Yes, he's aware he's being a little hypocritical right now. He also hasn't told Cougar anything about the way his own eyes linger sometimes, but he's never done anything about those urges. Never. Not before the Army, not after. He'd never had much opportunity to do anything about it, even if he wanted, and he'd always been too scared to risk getting put in hospital by one of his fellow soldiers for being a fag.
It's hard to imagine Cougar being scared of anything, though, so it doesn't quite register that maybe he had those same fears.
