Was it wrong that the reason he saw her on the road was because Nida was heading down the street toward Billy's house? A lot of stuff was on his mind at the moment, and Nida just... He didn't know, he'd left the house in warm clothes and just started walking. Didn't want to have to deal with the fountain which would mean possible requirement to fish someone out and explain things.
His head was spinning from the last few days, so that wasn't a thing. So Nida had set out walking, and his feet apparently thought that all roads should lead to Billy just because he was thinking about the guy. So he wandered off down the path and looked up when he heard shoes coming in the other direction. When he looked up...
Wanda. Billy and Tommy's not-mother. Almost seemed like fate.
"Wanda. Fancy meeting you here. What brings you to this part of town?"
How was he supposed to know he only lived two doors down from her?

Arado, her dog, walked at her side and as Wanda slowed, he slowed as well. Large dark eyes looked up at Nida while his tail flicked happily behind him.
"You look like you have something on your mind. Everything okay?"
no subject
He'll have to have the conversation from a distance. In the cold. Because an invitation inside could not be accepted if it was offered. What he would give for a bottle of medication.
"It's... I'm okay. Just... I guess my mind is just going a million miles a minute."
His eyes focus past her, to the first structure back there. Billy's house. Tommy's too, but that wasn't nearly as important. Of course, there is no reason she should know that he had a connection to the twins. Unless they told her.

"It sounds like you need to talk." They could find a better place to talk if he wanted. Wanda didn't mind the cold.

“I’m allergic,” Nida said through the covering cloth. “Dogs are really nice and all but allergies and no pills for it.”
Does he need to talk? With that his attention shifted from Wanda and back toward Billy’s house.
“I had some things I wanted to ask about. About Billy.”
And then, after a moment because he realizes that sounds a bit too focused for a guy who is supposed to be a friend to them both.
“And Tommy.”

"I'll make sure to be careful in the future." Arado had a habit of following Wanda round.
She turned to look at her son's home and then back towards Nida. "What is it?" Her brow furrowed curiously. "Maybe we should walk while we talk." It helped her and she thought that maybe it'd help Nida too.
Even if they walked in small circles around the village.

Talk and walk? Hard to control the situation and all that but if she feels comfortable with it, he will do so. He’s full of nervous energy anyway. He’d forgotten how crushes affected him in the years since he’d last had one. Makes him feel like a stupid kid but... well he is still young. So he turns to indicate they should NOT be walking toward her sons’ house.
“I have been told about your connection to them,” Nida said, trying to be diplomatic. He didn’t know how she felt about it, even if she did spend time with them.

She followed at his side and let Nida go wherever he wanted. Walking helped clear the mind and it looked like Nida's head was buzzing. "I see." Wanda's tongue pressed briefly to the inside of her cheek. "It's complicated but I am enjoying getting to know them both." She considered herself lucky and that deep warm affection she felt for them tinted the sweet notes of her voice.
"Are you close to them? They haven't done anything to upset you?" She wasn't technically their mother but Wanda would be upset to hear that either of her sons were misbehaving. They seemed far more put together than that.
no subject
"No. I mean, well, Tommy can be a bit much to handle, but he's done nothing to upset me. We're not close, but I figure that might happen in time."
They shared enough for it to probably happen. And with Nida being friends with Billy... Billy. Oh the softness of his expression as he thinks of Billy. Fond and soft, and maybe he's distracted for a moment thinking about the time they had spent together. The feel of Billy's hand in his, Billy's arm around his shoulder, and the gentleness of his voice in Nida's ear every night.
"And Billy's a great guy. My best friend. I worry about him."
no subject
"Tommy can be hard to handle. His uncle was like that too." They had a surprising amount in common that worried Wanda while also endearing the young man to her. "But it sounds like you really like Billy."
She paused for a brief moment.
"What are you worried about?"
no subject
The concern though... Is the magic.
"He takes after you, or a version of you at least, when it comes to his powers. I guess... I wanted to be sure about some things that worry him. Like whether you think they're gone or something about this pl ace keeps them from you. Not as easy to ask him about that."
no subject
Her voice trailed and she exhaled before continuing.
"When I first arrived here. It was nearly two years ago. We had our powers but they were limited. It turned out that the situation had been a simulation and that our powers were eventually suppressed. When we won't up here, well, there is really no confirmation that we still aren't in a simulation." Her light green eyes turned towards Nida. "Do you see where I'm going with this?"
It explained a lot without questioning the whole 'clones' theory.
"No one can take away what he is. It will always be a part of him but they can make it feel like he can't reach it. We don't know the truth of the matter but it depends on what he believes and that is something that Billy has to find for himself." She held up her hand to briefly stave off any argument. "And I don't me we shouldn't help him. He needs our support but believing something with only faith is difficult for everyone."
no subject
Not that religion was much of a thing where he was from. Still, if the power was still there, that meant Billy was afraid of things, and quite possibly for a good reason. How did he make the guy feel better about it? How to make him not fear himself or his power?
Like that was something he even had a right to get involved in.
"I expect he appreciates your support. I'm glad he has you there for that."
Not going to argue. What would be the point of it? He's relatively new and she's got more experience with this place and the powers in question.
