and it seemed that held true even for soldiers from other times and places.

"Yeah, seems that way. Military life just wasn't the same after that so I got out," Sam turned the burner off and looked to Nerys. "Sounds like you might know that as well," he observed, treating it as an invitation for her to add more if she wished.

A moment later he holds the tray of finished food up, "Fritters are done. We can take these out for people to pick over and look into having that arm wrestling match, hm?"

Well, Nerys figures she's given enough away that she doesn't have to be too cagey--though I Was a Teenage Terrorist: The Kira Nerys Story isn't going to be playing in any metaphorical holosuites here anytime soon if she has anything to say about the matter. Without the appropriate perspective and context, she suspects not a whole lot of people would get it.

"Colonel Kira Nerys, Bajoran Militia," she says, and snorts wryly, because here it doesn't mean beans except in her thoughts and memories. "My people were under occupation for several decades, I was part of the resistance--so I've seen a few things, I hear you there. It's good to meet more people who know how these things go."

She gives him a slight salute, self-mocking, then gathers up the bowls from the batter process and takes them over to the sink to be washed, before washing her hands and coming back over to help him with the tray. "Sounds like a plan. As I said, I'm far stronger than I look."
