Since Matt moved in with Elektra, he hasn't had much time to check in on them. And maybe a part of him was deliberately staying away so that Matt could find his own place here. He knows he has a tendency to... smother. Elektra was better at supporting him and yet letting him fail and Frank had enough on his plate already, but it's getting bitterly cold and he needs to make sure they're prepared. He comes bearing gifts at least: a crate full of jams and other preserves, cheese and milk and coffee, and some homemade wine.
It's just himself and Aretha today, she does the best in the cold, and he kicks a familiar pattern into the door while she waits just behind his leg to pounce on whoever comes to the door. S-A-F-E in Morse code is something he has no way of knowing the Frank Elektra knew did as well. He's eager to see how Matt is adjusting too to life without his abilities.
"Landshark," he mutters, though he's likely the only one who will get the reference.

The knocking makes him stop and turn his head. Small moments like the complete inability to tell who it is still make him miss what he used to be able to do. Matt swallows and turns back to face Elektra, brushing his morning stubble against her cheek.
"Don't answer it," he whines, a soft needy whisper against her ear. He's refusing to let her go.
no subject
"It's Francis." Elektra informs him in a mumble as she starts to untangle herself from him reluctantly. As usual Matthew makes a compelling argument for her to do nothing without having to say a single word. She presses a kiss against his collarbone anyways as she makes the last insistent push away from him to grab some clothing. She can care less who sees her in a state of undress, but she thinks the men in this scenario won't be quite as indifferent.
She ends up yanking on her jeans and a long sleeved shirt that could honestly belong to her or Matthew. She can never keep track. It takes her no time to dress which shouldn't be a surprise to Matthew at the very least. She strides up to the door without bothering with any apologies over the small wait, messy hair, bare feet, or that she couldn't be bothered to put on a bra. "Hello, Francis." She smiles like a kid at Christmas once she catches sight of what's in his arms. "Thank you for not making me regret getting out of bed for this." She steps aside. "Please feel to come in while our Matthew gets decent." God knows she's not going to bother. He gets what he gets with her.
no subject
"I know better than to waste your time," he points out even as he leans in to kiss the rise of her cheek. He doesn't linger though, allowing her to shut the door behind him as he goes to the table to unpack the goodies he brought. In addition to all the foodstuffs, there are two sets of scarves, mittens and hats that match his except in bright red (his are, naturally, teal.) His hair is hopeless static as he pulls his hat off next, not bothering to smooth it since apparently this is a super casual weekday situation. "You sure he can manage on his own?" He's not about to check on him or anything, but only because Elektra is here to scold him if he babies Matt too much.

Eventually Matt would come crawling over admitting he could use a hand, but not today. Today he just makes his way over towards the sounds of their voices wearing only his pants. For the first time in a long, long time, Matt looks well-rested. Covered in old scars with no new ones after the healing spring worked its magic. This is almost the life he'd always wanted with Elektra, even if the circumstances could be a whole little better, but he's taking all the small blessings he can and working through everything else.
He runs a hand through his hair even though there's no fixing it or getting rid of last night's evidence, blissfully unaware that they were just talking about him.
"Hey Frank." Matt turns his head with a sheepish little smile like it's automatic code for 'wow it's a little chilly when we haven't figured out the electricity situation and I can't find my shirt'.
no subject
"To a point. You have to wait for him to admit defeat for the rest." Elektra gestures to Matt's entrance as a prime example as if she planned it that way. Even if there wasn't a significant chance this is his shirt she's wearing, he'd still have a hard time finding it. She didn't even have to look to know that would be the case. Good thing she's never going to complain about this view. Bad news is it is only a matter of time before he gets sick on her. One problem at a time, right?
She turns fully to face Matthew in her chair. "He brought us gifts, Matthew. I think you'll like them." Elektra notes sweetly. She's really that easy to please sometimes.
no subject
"Hey, asshole," he greets belatedly, about as much affection injected into the word as possible while still maintaining its original meaning.
no subject
"Did you? Thank you." Matt grabs onto the bottom of his scarf and lifts it a bit with a tight-lipped smile. He has no idea what Frank brought but if he knew there was coffee he might be gushing over the gift basket in highly inappropriate ways.
"Hey, um. You've helped us a lot. If there's anything we can do for you... Or- or Kamala."
no subject
"We know what she means to you, Francis. You can refuse something for yourself, but at least let us give the girl something." It's a classic Stick move to refuse to use a name; set up distance between themself and a more vulnerable party. She doesn't even realize she's doing it.
Elektra pops up the coffee container and turns to Matthew so he can catch the smell of it. God even her mouth is watering. She's missed good coffee after the junk she consumed in Reverie regularly.
no subject
"I know you saw that post, it's her birthday soon and..." He sighs, thinking of that big birthday party shindig. They should feel lucky to have missed that, even with the free music. He looks at Elektra mainly since Matt won't be able to notice if he's making eye contact or not, and it hasn't escaped his notice how she distances herself from the girl. It's hard for him to reconcile this woman with the one who had lived with all the children in Reims, but he knows she's still a good person underneath it all. He won't stop trying to bring her out. "I want it to be special."
He can't fully control how his voice cracks here, looking down at the ground, scratching Aretha's ears as she comes up next to him, seeming to sense his distress.
no subject
Matt is mindful of his word selection, thinking before he speaks. No doubt, the last time Frank planned a birthday party... was maybe before. Everything happened to him.
"Does she have a lot of friends here? Are we talking pirate costumes, boy bands and cake that comes in more than 256 colours or...?" Matt's going all in apparently.
no subject
She glances back at Matt, somewhat annoyed as her hand drops. "Matthew, she's turning seventeen not seven." In case he was wondering if she saw that or not. She looks back to Frank, admitting reluctantly. "He is on the right track. What does she like?" Elektra has ideas based on her low key observations in both worlds, but it's better to hear from the nearest source to her.
no subject
"She loves superheroes, so you're not that far off actually. I'm making her a chocolate cake, uh." What else... "There aren't that many kids her age, but she's friends with all of 'em I think. Or if she isn't, she will be." She's just that kind of kid.
no subject
He can't sense that Frank is upset so Matt just linefaces and breathes out a sigh.
"Could invite Tony Stark although he might not be interested if there's no alcohol, sex workers or cocaine," Matt quips dryly.
no subject
no subject
"Stark's been good to her, I'm sure he'll show for a minute. Maybe one of you could work on Cap though? He's her favorite." Maybe Matt since he's cute and helpless. Something like that. "I'll need help finding flowers to decorate the place with. Maybe there will be some good snow before then, we can build a fort." He's obviously getting into this the longer he goes on.
no subject
"Cap? ...tain America?" Matt tilts his head. Frank always struck him as being more quintessentially American than Mr. Rogers, but that's netiher here nor there. Matt wasn't aware the Brooklyn boy was here. They haven't crossed paths, but among all the people involved in the Incident, Matt has the least worst opinion of Steve.
"I'll try and find him. Maybe you should take Elektra with you," Matt suggests with a tight-lipped smile. The kind that says not to argue because he doesn't want his psychotic ex-not-ex-girlfriend threatening to cut a veteran up into five pieces should he decide to decline the invitation.
"You'll need. Someone with eyes. To arrange flowers." Or sight. He knows what Matt means.
no subject
Thankfully Elektra has her own reasons for agreeing to stay out of it. "You're a better charity case when we're not together." She points out bluntly. No one pities the man with a beautiful woman at his side. "I'll handle flowers with Francis while you bond with him. Don't forget to work the fellow Irish orphan angle. I'm willing to bet he's soft for it." Yes, she's this diabolical. Thanks for asking.
no subject
"She said it," Frank points out, but like, it's true. Go put on your best puppy eyes Matt and get them Captain America for his daughter!! "Did you guys see the newer post, from Alex? About the snake-bats?"
That's really what inspired the impromptu visit. That and him being on his way to claim his millionth stray.
no subject
He's always got some excuse about how long it takes to go through that when his device has to read it out to him, but he's deciding, wisely, to forgo the excuses and just humour Frank.
"Unless you have?" he directs towards Elektra. "Is it important?"
no subject
She doesn't bother asking if it's important. Francis wouldn't bother her if it wasn't. She cuts to the chase. "What can they do?"
no subject
"A bite can give you echolocation." And blindness, but pffff, like that matters. "I'm gonna ask him if there's a way to extract the venom."
Or Matt could just get bitten by a bat every day. That sounds fun, right?
no subject
"Did somebody get- Wait. You're not thinking of- you want me to drink that?" (a) The prospect of being a human guinea pig isn't all that enticing, and (b) he's not Batman, don't put him in a cave full of those things and wait to see what happens.
Matt doesn't want to say this doesn't sound like a great idea, but, you know. This doesn't sound like a great idea.
no subject
She leans towards him as she argues her case. "I can teach you everything I know about how Stick operated, but this gives you an edge in case I can't catch you up in time." That's her fear. She spent more time with the old man, studied him as much as the lessons he offered her, but time is the one enemy she cannot easily defeat. She sighs in frustration before continuing, "There may not be a war here, but that doesn't guarantee eternal peace. I will always protect you, but you can't tell me that's what you want." To hide behind her while she handles the threat; as if his pride would allow it.
no subject
"I mean, you could try the power machine, but I'm wondering if this is a side effect." He turns over his palm and a big flame rises up from it. That's not normal, is it??? He's wondering if this has anything to do with the house fire he saw the other night. He shrugs and closes his fingers and the fire disappears. "I got lightning powers from a flower once. I'm just saying, it could work." And be safer, for lack of a better word.
no subject
It's true that he doesn't want Elektra or anyone else having to look after him. Stick somehow managed to work with the darkness, but right now it's working against Matt at every turn.
And don't let him start on the whole 'I haven't earnt it' speech and how he must go through things the hard way. He'll never stop talking.
"...where is this..." Matt shakes his head and licks his bottom lip. "batkeeper?"
no subject
"Let's see what other interesting things the three of us can do together." She closes her palm dramatically. Elektra is all in on this unsurprisingly.
no subject
He keeps forgetting Matt can't glean what's going on, he's not fully intending to have a conversation behind his back, but here it is anyway.
no subject
"No. Haven't heard anything." He also isn't aware of the pyrotechnic show that's going on in his living room. He hasn't sneezed and started a fire yet so, that's always on the table.
"When are you going over? I'll come along. ...as soon as I find my shirt."
no subject
no subject
"The mice freeze everything they touch. They just look like normal little field mice, you know. Uh, you don't know. They're cute, and freaky. Anyway, now a bunch of us have fire powers."
Another super normal thing he's grown used to, unfortunately. Waking up with new powers whether he chose them or not. This one makes his regular super powers go haywire, too. Super fun.
no subject
"'Fire powers'? I presume you do? And uh, do you know how to-... Can you work it?" He's not going to be patronising and ask if Frank is a danger to himself or others. Not today anyway.
no subject
She emerges with the items, putting the shirt in his hand and the socks on the table. "He just worked it, dear." Elektra informs him before going for his boots. She doesn't intend on letting Frank wait all day to placate her boyfriend's pride.
no subject
no subject
"Oh. Okay." Matt nods a couple of times and flashes Frank a brief tight-lipped smile. He's putting the scarf back on almost as soon as he took it off to put his shirt on. Clearly he appreciates it even if what's left of his masculinity dictate he not gush all over it.
"Nothing out of the ordinary's happened to us, I don't think."

Frank yanks the socks out of Matt's hands and starts moving furniture around behind him so he can't tell where he is. Then he pushes him, just a gentle shove as he eyes Elektra in a way that says Trust me. If he manages to stress Matt out enough, his scrubs power should come to the fore as a defense mechanism and knock Frank on his ass.
no subject
"Ow. What the hell Frank?" Also, Elektra loses brownie points for letting Frank bully him.
no subject
Turning abruptly, he rushes Elektra, meaning to tackle her to the ground. Her reflexes are doubtlessly better since hello, fine-tuned murder machine. Besides, she can see him coming and the intent in his eyes.
order change to elektra-matt-frank
"Francis, I don't think mildly annoying Matthew is-" She never finishes rolling her eyes at the men in the room. Stick trained his murder machine well. A giant man moving suddenly in her direction with malicious intent will always set her off even if that man is someone she trusts normally. Frank would know, wouldn't he? Once upon a time he got to watch a group of men beat on a little girl as she stubbornly insisted on fighting back until she won. He must know it'd make her relive those terrible moments if only for a second.
She's not a little girl anymore. That stab of fear gives her the power she needs to protect herself. Frank will find himself smacking into the bubble before Elektra can step back to get her hands on the kitchen shears. It looks like her new reflex won out over the old one. The sight of Francis hitting it makes her flinch and knock over some utensils in the process.
"Are you really trying to kill or test me, Francis?" Her voice waivers a little. She thinks she knows the answer, but she's been wrong before. "I think I passed."
no subject
He will however have a mini panic and grope around for something to take Frank out. Things have been moved around of course and Matt's brows furrow in frustration. His hand curls around a chair leg and Matt snaps it off with a firm twist of his wrist. He might be blind but it's not like his muscles have been withering away since he got here.
Matt hadn't intended to light the chair leg on fire but he did completely intend to throw it in Frank's direction. For a blind man he's got pretty good aim, but he's going for where he heard Frank stumble so it might be going slightly above his chest rather than straight at his head.
no subject
"Did you just throw a flaming chair leg at me?" Like, Matt, come on. He knows he started it but that was a little much, not that he thinks the fire part was actually on purpose. He turns back to Elektra once he's reasonably sure he's not getting any more torches to the face.
"You have the same power Jess does," Frank explains after a minute, hoping they realize he's not actually losing his mind. "And I'm willing to bet Firestarter over here does, too. It only happens when people are in danger so I was trying to set you off." He should've known Matt would be a tougher nut to crack.
no subject
She moves forward to poke the barrier. Elektra smiles in pure delight at it which of course makes it go away. Oh well. :'( "You should have made a more sincere attempt to hurt me if you wanted to activate his ability." She's just saying. He clearly has a thing about that.
no subject
"When we find this man with the bat venom I'm going to hit you," Matt mutters, struggling slowly to get to his feet. A little bit of warning next time please thanks. All these sighted people going apeshit on him isn't exactly doing wonders for his blood pressure.
"I can't tell if anyone's in danger at the moment," Matt points out. Why are they stuck with the dumbest jarhead in the village? He keeps the 'but if you touch her I'll kill you' comment to himself since he's all bark and no bite.
"And I don't know what you're talking about. I'm not overprotective."
no subject
Which doesn't explain much, but he lost his ability for long-winded explanations a long time ago. Matt should thank the Sound Eaters for that.
"We all get powers when we come here. Fresh ones to make up for the ones they took, in your case." Addressing Matt now. And said sarcastically. He doesn't actually think the Observers feel remorse for any of this.
no subject
She wouldn't be Elektra Natchios if she didn't avoid discussing any of what's on her mind and continued to act like nothing is going on upstairs, would she?
"So they made us more powerful and Matthew less so? Interesting." Elektra breezes past that to point out the obvious. "Matthew, you ripped off a chair leg and threw it at Francis because you thought he might want to hurt me. With a handicap." Which pleases her honestly. It's good to know he'll adapt quick with the right motivation. There's hope for him yet.
no subject
"And they're not powers, like Jessica, or Luke." At least, he didn't think so. "They just help me get around." He wasn't given the ability to throw a few punches or bounce a baton off a couple of walls and hit his target. That was all hard work, training and perseverance.
"What's a bubble going to do? Does it tell me when a cup's full or whether I'm about to cut myself slicing an onion?" Matt huffs, trying not to rant. It's hard, he's such a drama queen, but he bites his lip to stop himself from going off on a tangent.
"Look, just. Let's go see your friend with the venom. And stop trying to hurt people."
no subject
"You're right. Let's go to Alex's." A beat. "You have a coat, right?" Frank is obviously someone's grandma at this point in his life more than he ever could be the Punisher.
