They might be in the middle of a sort of disaster, chaos lingering in this Obscurus's wake, but Sonny's heart hurts. It hurts thinking about how scared Credence must be, how terrible of a trauma he must have suffered to allow something like this to happen. It hurts knowing that there was nobody there to help him before, to save him from whatever happened and prevent this from happening to begin with.

That won't be the case this time. They might be too late to stop it from happening, but they'll be here to help him recover.

"Sonny Carisi. I've talked to Credence before — we're friends. I'd suspected he'd been abused, he showed all the signs. We couldn't be there for him before, but we've got to be there for him now. We have to help him."

He wishes now he'd pushed Credence to open up a little more, to face the abuse that had happened to him so he could begin to recover. "I don't understand what's really going on, what any of these 'special gifts' are, but I don't need to to know that it's not his fault, and we should help him."
