Trick or Treat: Friendly Ghost Ѽ October 22nd

There was something odd happening in the village but Kat hadn't been able to find the common link. Now she had. It'd been an apple, unassuming but alluring. She was fairly sure that apples were common in the fall but she'd also grown up in a city and hadn't realized how out of place the red ruby fruit had been. She should have understood before she tried to pick it but it was too late.

The apple had poofed and Kat had been tricked.

For the remainder of that day, a friendly ghost trailed a foot or so behind her. It looked a little bit like Casper but with two leaves and an apple stem sticking out of its head. Kat wasn't sure if anyone else could see him but he wasn't hurting her and it was nice to have some.

Sitting on the bank of the river, the pair of them chattered in excited voices. Kat laughed, the sound warm, rare and happy as the ghost wiggled in the water and pretended that it was being eaten by a cute little fish.

"Please stop." Kat held her journal against her knees, her index finger wiping against her eyes to stop the tears that had formed there. Hopefully, others could see the ghost or was it going to look like Kat was talking to herself.

"I'll never get this finished." She exclaimed with a smile. It was hard to be upset at someone when they were working so hard to make you laugh.

Great Minds: First Encounter Closed to Sam Ѽ OPEN

Kat had gathered some of Circe's spices and was in the process of bringing them to the inn when she'd first heard the soft beep on her wrist device. She looked down and saw a text without context or prompting. She frowned but assumed that it had been a mistake and continued with her work. Another beep and her app showed another message, another thought that seemed to follow the one before it.

"What?" She glanced around, as if to see if someone was playing a trick on her.

'What is that?' Kat thought to herself as she began to fiddle with the wrist device.

Her mouth shaped into a frown as she stood in the kitchen, staring at the app. Was this something new? She was usually good with technology but she wasn't sure what to do with these messages. They didn't seem like they belonged to her.

un; Kat | Text: Missing Friends Ѽ Offering help

Hello everyone.
My name is Kat.

My good friend Circe has vanished from the village.
I have been taking care of her garden and will be providing salves and antidotes to those who need it.
Don't hesitate to contact me if you are in need of assistance.
I can come to you.

Wild Card

[ooc: This is Kat's October Post and will likely bleed into next month for those interested in closed threads. Let me know if you want something! I do want Kat to get into trouble while filling out one of her field reports. If someone wants to save her??? Hit me up, we'll plan and I can get a top level together.]

Vergil had been out again, he was spending a lot of time in the woods. Not just with wood and such, but learning how to fish and how to help them survive. Tonight he had mostly just been sitting out looking at the stars. He had said hours before that he was going to bed, but he had actually changed his mind and gone out the backdoor without a word. The door through the kitchen was his normal entrance.

Hearing her voice, Vergil made his way from the kitchen, with a glass of water and moved quietly into the living room towards the otherside of the couch to put distance. "I wasn't asleep, I left for awhile." At least he wasn't spending all of his time in bed like he did the first few days after the bunker. His hair was getting shaggy and his eyes tired by the pale light she was reading from. "Sit, keep at what your doing, but I told you at night its best to read near the stove, the light is better." He finally took a seat, tugging his jacket off and running his hand through his hair. He went days of sleeping to much, or not at all. There was no middle ground anymore.

First Encounter, Yo

Normally, Sam only stayed in the kitchen for a few hours in the morning. She'd make two or three batches of vodka, then get restless and head off into the woods to do some spear fishing or hiking or, if the spirit moved her, tree punching. Admittedly, she'd cut down on that last one a little. But today was an entirely different animal. Every time she finished a batch of vodka, she just started the next one. And the next one. And one more after that.

It was the routine, more than anything else, that kept her going. She liked having something automatic to do with her hands. Steps to follow, one by one, allowing her mind to drift.

And there was a lot on her mind, to be fair.

The Stark expo. How much longer she could avoid Fucky Darns. Avery's name on the lists. Her conversation on MPD with Bruce. How hot Danny looked without a shirt. And, as always, somewhere in the back of her mind, the nagging feeling that every day she didn't do something to piss off the Overlords was a day of surrendering to them.

She started to peel the last of her potatoes when she heard someone walk in. "What?" she said, looking up. "Did you say something?"

Who the hell is this?

"Anything odd happening?" Sam repeated. "You mean, aside from the fact that we've been kidnapped, imprisoned, and deprived of Cheetos and decent HBO programming?"

I fucking miss Cheetos...

Humor was, by and large, Sam's last remaining coping mechanism. And it wasn't a particularly good one, she knew. But the fact of the matter was that there was something nagging at her. Maybe she was just tired.

But it was like the other girl was a video that was completely out of sync with its audio somehow.

Sam blinked, holding up both hands in a half-abandoned gesture. "I'm...talking now," she said. "I'm not saying anything interesting and I'm kind of confused, but yes, I am talking. Now."

Fuck, I hope this isn't some kind of Escape to Witch Mountain scenario. I do NOT have the energy to deal with this. But that would be so like the Overlords, wouldn't it? Fuckers.

A scowl had settled across Sam's face. Kind of deeper than her resting bitch face. But only marginally so.

"Do I know you?"

I'm sorry to hear about your friend.

Do you need any help with the medicines? I don't know much but I'd be honored to learn.

I see the problem...

I would be grateful for such notes, if it won’t take too much of your time. I suppose I can find a book to that effect in the library if you’re too busy.

Trick or Treat

[personal profile] spoileralert 2018-10-18 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
Steph wasn't enjoying her ghost nearly as much. His face was a little more defined, just enough to make it clear that he was a simpering, depressed looking young boy. He trailed behind Steph sheepishly, almost scared of her. She'd been heading towards the water because she'd heard something about running water and ghosts and wanted to try it out. Maybe it was from the headless horseman? Something like that.

She took a brief detour when she heard Kat laugh.

"Glad you're having fun," she commented wryly. Her ghost peered over her shoulder, clearly more afraid of Kat and her ghost than he was of Steph.

Steph raises an eyebrow, smiling despite herself.

"I don't think I've ever seen you laugh that hard. I was trying to ditch my shadow," she explains, jerking a thumb in the direction of the now actively cowering from the strangers.

"Something about crossing running water, or something. I dunno."

Natalia arrived at Kat's door some half hour later, three books in her arms. One on modern medicine, one of gardening for health and one on the medical properties of plants. She wasn't sure which ones would be relevant so she brought them all.

Now she knocked on the door, ready and eager to learn.

Natalia nodded in reply. She was still wearing only her navy blue scrubs, not having been here long enough to accumulate more clothes than she had started with.

"And you must be Kat. Tea sounds lovely, thank you." She followed the other girl inside, looking for a place to set her books down.
