GIRL'S NIGHT

WHO: Anne
WHERE: Anne's House
WHEN: Tonight
OPEN TO: OTA/Mingle
WARNINGS: Drinking, will edit as necessary

[The video opens to show Anne's living room with a subtle glowing decor of candles and greenery and red berries (though, to note, care has been taken so the two elements are not intersecting). Anne herself is sleek-haired and smiling, with a little kitten perched on her shoulder. She's got one hand up to steady him as he's the inquisitive type, trying to lean in to sniff at the device she's currently talking to.]

I received two surprises today. Little Lynn on my shoulder, here, and an obscene amount of wine. So, I am declaring Girl's Night. 'Girl' is up to your interpretation. If you want to hang out and enjoy some wine, you'll be welcome. Just, BYOG; bring your own glass. House 53.

Private to Franklin

I was gifted with way too much wine for one person, and am throwing a little get together at my house. You're more than welcome to come, and I also wanted to know if you want me to set a bottle aside for you?

Private to Tony

Bottle of wine with your name on it if you want it, as thanks for helping me deal with Eddie and Venom.

At The House

Anne has pulled out a selection of eight bottles and set them in the living room. She's stashed two for herself and the rest are in the kitchen just in case they somehow run through the first 6,000 millileters. She's not sure how much interest there will be or how many people will show up, but she's also aware that what she's got could be considered a hot commodity.

So why not barter with it, Anne? Why not trade it for favors, labor? She asks herself, but the answer is too bare and ready; I'm lonely. The idea of filling her house up for one night for something that's not related to survival, surrounding herself with friends, will make the truth she's facing a little easier to bear.

Hadn't those been the best Girl's Nights? Either sharing a celebration or gathering to commiserate? It's not something Anne did often - she wasn't usually the one organizing it - but with everything that's been happening lately, she'd felt she was in need of a little release and what a perfect sign it was to find the 'Crazy Single Cat Lady Starter Kit' on her doorstep. At least she can have a sense of humor about it.

She's got a dry red opened and a glass poured for herself as she waits for people to arrive.

It's less the wine and more the chance to socialize that has Ashley curious about a girl's night. She's not had a lot of such things in her own life, so she can't help but to be curious. Also, in the end, there's wine.

Having a few glasses, if only hoping it will help her to relax. It's odd. She can talk to mob bosses, have no issue with coping with the abnormals, but socializing on this kind of level? She just doesn't have a clue. But wine is helping.

"Okay, but seriously... I just don't even have a clue," she says, though it's not to anyone in particular. "I mean, my mom has infamous immortals flocking to her, and the one serious ask out I've had? Died in front of me by odd bug thing. Maybe it's a curse."

Hawke has plenty to say about love, but she's not even close to drunk enough for that yet. She does like having a drink though. Not her preferred choice, but a good on. She refills her drink and then plops down to Ashley, rather fond of the girl from the first time they met and that's a sad thing to say.

"That's unfortunate, that he died and all so quickly. I don't know that it's a curse, you're a beautiful girl, but there are some men that are intimidated by that. And they're the worst. You ever think about trying with women? Women can be an excellent choice." She herself loves both genders without reservation, and without a favorite. Even if she favored a man for her monogamy, she could see herself doing the same for a woman. "I will tell you this about women, at least they know exactly what to do in bed." She chuckles.

Ashley usually didn't indulge in drink in her town, preparing always for how bad things might get, or when she might be needed. Here? Nothing is holding her back. So she's had a bit more than perhaps she should, but she's enjoying herself.

Grinning when Hawke flops down next to her, learning into the other woman, managing not to spill her glass of wine at the same time. "Go me," she says, then downing the rest of the drink.

"Men are the worst," she agrees, though that isn't exactly what Hawke said. Close enough though. "Honestly? I've never really dated anyone so I've never thought about it. I worked. A lot. I mean, a lot a lot. Everything was work and training and not being caught by the police because technically we worked outside the law," she admits, not worrying about it much here.

"I mean, why not though." She grins at that. "Huh, never thought of that but that is brilliant logic," she says. "And the women around me have not died nearly as easily." Okay maybe that isn't the best logic then.

Hawke is an expert at keeping a drink from spilling while flopping or tripping or beating someone over the head with a stick at the same time. It's a particular type of skill. "Not every man, but yeah, some of them. I keep wondering what it must be like to have a dick, and if it really is that much of a difference." Hawke does come from an area where men and women are more equal than any other inequalities, but she's certainly come across a few pricks in her time with a backward way of thinking.

"Women are great, though I have run into a few of them that bring bad credit to the gender." Hawke huffs. "This bitch named Meredith? Absolute psychopath. Kill all the mages!!!" She exclaims and makes a fist, waving it in the air. That's how dramatic Meredith was, right there. "But yeah on the whole I've had easier times with women. I really wish Isabela was here, you lot would love her." She snickers. "And she'd love you all right back." Aw, her sexy pirate semi-girlfriend. She misses her dearly.

"You can't really make yourself attracted to people though. I suppose the answer is don't limit yourself to hunky men. If you see a pretty girl around and go 'oh hey, I think I could experiment with that' then go for it."

[personal profile] connatural 2019-01-02 05:52 am (UTC)(link)
She makes a face. "No, not every man but for today, I need to focus on the fact that they're all idiots," she says, because otherwise she's only going to think about the feelings that she isn't sure how to handle, or what to do about the loss in her life. Or dealing with her dad. It's all too much right now.

She laughs though at that. "I mean, besides pissing wherever you are, what's the point? Totally not as cool as boobs, or as nice looking," she points out. "Though being able to pee anywhere when on the job? Damn, that would be nice," she says, obviously having thought about this before. Mostly when squatting in an alley.

She blinks at that. "She wants to kill magic workers? Why? I mean, I would think they're useful," she says with a thought to those that she's known. "Least any that I've known are." Maybe she shouldn't admit that but she grins as Hawke speaks about Isabela. "Maybe one day. People keep popping up in the fountain all the time."

Though she kind of goes quiet then. "It wasn't hunky men I was attracted to. He was tall, so tall," she sighs. "And sweet and..." Ashley winces, shaking his head. "Nevermind. Doesn't matter. Far as I can tell, he's not here anymore," she admits, shrugging. "Sorry. This is not the time for this. Let's talk about hunky guys and hot girls or something."

"That's true, they're not nearly as pretty. I've never seen a naked man half as objectively attractive as a woman. They're different wants though." Hawke really doesn't prefer a gender, but what she wants from a man is different from what she wants from a women. They both lead to the same result, hopefully, so there's that. "The biggest downfall for being a man is how vulnerable you are in a fight. The amount of times I've kicked a man in the cock to win is downright cruel and dirty, but all's fair in a good fight, I have no regrets." She fought to win, to live. You don't play nice in those situations.

"Mmmm, wellllll." Hawke tries to think about how to explain Meredith and the complicated political situation of mages and templars. "Mages are very useful, and they are, you know, people, but there are some who see them as objects or as symbols rather than as individuals. They are also very, very dangerous and in my world corruption by demons isn't difficult when you have that much power. It's a constant concern, for mages themselves and people who fear them. She was the leader of the Templars, they're supposed to watch over and control mages. Some groups that do it are not so bad, and some are utterly awful."

Meredith was a real piece of work. "One renegade mage," Anders, "committed a terrorist attack in order to push for a reckoning between the two groups. Her response was to kill all the mages, even if it was the act of one. She was crazy though. Actually crazy." Hawke does not mourn for Meredith.

Hawke glances at her and raises an eyebrow. "We can do that, but if you want to talk about him, you can do that too. Otherwise we can dish about the most attractive people in this village. There's too many of them."

Ashley laughs, and perhaps it a bit cruel, but Hawke couldn't be more right. "Isn't that the truth? And it doesn't matter what species. One swift kick and..." She raises her hand straight, then has it fall over. "And doesn't matter the species, right? I mean, some of these beings seem so evolutionily advanced, and yet... Every time."

Ashley is definitely not bothered by Hawke's tactics, and not just because she isn't vulnerable in that way. In a fight, you do what you have to. Winning is the only objective.

"And it's not cruel. What? They can't wear a cup? Codpiece? Something to even protect it? I mean, I'm a guy and I get in fights? I'm sleeping in a damn cup. It only makes sense. Like pulling your hair up if it's long. Remove the easiest target."

Which shows how Ashley looks at the world in so many ways.

"Is that any different from anyone else though?" She frowns then, shifting on the couch to curl one leg up and face Hawke more fully. "I mean, there's dangerous and corrupt people in all factions, all with some kind of means and motives to do horrific damage to others. Not as if those that work magic are the only ones." Not liking how any of this sounds. Not in the least.

"So another zealot with power killing others because of a zealot with power? I mean, that's about it, right? Still makes them both wrong, and is still about people with power hurting others."

And she hates the way any of that sounds.

She chuckles at that though, head canting as she considers Hawke. "Is there anyone that's not? Attractive, that is."

"It's true! Dwarves, elves, humans, qunari, they have much of the same soft bits and weaknesses. That's where I'm from, I imagine you have your own too." It was interesting to think about how many similarities there were while obviously major differences as well. Hawke wonders now about Ashley's worlds and the others, were there a lot of different species? Even more than hers? Interesting if so.

Hawke laughs. "I like the way you think. And yeah, there's armor all over me, you think I wouldn't put it over my most sensitive parts?" She lifts a hand to her own hair, running fingers through it. "It's why I had this cut up to my ears for my time as a mercenary and in the army. Very little to grab onto." She grew it out when she settled into Kirkwall. It didn't stop her from getting into trouble, but she was better then at getting out of someone's grasp before they got to her hair.

She shadows Ashley's position herself so they were fully facing each other now as they spoke. "It's not. My sister is a mage, and she could set fire to someone from far away, but I can shoot them between the eyes too. Of the two of us, I'm more lethal. I think that treating mages like walking explosions is what lead many of them to corruption. Not all the time. But some of the time." She knows quite a bit about this. "I don't know if Meredith used to be a better woman, but she went mad and bloodthirsty. Hate can come from anywhere, and violence with it."

It is an intense conversation to have. Hawke's surrounded with magic users so she has a lot of opinions even if mages did give her plenty of trouble too. She smiles talking about the pretty people though. So many of them. "Not that I've seen. I joked that the giant plant man is likely very attractive for his species."

[personal profile] connatural 2019-01-14 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
"Okay, you totally had me until qunari. Never heard of them. What's that?" She is curious, wondering if she's run across them in another name. Though she suddenly giggles.

"Oh my God. I wonder if folding men are able to avoid that. I mean, they can fold up and fit in small spaces, so why not..." It's the worse though, considering what that particular species had been through, but she can't help but to wonder.

Ashley nods though about the comment about hair. "I always kept mine pulled back and braided. See, we plan. Men. So lame," she says with a laugh, rolling her eyes.

Though she's quiet, listening to details of Hawke's sister. She shakes her head. "Anyone can be deadly and dangerous with the right training. You know what it sounds like, right? Like they want to blame the mages to distract from others. Or make sure their mages are the only ones."

She's seen it, and she knows just dangerous either side of that can be.

"Oh right? I mean, he's a plant and seems good looking for a plant. Even the guy with the horns, he's not bad looking. If you get past the horns. Though I bet in his species, they're impressive. Oh. Man. What if they're the small size of things?"

"They take mages away from their families, trap them in a controlled place, and teach them they're always on the verge of becoming evil. It's not exactly a surprise that doesn't go over well." She wonders if there was ever a way to get one of the extremists to see it, but not really. Cullen learned it, at least, so there's always him. Hawke takes a sip and considers.

"My father was an apostate, that's what they call mages who escape the Circle or refuse to go to one. They would have taken my sister away as soon as she showed magic, at five." Something the family would never accept. Hawke does have a glimmer of sadness in her eyes. "They did take her, in the end. I left the city for a time, and they arrested her once I was gone. She eventually seemed to like being with other mages, but it wasn't her choice." And Hawke of course feels responsible. "But she's free now, there was a mage rebellion. I don't know where she is, but she's alive at least."

Hawke has a very sad life in truth and she only gives occasional glimpses into that. She'd rather focus on how pretty people are. She laughs. "You asked what the qunari are, but you've already met one. Bull is the man with the horns. He's quite impressive, and also very kind." A good warrior too. "He's not on the small side. He also is a notorious seducer, so if you ever get curious, he's an easy sell."

Despite the alcohol, and the fun, and the humor, it's painful to think of a world where those sorts like the cabal seem to be winning. such as locking away people who are magical, and demonize them, and mistreat them. It's painful, and she's sad that Hawke has had to know a world like this.

"I'm so sorry," she whispers, shaking her head as she grips her glass a bit tighter than she did before. "That you've been through all of that."

Because hard as so many of their lives are, it's still hard to hear about the horrors they've all faced.

"Oooh, well then," she says. "Qunari thing. Cool. My mother would have loved him. It's what we did. Helped to rescue those hurt and mistreated by society. Not that I know if he is in your worlds or not. He would be in mine."

Ashley chuckles, ducking her head, flushing. "Yeah, uhmmm... yeah, no. He seems pretty cool and all, but yeah. I have the worst experience with dating and all. By worst I mean practically none so, probably not where I would want to go there."

Hawke blinks at the genuine sympathy, and her smile fades, even if her eyes are appreciative. "I'm sorry too. They blamed me for a time, and that's fine, I blamed myself too. I promised to protect her, and being my sister did keep her safe until then. I went off on an adventure but thought she'd be in more danger going." They were dealing with darkspawn in very close quarters and she didn't want to put her sister in a position where she could be corrupted. But then she came back to losing her anyway.

"We got through it. I love her dearly. We lost our brother and parents, so we were it." And then Hawke died too, which means Bethany is all alone.

She lightens up at the talk of what Ashley and her mother did. "That's interesting. No, qunari are natural to the world we're in. We have dwarves and elves too, it's a varied place." Hawke thinks it's nice that they had a place for people to be safe. In her world it would be more equivalent to hiding mages.

"Oh, no, I don't mean dating, I don't think Bull dates. He has casual sex. But I warn you, I hear he's enormous down there. I like sex but I'm not certain I go that big." Other people seem to be handling it just fine, but Hawke prefers things a little easier.
