she is mine and i am hers (open; mingle)
WHO: Raleigh Becket
WHERE: Before the Weirwood tree, then in the Inn
WHEN: 14 December
OPEN TO: All
WARNINGS: TBD
Raleigh has been wanting to marry Sansa for a while but doing it right means waiting for certain things to fall into place. Today, though, there's a light snow falling and the weirwood sapling is there and still has leaves on it (he guesses it's hardy enough to last through an ice storm and the snow they've already gotten since it's a northern tree) and while it isn't going to be perfect the way it would be back in Westeros, it's good enough.
He decides, in the end, to just exchange vows the way they do in the North. It's easier that way and with witnesses, that makes him good as married as he'd be with a priest back in his world. Once the words are exchanged, he leans in and presses a soft kiss to Sansa's lips and that's it, they're married. Brief, sure, but no less meaningful.
He twirls her around in the falling snow for what passes as a first dance and then they all head to the Inn.
The food at the Inn is no more fancy than it'd normally be but Raleigh tries to pretend that venison and fresh-caught fish are exactly what he wanted for his wedding day. There's no cake, really, because that's not the kind of thing they can get easily but there's plenty of herbal tea and someone rustled up a bottle of whiskey from the last party they'd had. It's good enough. The important thing is that everyone is animated and happy and he's the happiest among them all, laughing and smiling and sharing looks with Sansa that are the most ecstatic he's ever looked in his life.
He swings her around in the Inn a few times to dance even though there's no music and it's silly but it's fun too and he doesn't let loose and have fun very often. It's a nice change.

The Inn
The food at the Inn is no more fancy than it'd normally be but Raleigh tries to pretend that venison and fresh-caught fish are exactly what he wanted for his wedding day. There's no cake, really, because that's not the kind of thing they can get easily but there's plenty of herbal tea and someone rustled up a bottle of whiskey from the last party they'd had. It's good enough. The important thing is that everyone is animated and happy and he's the happiest among them all, laughing and smiling and sharing looks with Sansa that are the most ecstatic he's ever looked in his life.

OTA
Once the vows are exchanged, Raleigh takes some time to talk to the people who have gathered there. Most of it is Sansa's family, of course, but there's a few other people he considers friends and villagers who just want to celebrate a wedding. He talks to everyone but he doesn't leave Sansa's side, arm slipped around her waist.
At the Inn
At the Inn, there's a mix of wedding-goers and normal traffic and Raleigh talks to everyone. It's been a while since he's been this animated about anything and he's happy to share what they've got (most of it is really a regular meal anyway, to be honest, they're just so happy it seems like it's catered). He pulls himself away from Sansa to talk to friends and to share some dances with people but for the most part, he's still sitting by his new wife.
It's funny - they've been mostly living like they're married for months now but something about exchanging vows puts a power behind it that wasn't there before. It's a little crazy.
Inn
And this was better.
Standing a few feet away from where Raleigh is talking to someone, she finds herself smiling softly as she watches him smile while he talks. It's easy enough to read the joy on his face and it lifts her heart to know that it matches her own. That he is as pleased with this as she is. Finally, she excuses herself with a soft murmur from her own conversation before starting towards him. She has always felt a pull towards him but it's stronger tonight knowing that she is walking towards her husband.
Re: Inn
"Hey, you," Raleigh says, sliding an arm around Sansa's waist. He knows it's a little silly to get married here when people disappear regularly but it's important to him to be married to Sansa and he thinks it's important to Sansa and her family that there's something more binding in place between them than just a profession of love so they've married. They even managed to do a wedding the way they do them in Westeros, which is more than Raleigh could ever have hoped for.
"I was wondering when you'd work yourself back around to me."
Re: Inn
The realization that she is, in fact, his wife now causes her cheeks to warm, feeling both shy and giddy as she leans into him when he slides an arm around her waist. "I didn't want to leave your side at all but I thought I should talk to my family as well. But I have no plans to leave now."
Re: Inn
He gives her a smile, warm and soft. "My brother would have loved you. He would have given me hell for settling down, sure, but he would have loved you."
Inn
Giving Raleigh a smile as she approaches, she regards him with an amused smile. "Well?" she prods. "Now that you're a married man, will you be changing your ways at all?"
Re: Inn
He pauses for a moment, a soft smile spreading across his face. "I'm glad you came, Peggy. You're one of the first friends I made in this place and if it wasn't for you, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have made it through those first days. You mean the world to me."
no subject
"Sort of a memory, but a good one," she says. "I'm sure that you would have managed, though. Isn't this day proof of that? You and Sansa have found strength in each other."
no subject
"Sure would be nice to have more days like this and less where whoever's keeping us here want to turn us against one another or destroy our houses."
no subject
"I think that you and Sansa are incredibly brave," she admits. "I can fight against a traitorous force or rebuild a house. I'm not sure that I could do what you are," she says, with respect and praise clear in her words.
no subject
"It's either bravery or stupidity," Raleigh says. "Because we're doing this even though we might disappear tomorrow and I don't know. It feels like I ought to tie myself to her as something more permanent than just boyfriend and girlfriend if we're going to be together. That way, hopefully, if one of us disappears we can remember."
He likes to think he'd remember Sansa if he got sucked back to his own world. "As to the present, though, I think it's perfect. Now I just have to find something to give you back to replace it, right?"
no subject
"I think it's brave," she says firmly, making her opinion known. "No matter what this place throws at us, you have something that you can rely on."
no subject
It's nothing predictable, anyway, and he hopes good things are headed Peggy's way.
no subject
"I can assure you that even as unpredictable as our lives are, that part is quite easy to foresee," she guarantees.
no subject
He tries to keep it light since it is a wedding, after all, but the promise is sincerely meant. He'll keep a watch out for Peggy and make sure nothing bad happens to her and that she seems to be in her right mind in case she gets the idea to get married.
no subject
Glancing over to her, Peggy gives Raleigh a smirk. "How is her father taking this?" she can't help but tease a little, knowing that he's there.
no subject
At the mention of the second question, though, Raleigh has the decency to look embarrassed and dips his head a little bit. "Well, I think he's happier now that I've married her. He wasn't really enamored of the idea of us living together without being married. It's not done where she's from."
no subject
"Well, I'm quite happy that you were able to get past that," she says. "Even though we are stuck in a strange village content to play with us, I like the idea that something like this is an attack back at it, to say that we can still hold some degree of control."
no subject
"Exactly. We still own our own lives to some extent, even if it's just to choose who we're with and how we spend our time." They still spend most of their time working toward the collective village efforts of food and shelter but there's time too for celebration and love and part of marrying Sansa is about that. So much of his life for so long has been out of his control. This is something that Raleigh controls in the entirety.
"I feel like if we don't have things like this, we'll just all break down. We need it for morale, the chance to choose what we can."

"And I'm not going to stop being positive. Maybe it's stupid to do that here when everything seems stacked against us but someone needs to try and be optimistic. I'm going to be that guy."
no subject
Giving him a fond smile, she knows that she can't do that same, but she appreciates that someone is. "Please don't stop," she insists. "I like hearing it. It reminds me that it's not always so bad."
