The Inn
Waking in the morning, Vergil set about gathering up the few things he had. More people had arrived since he had, and despite knowing the Inn was the best place to be, namely with his lack of survival skills. He was a loner by nature and the inn was just to full for his liking. The journal he had grabbed up on the day of the quake shoved in his bag with the rest of the things he arrived with in the bag.
He left the door cracked, to make sure it was clearly vacant now, moving down the steps quickly, stopping long enough to get something to eat to tide him over for awhile. Not being able to have whatever he wanted just delivered really sucked. Even pizza sounded like a heavenly gift now after the past week or so.
Around House 48 and the Mill
Vergil had walked around the village, as he had tried to do each day, but the rains and the quake had hindered his plans mostly. He had made his way around looking at empty houses, not going in just looking for something aesthetically pleasing. As if that even mattered in the situation he had found his life in of late. Some habits were hard to break.
Even his old base for the Order had been beautiful in its decay. So when he wandered his way across the water to the Mill, he found a small group of houses past the mill. It was a house with red brick and blue trim that called to him. Walking up the steps it was easy to tell this place was unoccupied. He held tighter to the backpack over his shoulders and made his way on up through the yard pushing the door open, the months and months on months and months of dust fluttered around, he sneezed loudly at that but left the door open. The first thing he did was walk around and open all the windows. It was hard to turn off the voice in the back of his mind screaming open windows invite robbers... but really? This wasn't Limbo City, and it sure had nothing worth stealing.
The door stayed open left the backpack on the porch and went in search of anything he could use to get the dust up, no broom in sight he did however find linens and stupidly decided to use one of the sheets to try to clean the dust up with it. It quickly got dirty as could be. A pillow case came next to start cleaning some of the furniture. Every now and then he would have to step outside and start sneezing loudly. Being human sucked. It wasn't fair that he had to clean, he was almost tempted to go back to the inn, but he had already committed to the idea.
Before the sun set he had found a way to beat the dust out of the mattress after stripping it and the pillows. All the linens needed washed but he was to tired to care. A month ago he would have judged himself. Sleeping on a dusty bare bed sounded more like something Dante would do than himself. He wanted a shower as well, but he wasn't sure how well he trusted the running water yet, the house had a long way to go, and the dark of the night felt a lot more noticeable by himself, still he was exhausted so sleep came quickly.
After morning came, he gave the plumbing a shot, changing into his spare scrubs after a quick cold bath. His reflection in the dirty mirror almost disappointed him, but an idea struck. Running down to the kitchen he looked around. The kitchen had dishes, and other things. He hurried down through the yard once he found the largest pan, taking the dirty bed clothes with him, though he had no soap yet, he tried his best to get some of the filth off the sheets. It made his arms ache pulling the wet sheets out and wringing them, throwing the wet pillow cases in the pan. With wet sheets over his arms folded enough to keep them from dragging. He made his way back from the river. He looked at the mill a moment, tipping his head to the side. Another idea forming but for now he had a house to clean and a survival manual to read.
It was mid afternoon when he gave up for awhile and could be found sitting on the front porch with the sheets hanging off the porch's rails, and the Army survival manual in hand, reading quietly. The house still had a lot of work it needed, and he needed to figure out how to clean the gutters and check and see if the furnace could be cleaned, but for a spoiled rich kid, he was pretty proud of what he had gotten done even if his clothes were filthy. The stolen journal from the inn's storage room was open next to him as he quietly jotted notes.

"I hope so, thank you, Danny." He used the mans perfered named in Circe's presence. "Thank you again," he moved quickly to grab the linens, bringing them to her, a handsome smile offered. "Seriously though, anything at all I can ever help with don't hesitate to ask." He spoke before looking back to Danny.
"We need to get back to work, before we loose light, but feel free to come over and talk if you wish." He felt like a different man offering conversation instead of shutting the world off for the glow of his computer screens.

Danny waited and watched as Vergil handed over the sheets. Hopefully he could teach Vergil enough about cleaning that nothing this disastrous will happen again. He didn't really fault Vergil, he'd been hopeless when he first tried to learn, but it was the kind of thing where doing it wrong could produce more work.
With the hand-off done, Danny turned towards Crice with a his usual warm boyish grin. "And even if you don't want anything now, if you need something you can ask either of us. I'm sure we can figure it out." Whatever it was that she needed done.
His light green eyes turned towards Vergil. "You ready to carry that table?"
no subject
Nodding, she turned to head back to the river and leave the boys to carrying the table. "Don't strain yourself." She called back to them, flashing a smile over her shoulder. She would consider what she would ask of them later. For now, she would make herself useful.

They were nearly inside when she called back and he chuckled. "Well, she seems nice." He spoke to his new friend, Danny is friend. Moving to push the chairs out of the way, and moving one to prop the back door since it would be easier to take it out the back. Moving back to the table it was clear that Vergil was already sweating but, he needed to learn his limits anyway. "Ready?" He asked.
no subject
He really needed to assess the situation.
This was serious stuff.
Danny laughed as he turned back towards Vergil. "Yeah, you're lucky to have a nice neighbor. I found out that isn't true in most cities." He curled his fingers around the underside of the table and nodded his head. "Ready. Lift on three. 1, 2, 3."
no subject
Very serious.
He rolled his eyes some when Danny laughed but he looked fond at him. "Yes, I suppose I am lucky." His life had been like that for the most part until he tried to take to much. "Ready." On three he lifted with Danny and started walking backwards for the door. "Fuck...your right, it's heavier." Solid table.
no subject
"Okay, so turn it on it's side." He twisted. "No, other side, other side."
A short bark of laughter escaped Danny's throat as they shifted and moved the table towards the door and out towards the tree.
Thank god the rain had held.

"I got it." he grumbled, before Danny laughed that infectious laugh and Vergil ended up chuckling as they moved towards the tree. "We may want to find more linens to cover these in case the sky does open up..." He commented as he leaned on the table to catch his breath. He was sweaty alright.

First the house...
"Let's see what towels and pillow cases you have. We'll have to clean them but I'm thinking we should drop water on the floor and mop it up. Might be the easiest way to clean it. We'll then have to clean whatever we use to do that." Which would mean that it probably won't get cleaned today. On the plus side, they can leave it out in the rain and it'll kind of wash it.

"the upstairs seems to just be an attic. I went up, all of the rooms are a straight shot, like a shotgun house." He knew the term from hearing people speak real estate. Basically meant all the rooms went in a line. "It is pretty much empty up there, but there are more closets." He offered with a shrug as he tried to wipe some of the sweat off his face.
"There is no bucket, but a few large pots we could fill from the sink. All of the water is cold of course." He added as if it added insult to injury. "I have yet to go look over the furnace, at least I have experience with that." He didn't yet know that the hot water didn't run into the kitchen, but it at least ran into the bathroom. "Point, the rain will be useful there."
no subject
Hopefully they didn't bite off more than they could chew.
"I can start on the floor once I have a rag or something." If it was small enough he could keep washing it out in the sink.
no subject
"I'll handle the furnace tomorrow, but we would be wise to do half the house today and worry about the rest later." He admitted even if it wasn't idea.

Danny blinked a few times as he padded after Vergil. He hadn't heard about any hot springs being in the village or close to the village. "That would be amazing." His voice sounded wistful as he grabbed two of the chairs and carried then outside.
"Yeah no problem. I can swing by again if you want a hand. This is the most I've done since I arrived here." He grunted as he placed the chairs down outside.

He reads a lot, and reading the book had been helpful. "We can go seek it out once the sun sets. Seems better for night once it cools down." Heat and heat just sounded like hell at the moment. Plus he figured they had usable time for now.
"Your to good to be true, Daniel." He offered that smile again, looking down at the dusty floor before moving to grab the bigger pans to start letting one fill for now. Seeming to think it was nearly water time. "This is the most I've done to..." No just here. Just, all together, fighting demons didnt take this long. and a slow war wasn't this exhausting.
no subject
"Sure." Though Danny wasn't sure he'd be comfortable doing that if Circe came back. He was polite but he was still an awkward nervous boy around girls. More so around girls who were stripping and enjoying at leas tone hot spring. Not to say that he hadn't snuck out to peek at said girls when he was younger but that was different...
a little different.
Danny will worry about that later.
"Huh?" He grabbed one of the larger pans and then placed it back down. Danny then set to going through the kitchen to see if there were any useable hand towels stashed anywhere. "Yeah, it just takes practice. If I hadn't gone to K'un-Lun I wouldn't be able to do any of this stuff."
no subject
"Are you sure this is going to work? I feels like putting water on this much dust will simply create mud." He spoke in a questioning tone as he leaned on the sink still trying to fully catch his breath as Danny headed off. "That first closet inside the bathroom." hes already paid mind to where everything is.
no subject
"Yeah. Sides, if it turns to mud it'd be easier to scoop up." He disappeared for a second or two in order to grab as many small towels as he could. They'd be easier to wash.
"We're going to keep one of those baths full and use it to clean the rags. If we need to change the water then we'll dump it outside. The other one we'll toss on the floor to loosen things up while we work across the room. All of the dust and water will make it's way back into a bucket and outside, make sense?" It made since to Danny but giving directions and knowing what to do were very different.
no subject
"What fun." He spoke dryly, a second pan set on the floor as he pushed off the counter. "I suppose i should start the bath then." He replied as he started back the way Danny had gone. Stopping up the tub and turning it on. The water cold still since the furnace was still a not cleaned out nor did he had wood yet. Peering back out he nodded.
"Makes as much sense as anything else Im learning here."
no subject
Danny dunked a small towel into the pan of water and then tossed it on the floor. "Now we scrub." He grabbed another towel though this one he took with him as he lowered himself to his hands and knees. He placed folded and placed a rectangle section of the towel on the ground and then began to push across the floor. It was a slow process given the amount of dust, dirt and crap on the floor but the wood in his wake looked lighter, almost like it was thinking really hard about being clean.
When the rag was too dirt to continue, which didn't take long, Danny went to rinse it out in the tub of water and repeat the process.
"I really wish we had soap."
no subject
He mimicked the motion and lighter was better. It was looking better even if the whole act sent every part of Vergil into a near shutter. It was more gross than demon guts... at least he could scrub demon guts off in a hot shower.
"We need Animal fat, and ashes... the survival guide i found in the store room gives instructions on how to make soap, but its not like we have animal fat just laying around." Plus it sounded gross if he was honest, but soap was on his list. "I am from the city Danny, I'm wealthy and lived an utterly privileged life." He lamented as he scrubbed, moving for another part of the towel. "I can do so many things but I am useless when it comes to these things, but I will learn and I will get better. I just need time and I will be self sufficient." He was to stubborn and proud to keep asking for help.
no subject
It was food for thought and something that Danny would likely look into. Not that he was a big soap guy but if he wanted to get his own place then he'd have to clean it like Vergil was now.
"Me too." He spoke in between scrubbing and washing off the cloth. A few times Danny soaked the towel from the sink and then squeezed the water onto the floor to create a slug that he could mop up. "That was until I was ten. I didn't really do anything. I was lucky... I guess, kind of unlucky, but I learned. You'll learn too."
Danny believed in Vergil's stubbornness. Being stubborn was probably the best trait in this kinds of situations and it was something that him and Vergil had in common.

He, himself, was big on soap he liked being clean it helped a lot with his state of mind but for now, he was just trying hard to not be a hot mess. His blue eyes shifted up as he rang the towel out in the pot for now and got back to work scrubbing, trying to will the mess up.
"I will learn, I refuse to be useless. I freed my world from demonic rule, I can scrub a damn floor, I can keep the floorboards from warping if we get the water up before it settles. I will learn to hunt, to fight without Yamato." His eyes shifted back to Danny again. "And like you learned, you will help me learn and I will help you with all I learn as well. " His way of saying you have my back, I have yours."
no subject
"I'm going to dump this out and refill it." He nodded at the second one that he had filled. "Use that until I'm back."
Anyone who said that water wasn't heavy had never had to carry several gallons of water for a lengthy distance. Danny not only managed to carry the water but he stepped through the house without splashing the dirty liquid onto the floor.
When he returned he refilled it and set to work again.
no subject
He nodded when Danny told him to use the other pan. Soaking the towel again he set to scrubbing more. Focusing on the motion and getting the dirt out. He cried his first night there, silently sobbing into a pillow over everything that had happened, and he swore then he wouldn't ever shed tears again. Despite the burning in his arms and the emotional whiplash of having to do such work to make his own new place livable he refused to be ruled by his emotions. Working quickly to get as much done as he could.

It took several hours for the floor to be cleaned but the sun hadn't yet set and they cleaned roughly 50% of the house. All of the furniture had to be wiped down or hit with a stick until all the dust was released from the fabric but it was outside which made the task easier.
When they were finally done and had moved everything back inside, Danny grabbed his shirt and decide to use it as a sweat towel. He hadn't had a day like this since leaving K'un-Lun.
He turned to Vergil with his usual boyish grin. "How you holding up?"
