Hey people, Foggy here. I got a couple of those boxes that seem to happen to people and while it's addressed to me, I get the feeling that it's meant for the collective. I've got a bunch of woodworking tools here, including chisels, files, a saw and a hand drill with drill bits.
I'm taking this a hint that they approved of my amateur forays into carpentry and want that to continue, but I want to make sure everyone knows they're welcome to use them. For now, I'm keeping everything at the South Inn, but maybe we can set up one of the houses, or the mill as a workshop at some point.
Even had an idea for making paper from the sawdust and shavings. That's probably going to need experimentation though.
South Village Inn
True to his word, Foggy has set up in the large front room. He's moved a table to a far corner and he's set out the tools, checking them over to see if they're all fine. He does know all these tools, he did high school wood working, but it's been a while.
A long while.
But the main reason for sitting here is so that it's apparent he is here, and the tools are here, and they can work something out for making useful things and teaching people to make useful things.
Inn
In fact, he hadn't see the post, and was just down in the southern village looking for supplies for the farmstead that they were working to make a reality further north. Planning to pick up some things from the butcher shop that he's offered to carry north, he takes a stop by the inn. Mostly for the food, and because he's not really gotten out around the village as his bunkmates do.
He's glad though to be back in his clothes, the ones he feels comfortable in. Even if they apparently mark him as a man "out of time" as he's been told with the linen shirt and vest, jeans and boots with a hat low on his brow.
There's a few people around, but then there's someone at a table with a few things that he's familiar with.
Altering his path, he comes over to where the man is.
"Vasquez hadn't mentioned we had a carpenter around here. Unless, of course, you're the mortician in which case I'm not being measured for a box. Thanks but no thanks."

He's a cowboy.
No... he's a bounty hunter, which is what too many people call a cowboy, but he doubts this guy's primary income was herding cows.
"Not either," he admits after a moment. "I just got these in a box in my room. Well, two boxes. I work at the butcher's and back home I'm a lawyer." He offers out a hand. "Foggy Nelson."
no subject
"You do any wood work then? Or think they're ju... Wait, you said the butcher? So you work with Bobo then, huh?" He makes a face, not quite rolling his eyes. Almost but not quite stopping himself.
He holds out his hand though. "Name's Joshua Faraday. Pleasure to meetcha, Foggy." Not even blinking at the name. It wasn't Goodnight, after all.
no subject
He pushes out a chair with his foot, silently inviting Joshua to sit. "You don't sound like you're a fan of the man."
no subject
Giving a nod, he pulls out the chair and slides into it. "Thank you. I appreciate it," he says, glad for someone being social. "Well, I can't say I rightly know him," he admits. "I mean, we share a house and all, but I'm not real comfortable around him."
Because he has to think about how Vasquez used their relationship to poke verbally at Joshua after he arrived but talking about him and Vasquez like that is hard.
"I guess he's fine. He keeps food in the house and wood for the fire. I don't know. He's just..." He shrugs, waving his hand. "There's just something."

When you have a moment, I was wondering if you'd be willing to talk about what happened on New Year's Eve?
Respectfully yours,
Anne

I'm willing to give it a shot, is what I'm saying, but it might take a few goes.

Inn!
And to say that their number, when it came to a guy his size, was thin on the ground... It was an understatement.
Still, he was wearing a pair of jeans when he came down, as well as a T-shirt that was a size or so too small for him and an overshirt he was still trying to button past having his hands full of some gloves and a hat and a scarf and a jacket he didn't need when he was indoors. At least he was warmer now, he thought, even raising a hand to greet Foggy when he saw him--
For all that was when he also saw--
"Woodworking tools? Ooh, handy. We're going to need those."

"The tools, though - you're not practiced in them very much? Huh. Wonder why you got them, then," he mused. "...And who gave them to you."

Obviously he never spent time on social media at home; it's a very visual platform with photos and messages and the like, and he doesn't spend much time on the network now either, so he didn't realise what was going on.
no subject
When he hears the tapping, he looks up. "Hey... the chairs are all pushed in, you should be able to safely navigate over. I'm in the back corner, I got one of those box things people talk about. Full of woodworking tools I barely know how to use."
no subject
"Making Jesus proud?" he jokes as he moves around to the source of Foggy's voice. He's still not a great judge of distance so he stands a little further away than most people would have a comfortable conversation in.
"Are they straightforward at least? Chisels and hammers? Or the kinds of things you've never seen before?"
no subject
It's the things he never realised he didn't need to do before.
"Planers. Chisels, soft hammer. A hand drill with some metal bits. Hand saw and some files. Good starter set."
no subject
"I'm sure you're starting with just shelves and ornaments for now, but do you think you can make some furniture with all this eventually?" It can't be that hard, right? All that insert A into B type of flatpack self-assembled furnishings makes this kind of thing seem much easier than it really is.
