Peggy's holding her breath the whole time, wondering how Tony could be so very much like Howard, in all the heartbreaking ways of it. "His father was like that," she says. "Howard never could let Steve go, nor the guilt of all the inventions that went wrong." He was able to subdue it, at times, but Peggy had seen him in those dark times when he couldn't fight it.

Poor Tony, though she also wishes that she could have been there to insist that a machine using alien technology was not bound to go well. "It's the mark of a good heart," she says. "Unfortunately, it's also easy to damage."
