001. i'm tellin' y'all it's sabotage.
WHO: Jim Kirk
WHERE: (Where the post takes place)
WHEN: Backdated to June 10 and onward.
OPEN TO: All, unless otherwise marked.
WARNINGS: No warnings as of yet.
STATUS: Open.
the fountain. closed to star trek types.
The first thing Jim does when he kicks up, after finding himself suddenly (randomly) in the water, is to pull the backpack off of his shoulders and drag it up in a way that impedes his movements less. Breaking the water doesn't take him long after, and he sputters, coughing as his hair sticks wetly to his forehead. He treads water for a moment, catching his breath, and trying to ascertain if he's in any immediate danger from---wherever the hell he is.
Finding none, he heaves up the bag over the edge of the fountain he apparently just swam up out of, and grasps onto the edge to heave himself out with a groan. Despite the abrupt shift and change, he's alert, and grabs for the rucksack to drag it close again. He's already starting to look through it for what is of use, and also for anything that could be a weapon of any kind. Nothing. Wonderful. What he wouldn't give for a Kelvin pod right about now.
He finally gets his breath enough to take a look at what he's wearing, and immediately his face screws up. Red, seriously? He had enough of this from the Academy. Today is already starting off great.
"Wonderful," he mutters sarcastically, and reaches up to scrub a hand over his face.
around the village & at the inn.
The first night, if you can call it night with the sun still blaring overhead for no apparent reason other than it can in this place, he stays at the Inn. He tries to help where he's able to, feeling very much like an impostor, but only at first. It seems they are all in the same situation. He doesn't know how many people are from civilizations or time periods that are warp-capable, and so he keeps a lot of information to himself. Ship is a lot easier to go with than starship. The last thing he needs to worry about is the Prime Directive.
The next couple of days, he's acquainting himself with the village as well as he's able. Which means he's likely caught someone who could use an extra pair of hands with, well, anything.
"Hey," Jim says as he jogs up to the person with a grin. "Need a hand with that?"
He'll even go so far as to offer to share some of his water if he notices anyone out there for a while under that sun.
exploring the forest.
While there are definite drawbacks to the sun never setting, and staying stationary in the sky (nevermind the science behind that which shouldn't be possible in the least), there are also perks. Perks like exploring the forest and the far canyon for hours until he has to turn back. He's found himself forced back a time or two, but it hasn't really deterred him all that much. In the forest, it's a little easier to explore longer, as he is afforded the shade, and he makes sure to bring enough water with him as he goes along.
For the moment, he's finding out the boundaries here as well as he can, but he isn't yet pushing them. Feel free to tag along or stumble upon things.
wildcard. pick a card. any card.
Did I miss something? Hit me up, I'm easy.

He doesn't much care for the spotlight these days, it isn't like when he first got the captaincy, and it was fresh and new. Still, he keeps a gentle expression on his face.
"Sound like a pretty good person, then," he offers amicably. He's listening, and then she finally says---well, there we go. He relaxes a little more at that, and gives a smile. "Well, doctor, I've got to agree with that observation on timing."

"In your pack should be a change of clothes. It's nothing to write home about, but it's usually better than being soaked through for the day," she explains. "I can take you to the Inn to dry off and get something to eat. And in the meantime, I can try to answer questions. I haven't been here for too long yet, but a couple of months is long enough to have learned a few things."

He looks down at his pack when she starts talking, and nods. "Yeah, I'd rather get out of this as soon as possible."
Jim picks up his pack, and gestures away from the fountain, quirking a grin at her. "I guess I'm following you, then." He's quiet a moment as they start to walk, taking in their surroundings. "So what can you tell me?"

She's sure he can understand that. The Prime Directive existed for him, if memory serves. It's the temporal variant that is his fault, more or less.
"Mostly it's a place of survival, but none of the weather patterns or even the general climate matches anything I've ever seen. You'll hear mentions of the 'Observers,' the entity we think brought us here and is responsible for random 'gifts' that appear every so often, but no one's ever seen them that I've heard."

His brow furrows as she continues. "No one at all? They just bring all of us here---and what? See how we react to the situation?"
His tone is one to infer that he would like the idea of speaking to whoever these entities think they are, and what gave them the right to abduct all of these people. Not to mention for what purpose.

Which sounds ominous, she knows, but better that he know this now than be caught off guard. The least she can do for anyone, let alone a fellow Starfleet officer, is to warn them.
"Things like increased lightning strikes, animal attacks, hail storms, excessive heat. I think you missed the part where the sun didn't set for a while and rose in the west, rather than the east. Almost like the planet we're on switched its entire orbit somehow."
Not that this is unheard of or incapable of happening, given that they expect someone to be in charge somehow, but it is still alarming.

Maybe one year, close to the birthday he doesn't celebrate, he'll get something resembling a normal day. Do those come gift-wrapped?
Finally, he voices other thoughts through gritted teeth: "I'd like a word with whoever it is that thinks this sort of thing is amusing or interesting to study. Privately."
There's a sharpness in his gaze that wasn't there before, and he more coldly catalogues the area around them as they walk along.

"If you manage it, let me know? I haven't met anyone who's managed it yet."
Though she isn't about to say it's impossible. That's like issuing a challenge to a Starfleet captain. Not a good idea.
