"You can go get one if you want," Kira says with a shrug, but it chafes his crumbling patience to spare the time. Following Sam's arm, he stares into the trees, the shadows resolved to several shades in the time he's been outside. "I've been out there at night, you might be surprised how well you adjust."
He could grope his way blind through this canyon to Credence; he knows the feel of that beast that rode at his back, sensed it rising over the last couple of days, but there hadn't been anything to do. Nothing but what he's always done: try to stand by his friend, and let him speak his mind, even when the words started to cut.
"I don't know how he'll feel about fire," he adds, glancing at Sam before looking fully back to Sonny. "The people he grew up with, they were called Second Salemers. I don't think he'll hurt me, but--he has to know it's me."
