Talking to the ocean is a new one, but as much as Beverly isn't sure about the concept of "magic," she does understand special abilities. She has met too many alien species not to accept strange and wondrous abilities, especially when they have a basis in DNA and science. Most things do. So she automatically assumes that this talking to the ocean thing is one of those.
"I don't think a lot of things can hear us here," she says sadly. "And I'm not even sure that this fountain, or the river itself, is fed by an ocean."
It would have to be, in theory. Either that or to an ocean, fed by a mountain stream. But either way, she doesn't think anyone has been able to actually check. The canyon, from what she's seen so far, isn't very inviting.
