The heat is really starting to get to Stella, and this is when she truly wishes they had some of the modern conveniences she's familiar with from home. She'd never needed air conditioning in London, it simply didn't get hot enough, but they could use it here. Even an electric fan would be something. She'd take a bucket of ice at this point if she didn't think it would melt right away.

As is, the water in the river is the only real help for dissipating the constant feeling of being overheated, and even that seems to be less and less now. Stella decides to take a trip to the waterfall in the evening — or at least what feels as if it should be evening, because she doesn't think the sun has fully gone down in days and there's not so much darkness as a sort of twilit half-light. It makes it easier to see where she's going, but the feeling of wrongness pulls at the back of her mind regardless.

There's no one else here, which is about what she expected, and the water levels in the pool might be lower but at least it's still deep enough to swim in. She puts aside the towel she'd brought with her and strips out of her clothes, intending to swim in her underwear as she had the last handful of times she'd been here—

—and then she thinks, fuck it. Stella's not ever been shy of her body, there's no one here to see her, and even if there were she doesn't know if she'd care at this point. She's sweltering. So the bra and the knickers come off too, and when she gets into the pool the water comes up to just barely above her breasts. Stella ducks under the water to cool her head, and when she resurfaces she has to close her eyes for a few seconds just to enjoy the feeling of not being completely overwhelmed by the heat.
