MINGLE: Hunting
WHO: Marian Hawke and Co.
WHERE: Dojo training, on way to hunt, hunting, post-hunt, meal!
WHEN: November 10-12, the 12th is a meal!
OPEN TO: Everyone!
WARNINGS: Probably language and some expected violence against animals
TRAINING AT THE DOJO
This can be any time. Hawke offered people lessons on how to shoot arrows, and Danny is letting them use the targets outside the dojo. She has a bow that she's willing to let people borrow and learn how to use, and she's there almost every day in case someone shows up. Anyone who wants to learn can ask her, or they can also learn how to make arrows. No one is required to go on the hunt if all they wanted to do was learn!
HEADING OUT TO HUNT
Hawke has everyone meet her early in the morning and recommends they bring weapons they have, either personally or from the group stash. She's bringing the bows and a large stash of arrows she's been working on since she got there. They are warned there will be blood and to be ready to walk a bit too. She assures everyone if they feel squeamish and want to go back at any point, that's fine. After those warnings are given, she cheerfully grins and shouts off we go! They'll be trekking through the grasslands toward groffles.
They will see kirin and antelope dogs but not be encouraged to shoot them. But if people want to take a moment to observe them, they can!
TAKING DOWN A GROFFLE
The groffles are giant but generally fairly docile. They are the size of a bison with wide, moose-like antlers and tough, protective plates down its back. So it's necessary to approach them carefully even if they aren't likely to attack first. There are two options of attack in this hunt. One is through arrows or projectiles from a reasonable distance that requires aim, and the other is to try to sneak up by it and swipe directly with a blade. Or two people or more can get together to startle it with a projectile right into waiting blades. Hawke will recommend the latter if they manage to pick one out.
These are herd animals so it is possible to spook them, and cause a lot of the big animals to stampede toward someone accidentally. Or you can successfully take it down alone or with help!
HEADING HOME VICTORIOUSLY
However the hunt turns out in the details, in the end they will return from it with some meat to feast on. On the way back someone could accidentally stumble into some dust moths or rescue someone else from the dust moths.
VICTORY FEAST IN THE INN
On the 12th, the groffle have been properly stripped and handled so people can have their first taste of the kill. Maybe they feel guilty about it, maybe they don't, but either way, you might as well have some fresh meat that tastes a leaner than beef. It's offered by Hawke as a steak or strips. She doesn't have anywhere really to host so she tries to clean up the inn and push away all the important information so people have places to sit. Come have a meal and chat with your fellow hunters, or enjoy the meal regardless of going out with the others because it is communal. Maybe some stories about the hunt will be told!

Shifting, Altaïr sat up, posture still relaxed but more involved than before. "You and Tony are from a different Earth than I, and certainly far in my future. Nearing seven to eight hundred years. Though I am almost sure there must be some common thread, I wonder what it is that it may span worlds, span realities, and span such a great gap of time."

Bruce waved a hand to the room. "If the multiverse exists, every person in this room right now could come from a different universe entirely, all of them real and with histories, sciences, arts, existences of their own. Some could be from a similar universe that is slightly different, like it's possible that you are from an earlier in our own world, or something might have been just different enough that the ripple effect causes a new timeline." It all made a lot of sense to him, but he wasn't always sure if it made sense to others. "So if all of this is true, whoever brought us here has the ability to reach into those universes and take people, either disrupting the timeline or causing an entirely new one in its place."
Bruce shrugged. "Or! We could be clones or biologically created copies of people that still exist within those universes. It would be easier for them to copy our essential DNA and bring us here, and then modify it to remove powers or give new ones. The question mark there is how they managed to copy our minds so perfectly, but if they had the scientific knowledge and power to duplicate our bodies, it might not be that much more complicated to do the rest." He really had a lot of thoughts about this. "I know that doesn't answer anything, and I'm not sure if knowing would help us, but, well, I would like to know how and why."

Altaïr took a deliberate, deep, slow breath before relaxing his hand and exhaling, eyes opening from where they had unknowingly closed. "Knowing the things I know, and having seen the things I have seen, much of what you say sounds possible. Even plausible. There is something at work here that, though it bears resemblance to happenings I'm familiar with, I do not quite understand. But I intend to use what I know and investigate further. I may not be so well-equipped in some ways, but as it comes to theory, I am more than able.

"None of us entirely understand. I know that every step is leading somewhere. This is organized similarly to a scientific test. You have your subjects and the thesis of what you're trying to do. They're observing us closely." Bruce was paranoid, but in this case he was also certain. "Not long after I came here, there was a bonfire. It was set up by them, we were encouraged to take part in bonding exercises in order to build up to a prize of some kind. The more we did what they wanted, the more we were rewarded with badges and then the books in the schoolhouse." Bruce talked with his hands a lot, and they were making a circular movement. "It seems innocent, right? So did the costumes. But before that they had people as part of a simulation wake up here and there was a monster attack. We haven't even been in this village very long."
So basically, a lot of question marks. "The point is I think every single thing matters. I don't know what equation this is adding up to, or what they're gaining, but they are gaining something, otherwise they would already have gotten rid of us and started the next trial. Which is possible has already happened before, still." He sounded animated and curious more than disturbed, honestly, but this was the type of thing that he went to school to study. The great unknown.

This was sounding...
More of those gold-tinted memories swam behind his eyes, giving him moments of towers of glass shattering and falling, explosions, the sky echoing with shades of green. Of statues crumbling, of faces, robes, headdresses the likes of which he'd never seen. Frantic energy quickly cut off with a frown and shake of the head before something tried again, and--
And he had to break free of it. There were such odd echoes between this place and the Apple. He was growing more certain this was not his world, unless--
No, he did not want to think about that possibility. Just the momentary thought he dared not put even a second more thought to had felt like a knife to his gut for a second time.
"There is evidence of this?" he asked instead, catching his breath.

"People speculated that means we could be clones, that's where that idea comes from." Bruce wasn't against it as a concept. "Honestly I think all of our existence in the same space proves a multiverse, but the bunker hints about the scientific experimental aspect." So it was a few things. Several theories working all at once. "People also lived not too long ago in what they called a simulation version of this place. This particular village itself? It's relatively new." The census had a lot of this information, but Bruce also remembers them from his copious amounts of note taking.

"I have read the codex, but I am not so prideful as to hide that English is not the easiest language for me to read. It all seems backward to my eyes. I may have to read it again or take my time and write out my own translation with some aid," he said. "But what you are telling me is... interesting, if unfortunately similar to things I have known of happening in the distant past. This will be something for us to speak of at length. You, me, and Tony. There is much of my story that may shed light on this, or at least illuminate a facet that had yet gone unseen."
And he wasn't certain if that was for good or ill, but it was still something that should be known. To a limited number as yet, but still. Known.

He hoped that was direct enough. Clearly Altair is a very smart person, but that doesn't mean that language and time barriers makes it easy to keep up with a conversation. "So if they are right, this village used to be a simulation in their mind, and then they woke up here for real. It might have been created because of what they did in their mind." Technically they could still be in it. There were a lot of variables.
Bruce nodded at him. "I'm sure we'd love to have that conversation. Sometimes all we do is sit there and talk about theories of what's happening and why."
