The queen reminds him of Ma, stern and willing to do anything to get the job done. He doesn't say that, though. Instead, he concentrates on the board, trying to remember all of the rules, and then glancing up shyly at Sam.

"You deserve first move," he says suddenly. "Because you're always helping people out the first chance you get. Like they don't even need to ask. Like this."
