Beverly can't help the laugh that bubbles up at the thoughts Helen's words pull forth. She might have her own feelings about being here – chief among them the thought that her crew might be missing her right now and her duty to Starfleet – but she can see where Helen is coming from at this point. This village and everyone in it could really benefit from knowledge like this and, not for the first time in her life, Beverly quietly thanks Nana for teaching her everything she knew.
“I raised a son,” she points out, for what is surprisingly the first time since her arrival here. “I think I can handle teaching someone who wants to learn.” Really, Wesley had been a very good student and child, always eagerly grasping at things, some of which were even beyond his mother. Her smile turns a little bit sad, not too much, but enough. She misses her son so much.
In an effort to push away her sadness before it decides to ruin the moment, she focuses on the original topic. “Which one interests you most? We can start there, if you’d like.”
