WHEN: July 16

WARNINGS: Violence and injury in the narrative

A moment ago (or maybe it was hours, who could even tell anymore?) Steph would have told you she was dead. It seemed obvious. She'd been fighting for hours before she was captured, throwing herself against enemy after enemy in a desperate attempt to get things under control. Then she'd been in the hands of a sadist for... days? Weeks? A lifetime. Getting shot in the chest was just icing on the cake. Definitely dead, she would have told you.

Now she burst through the water's surface with a gasp like a quiet scream. There was only one thought in her head: If I'm alive, I want to stay that way. She dragged herself to the edge of the fountain with sheer desperation, certain she was still in the clutches of the Black Mask.

[ Later ]

The inn was like something out of a movie. Then again, Steph’s experience with hotels was pretty limited to Gotham City shitholes where criminals go to hide. She tried not to think about that as she hugged the peacoat tight around herself next to the fire. It probably wasn’t the best look for a girl, staring blankly into a fire, huddled in a coat on a warm summer evening, but her black scrub top was still drying next to her. And besides, the warmth was comforting after a frankly harrowing however-long-it-was.

She didn’t shy away from company, she just didn’t seek it out either. She seemed more adrift than anything. She wasn’t sure where she wanted to go or what she wanted to do.

Fountain Early Morning July 16th

It had been a day. A few days really. He had had had a bad feeling when they had gone to the Darvaarad. He knew they would be meeting other Ben-Hassrath but not that he would be offered a place back with the Qunari. Not that it had been a choice. The Qunari had tossed him aside, put a bounty on his head and tried to kill him. Fair enough that he had broken one of their core tenants but that sort of treatment wasn't going to have him coming back like a loyal dog. That didn't mean he was all happy now, there was an uneasiness in his guts that he decided to settle with booze and lots of it.

He isn't sure how long he'd been out when cold water wakes him roughly. Cold water all around him, crushing against him. He has to fight the urge to gasp for air as he opens his eyes and sees that he is underwater, there is a faint light above him and he swims for it instinctively. The horns make swimming hard for Qunari but now he is functioning more on instinct than anything else. He breaks the surface at the same time as a mighty lighting cracks overhead and for a second he can see the walls of the fountain clearly as well as the village around it. He makes for the edge of the fountain and the thunder hides his grunts as he manages to pull himself out.

He needs a few moments to catch himself, laying on the cold wet but thankfully solid ground, coughing up water and thanking the stars he is alive. Then he laughs, adrenaline making him giddy for having survived that.

Inn Evening July 16th

After getting inside the inn, getting dried off and out of his wet clothes (how did they manage to get scrubs over his horns?) and a bit of a nap to sleep of the worst of the hangover he staggers downstairs to find out what kind of place this is and what sort of people are here. He isn't wearing a shirt because he isn't going to fight those again, but pants and boots. He looks around the inn and finally settles by the fire, talking to anyone who seems interested in a chat.

WHO: (Who is making the post)
WHERE: the greenhouse
WHEN: July 16
OPEN TO: Frank Castle
WARNINGS: (Please warn for adult content or anything triggering) violence, ptsd, horror

The earthquake caused some minor structural damage; most of it was repairable, and most of the village seems to be keen on pitching in to patch up the buildings. Clint is by far the most useful person here for it, he's drawn up easy plans that Bucky's learning to follow through their casual carpentry apprenticeship sessions. The inn is obviously the most important undertaking, followed by the few other communal buildings they use regularly.

Personal homes come at lower priority, and it's in the checking of them that Bucky realizes one place they haven't thought to pop in on. The greenhouse is imperative, he's told, to the food stores and rations for winter. It's not much of a trek, though it's just southwest of the second village. He heads there with a pack of tools strapped to his back just in case, a hatched, a hammer, the basics.

What he arrives to see is sudden and surprising rampant overgrowth. Blue and purple flowers snake their way along almost the entirety of the western wall, a creeping and beautiful vine that spreads up and starts to wrap around the roof of the place. It's not exactly the structural damage he was expecting, but if it stays unchecked it will crack at the seams of the greenhouse and break the foundation, crack the glass, eventually overtake and ruin the whole damn thing.

With a sigh, he sets forth, rummaging around in his hatchet. It takes a second look for him to realize he's not alone. There's a figure there before him, a hatchet discarded at it's feet, facing toward the flowers. Vines creep up around him, a slow and living twist like tentacles winding their way around his wrists and working their way up his arms.

Strangely enough, he seems to just be taking it.

A beat later, he realizes who it is he's looking at, and he bites out an incredulous, concerned sounding, "Frank?"

Because barking out the word 'hotdog' right now just didn't really seem appropriate.

WHO: Jessica Jones
WHERE: 6I
WHEN: July 13-16, to be updated throughout the month
OPEN TO: Kamala; Sam; other options OTA
WARNINGS: language

07/13: INN + SURROUNDINGS

    [ Closed to Kamala ]

Jess avoids the well-trodden paths throughout the day so by all rights, she should be well out of danger in the event of an afternoon earthquake. She's on an emergency supply run to the Inn for tissues, of all things, since her nose is now stuffed when it isn't runny. A pretty stupid item to get crushed to death over but thankfully her bubble has her back, and her head and all the rest of her weak, common cold-susceptible Average Jane junkheap of a body. She didn't reach her destination, almost safe out on the street as the quake's intensity peaked; it's many minutes after, having run into Kamala and sort-of not-really paired off (they're just walking the same way, at the same time), that an aftershock gently dislodges a loose sheet of shingles to come sloughing against her shield.

And ricocheting right at a helpless teenager. No matter what power she's stuck with, she'll make the bullshittiest use of, apparently. She reaches out in alarm but keeps her feet planted, her shield still up, as far as she knows. Like the tent she commandeered her first week here, putting it up is fairly intuitive, but taking it down? Living nightmare.

OTHER

Wildcard option. Jess's sleep schedule is all over the place but she's more active at night than most other times of day, when she likes to wander or watch the 6I streets -- when too many people have the same idea, she hops the pond and skulks around 7I with even less direction. Before sundown, she's reading about the setting at idk wherever that happens will edit that. She hits up the 6I Inn every couple of days for booze, crossing peoples' paths like a black cat.

[ ooc | Will match tag style if you prefer brackets! My plot post is here if you'd like to discuss first, and here is Jess's bio and application with her CRAU history. Will be using this post for all of July, editing only to add new starters or update Jess's circumstances for the wildcard option. ]
